How to unlock the Top of Her Class achievement in Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae - Definitive Guide

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The route I took to complete the game was doing a run on each difficulty, that way by the time I got to inferno I would be completely upgraded. Even though the health upgrades are irrelevant since you die in one hit. That said, you can start the game on hard and just do 3 play troughs instead of the 5 that I did. ***Edit: Difficulties do not stack so 5 play throughs are required for 100% completion. Thanks Conor x420a.

You are basically going to be using 3 moves for your Inferno run. Zanshin attack, Flourish and Divine Wind (it could also be called celestial judgment, it's the attack that you hold B tap RB twice then release B, it damages a lot of enemies at once and it yields a lot of hits, the in game descriptions are a little confusing), in addition you will need to block against a certain boss. Of course you can combo in whatever you like, but do it with caution cause the enemies will hit you, quickly.

For all basic enemy waves the main strategy is to run around the map and every couple of seconds when you know your clear of enemy attacks quickly turn towards the mob and perform a divine wind move. Which I did by holding B quickly tapping RB twice and finally releasing B. Right after the attack lands you should have some enemies glowing red, hit RT and finish them off. Rinse and repeat until the wave is done. In inferno the enemies are extremely weak so just one divine wind should weaken them, especially once you get your combo going. However in some cases I unleashed several divine winds just to be sure and ended up wiping out a whole lot of enemies at once. One very important tip for basic enemies is that if the camera isn't facing them, they are a lot less aggressive. Be careful though cause they will still lung towards you from off screen and kill your ass.

For the basic waves there are two waves where you will not be doing the divine wind, instead you will be using flourish. Flourish is a counter attack that is performed by pressing B right before the enemies attack lands. This move is insanely useful in certain situations, but it isn't exactly easy to use. The window of time you have to perform it is unbelievably small. It's something you will need to practice over and over. When you get the hang of it and start performing the move regularly it's extremely satisfying.

Back to the two remaining basic waves. The enemies in these waves will be knights with big straight swords. Their attack patterns are a bit different that the rest of the enemies and they block divine wind. I know, sucks. What you gotta do is sit and wait till they attack, preferably with the attack that they lung towards you and swing the sword head down. That attack is a lot easier to flourish than the other attack where they zig zag across the map. One wave you will need to take on 2 at a time and the other 3 at a time. It's best to use the camera and try and keep at least one off the screen to keep the knights chances of attacking down. At first it seems daunting especially the wave with 3 but just practice flourish, keep them off screen and you'll get it, luck has a bit to do with it. I've added a video here to show you how I did it. I had a couple of fails then success!

Here is an alternate strategy courtesy of Ratpoizen:

For the big enemies with swords (stage 4 wave 4 I think) I got fed up of trying to flourish them so I found another tactic which may help those who can't flourish. (You can beat the whole game with hardly any flourishing). What I did was go around the outside then use Celestial Judgement - but away from the enemies. Then keep tapping B to deal a follow up attack which instantly makes them bleed. Then press RT to kill them instantly. Occasionally they can kill you while it takes a second do the follow up attack but I found it easier.

Now for the bosses in the order that they appear...

Kaina: Very easy, just run around the map avoiding those 4 spikes from the ground he spams. Then divine wind him, if you like add in a quick combo followed by Zanshin whens he's glowing red. He'll be dead in no time.

Kaiser: You've already faced him a few times so you know what his attacks are. Run around avoiding his attacks and quickly divine wind him when he finishes. Pretty easy.

Susuka: This was the toughest part of the game for me mainly because you have string together flourishes against some VERY fast attacks. Try and keep your distance, but not too far. When she dashes at you immediately run away from her before you hit B, that was the key in me beating her. I was getting wrecked just standing and waiting for the dash, even with some distance. The overhead attack is a little easier to flourish. After 2 flourishes she'll be ready for a Zanshin. Here's a video, some fails, forward to about a minute left to see the victory round:

Here is an alternate strategy courtesy of Ratpoizen:

For Suzuka I used flourish on her first sword slam move where she charges up and goes into the air before hitting you with the sword and rolled out the way for her second & third attacks. I found this very easy to flourish. And when she dashes/charges at you simply press A to jump and she will never hit you.

Magatsu Kaina: Same strategy as before but when he gets to low health he starts performing this over head slam that I couldn't consistently block. What I did to avoid this is when he got low health I started going around in a big circle at first and when I started facing his back I started making the circles smaller until I was circling him while being behind him eventually he performs the oh too easy to avoid ground spikes which in turn gives you the chance to divine wind him. Just be sure to avoid the spikes while staying behind him. Always perform your attack towards his back. If you end up in front of him he will do the over head slam attack.

Here is an alternate strategy courtesy of Ratpoizen:

For Magatsu Kaina I found a real cheap way to avoid his "jumping on your head" attacks when his health gets low. Simply press RB to switch off the boss camera and just run in the opposite direction. His attacks won't be able to reach you.

Magatsu Susuka: This time around she does a lot more of the over head slam attack but does 3 consecutively. I flourished the first one and blocked the other 2. When she gets to low health and runs at you evade until she swings her sword twice then stop and wait for the over head slam. Again you need to block twice after the initial flourish. Here's a vid of my round:

Magatsu Hino Tsurugi: Very easy if you know what to do. The two attacks that gave me issues was when she swings her giant sword sideways and over head. I could never get the flourish down. So what I did was simply jump over the sideways attack. Unfortunately for you reader, I never got the over head attack on my inferno run so I have no strategy for avoiding that. The good news is that she doesn't always perform it. So since your combo will be nice and high you'll most likely finish her off quick, before she has a chance to perform it. Here's my vid:

Hope this little walk through proves useful to you all. I am by no means a master at this game so perhaps there are more efficient ways of obtaining this achievement, if you have any good tips or see any errors please feel free to share.

Great guide! I just finished this today and played some parts a totally different way because I sucked at flourish. As you say for normal enemies just run around the perimeter keeping the enemies off screen then use Celestial Judgment (not Divine Wind?).

For Suzuka I used flourish on her first sword slam move where she charges up and goes into the air before hitting you with the sword and rolled out the way for her second & third attacks. Sorry for the nooby comments lol, but just trying help anyone who cant flourish very well.

Achievements do not stack so you cannot beat hard and get the achievements for easy and normal, 5 playthroughs are required

I feel like I'm the only one who can't flourish vs Suzuka at all lol. I ended up blocking the overhead slash, using counter on the 3rd. I would dodge in and use RB+Y up to 3 times, careful to dodge out if my controller vibrated to indicate she countered. Took a long time, but was easier for me than trying to learn the flourish.

What I did to help me defeat sazuka, is to do at least one flourish and then start dodging every attack and once dodged press RB+Y three times. The flourish will help when she is in bleeding state, and will do more damage once you use zanshin.

Considering on getting the Windows 10 version and came across this guide. Just want to say that this should be the standard of all solutions -- definitely set the bar high! smile

Also, I'm sure you're already aware, but be mindful that your Xbox clips might expire -- depending how you saved them.
