How to unlock the Zoologist achievement in Minecraft - Definitive Guide

1. Find some bamboo. It spawns in Jungle Biomes, but rarely will it spawn in a single single shoot. It's most commonly found in a "Bamboo Jungle", a new variant inside a regular jungle. I was struggling to find one when I went out looking.

To make it easier, when creating a new world, click the arrow next to the spot to type in a seed. There you can pick "Jungle Temple", and for that world you'll spawn in near one. There is a good chance bamboo will be in the chests inside. If you need to grow more, they grow just like sugar cane.

2. Find pandas. They are located in jungles walking slowly on the ground. They are not hostile.
If you hold bamboo out, they will follow you like other animals.

3. If you give the pandas bamboo, they'll just eat it and there won't be any hearts. To breed, pandas need at least 8 bamboo blocks within a 5 block radius. So just grow a bunch, encase the pandas in a love room of bamboo, click on both, and a baby should pop out shortly.

Hope this helps, lemme know if you're having problems toast

How close is the bamboo to the pandas? When I did it, I dug a 5x5 hole and placed bamboo around the edge of it. Message me on Xbox and I can try to help

Idenic, can confirm the 5x5 hole method worked perfectly. At least for breeding them.

It's also worth adding that the bamboo sapling must grow to at least a single bamboo block for it to count towards the 8 blocks needed.

for some people having troubles to make the achievements pop; once you did the achievement's requirement simply open the official club of the game (where you can look at the looking for groups, activity feed etc...) achievement will eventually pop immediately (for the cat achievement it will pop if you have ONLY one cat tamed as mentioned in the other solution).

I don't think it would spawn in regularly. You might be able to get some by fishing.

I've read you can get bamboo drops by killing pandas. Things have just taken a dark turn.

What methods are you using to help the achievements pop, have done all the requirements but the achievements still won’t pop. Been at it for 12 hours now.

@Sev22suff - I started Minecraft yesterday for the first time just generally, not just this update and I found all achievements generally to be glitchy or delayed.

I personally did what @oONeonDemonOo did. I would open my guide and go to the Minecraft game hub and it would virtually always pop the achievement. I also found that if I waited literally 5-10 minutes it popped too. FYI, this is a nice trick for any game where achievements are delaying to pop toast.

Technically not pertinent to this guide, so I apologize, but whilst the site walkthrough is very helpful, it is outdated when it comes to Local Brewery. There is no blaze powder which is now needed.

As a super newbie to this game (at least since the 360 days where I didn't massively bother with completions), is there a way I can create my own world on Win 10 in creative mode with the items I need, save it as an achievement world, and then be able to re-download it and load it on Win 10 to host for my Xbox? I presume that is how any achievement world is made?

For existing survival I definitely recommend killing a panda for bamboo drops. Panda kills dont always drop bamboo, so you might want to copy your existing game to create a save point. Once you get a single bamboo drop, plant on grass then use x5 bonemeal to create larger stalk. Chop down then rinse and repeat. Once you have 64ish bamboo create a farm so you can get an endless supply for scaffolding and panda re-population.

I built a 7x7 fence so it had 5x5 free room in the middle with a gate. Planted bamboo from a jungle temple inside until I had 8 (5 in a row against a fence and 3 more near them. Used more bamboo to lure the pandas over (placed dirt outside the fence to get them in the fence as they're too big for gates). Once I had two and the 8 stalks had grown to their full green colors, they bred with no problem and the chivo popped.

only one panda had hearts on mine also, I got lucky and found a third. If it doesn't have the "Feed" when looking at it with bamboo, the panda is no good

I followed your guide but the pandas kept having baby cows and even a baby ocelot once without giving me the achievement. This is obviously a glitch but is there any sure fire way around it?

very simple to obtain, use biome finder and search for the bamboo jungle biome.
at this point fly over the area with elytra and look for an area full of bamboo. as soon as you get off, you will surely find two pandas, feed and the result will be immediately unlocked when the child is born.

Why use the jungle temple seed if there is a bamboo forest seed? You save some time not needing to grow bamboo at all.

If you feed the pandas, are they just eating it? If so, you'll need more bamboo around them

I have around 40 fully grown bamboo stalks all around caged in pandas and they will not breed. Tried for nearly 3 hours to get it to work and nothing. (Also the cat achievement won't even pop despite getting gifts).

I am doing this in an old world though in an older jungle. Pandas still spawn and you can still get bamboo through fishing. But for some reason I can't figure out why they don't want to breed, or even get one to get hearts.

For Bedrock 1.11+

Load Seed 2069597813 - you'll spawn in a huge jungle. There is a bamboo forest nearby. Find some Pandas. Feed them. Profit.

This seed still works. You can find Pandas in the jungle or the bamboo forest (I found one in both biome). You can lure the pandas around with bamboo but will find it difficult to navigate through the bamboo forest and will need to cut a lot of it down. Also I could only breed them in a 5x5 pit for some reason (described in comments on another solution).

BulletLukey has made an awesome world for this. You can join our realm (as long as it still runs) or download the world yourself.

In this world, simply go to the update 1.8.0 area, and spawn 2 panda's. Then give them both some bamboo and earn the achievement.
