Coming in Hot!

Coming in Hot!

As a fielder, catch a 110mph or harder hit baseball for an out. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

28.8%

How to unlock the Coming in Hot! achievement in MLB The Show 22 - Definitive Guide

This will likely be your last achievement for your completion since it's heavely RNG and must be done under a certain scenario since a +110mph catch it's pretty uncommon. I will try to describe the method I used as clear as possible. This could take hours potentially, anyways Series X version it's pretty fast for restarting the match.

I did three 110mph catches and the achievement didn't unlock, after a 114mph catch popped perfectly

Setup:

1. Go to "Create" on main menu located on the top right corner of the screen (left icon next to options). Here you want to edit an MLB team (it doesn't matter which one, I used San Francisco Giants)

Set starting Pitcher with Max Velocity under his 4 Seam FB
Set his attributes maxed out for Stamina, Clutch, Velocity and Control
Also Max out the Pitcher and Baseman players attributes for max Speed, Reaction, and Fielding Ability.

Save the roster.

2. On main menu, go to sliders, here use this setup.

Maxed Sliders:
Human Pitcher Control
Human Pitcher Consistency
CPU Contact
CPU Power
CPU TIming
CPU Foul Frequency
CPU Solid Hits

Minimum Sliders:
Fielding Errors Infield
Fielding Errors Outfield
Wind

Set the pitching difficulty to Legend on settings.

3. Go to Exhibition, set a match with your team as home (right side on screen) vs NL All Star as visitor.
You will always start as Pitcher, aim to the bottom middle box in the grid with a Fast Ball. The ideal scenario it's that the AI hit the ball directly to your left (3rd base) or right (1st base) defense to get the achievement as soon as your baseman catches the ball, like I said a +110 mph it's rare. most of shots will be around 100 and 109mph and they will end on hits or home runs so you will likely reset the match a ton.

Another method described by MrPrather seems to be more consistent if you are having problems on Exhibition.

Step 1. Increase all of these max to right:
(CPU: Contact, Power, Timing, Solid Hits) (Fielder: Run Speed, Reaction, Arm Strength
Infield, Arm Strength Outfield) (Human Pitcher Control, Pitcher Consistency)
Step 2. Decrease all of these max to left:
(Fielding Errors: Outfield & Infield) (Throwing Errors Infield & Outfield)
Step 3. Change pitching difficulty to Legend

Step 4. Start Retro Mode (Boomers vs Boomers) (Coors Field aka Rockies)

Step 5. Press Start, go to "Manager" on the far left. Click Defensive Position, Change Shift Duration to "Always" Make sure "All Outfield is selected" and then change depth from "Deep" to "Shallow" (This was a big one for me that helped)

Step 6. Hold the Down button on the dpad and press A while pitching for fast ball

Rinse and repeat, If you get three outs press start and quick manage then press "Y" to simulate half an inning. This took me until about the 4th inning

To add to others posts and to make it simple step 5 really made this much easier. All luck based, but with enough try you will get it!!!

Like the last few commenters, I'm getting smashed 35-5 in retro with the only line drive fly balls being caught by outfielders. I've played 9 games like this on hall of fame with the sliders. I'll keep playing around and hopefully get this one soon.

Update:
Retro mode - Boomers vs. Boomers - Coors Field - Fastballs down the middle - Quick manage fast forward past batting - Hall of Fame Pitching Difficulty
Sliders:
Human Pitcher sliders all the way to the right (Keep your strong arm)
CPU Timing all the way to the right
CPU Solid Hits all the way to the right
Fielding errors infield all the way to the left
Fielder run speed all the way to the right
Fielder reactive all the way to the right

With this method, I saw a lot more line drives going through the holes and not over the entire infield. That's why I didn't mess with cpu contact or power because they just smash homers. Got this in about 5 minutes with these settings but I spent about 3 hours playing around with different methods. Thank you to all the above commenters and good luck!

I would suggest increasing the Fielder Reaction and Fielder Speed sliders as well and just spam A to throw your 99mph fastball down the middle. You really can't control where the hits go anyway and you'll get catchable line drives to the outfield as well. I missed a diving catch on a 110mph ball to the outfield by inches before increasing these sliders. I might have had the achievement a half hour earlier if I'd increased them sooner.

I also went in and edited the first 5 or so batters of the AL All-Stars to be 99 power vs R and L for a little bit higher chance of getting 110mph contact and played against them and would just restart after the first half of the lineup if I didn't get it.

How do you edit the other teams in the league? Its only letting me edit players on the cubs which is the team I picked at the start of the game.

This achievement fucking sucks. You have to catch a 110+ ball for an out. I got lucky and caught a perfect perfect 111 liner for a out. Horrible achievement, honestly should be worth more gamerscore.

If anyone is having trouble with this, do as listed above with the sliders and everything
Then play as Nolan Ryan from the Expansion Era Boomers against the Expansion Level Boomers on Legend but play in Retro Mode. Idk why but I tried for a couple hours to do this in regular exhibition with no luck but got it in like 5 mins in Retro Mode. Also play at Coors Field in Colorado, I've seen some people mention that helps

I agree with the boomers v boomers in retro mode method, I had it done in about 10 mins compared to the last 2ish hours of trying just using exhibition mode. Just remember to do a fastball (Down + A)

Teams are irrelevant. 100% back using retro mode. Boomers vs Boomers would be easy to not edit any players but if you’re editing your players, you can obviously use any team

For what it's worth, I also tried retro mode, tried all kinds of variations with sliders, teams, etc. I did eventually get it but all said it took about 2 hours. PITA achievement

Retro mode is 100% the way to do this. I played as Boomers with Nolan Ryan against Mid Century with no sliders. Used down + A for fastballs and got it in roughly 10 minutes. You can use quick manage to skip your at bats and go back to pitching. Great stuff.

100% Use Retro Mode! got it in 10 minutes switching to retro, Its annoying you cant see any of the stats from previous swings but kind of makes it more fun not knowing at the same time!

Another vote for retro mode. I spent hours yesterday, carpal tunnel setting in from throwing fast balls...nothing. Retro mode, less than 10 minutes.

Not sure how you are all getting so lucky in retro mode... I've been trying for over an hour and just played a game losing 3-71 Boomers v Boomers on Legend with above sliders and throwing fastballs. Maybe gotten a line drive going fast enough 2 times but fielders nowhere near it.

I finally got it on Retro. I used the above solution and edits on the pitcher (Using Freid of the Braves) and then played against the Boomers. Probably just lucky but I got it within 3 minutes of starting that way.

Im having no luck with this. Every Pitch I throw is a home run or an in the gap double. Almost never is it something that can even be caught. I am on retro. should I be using the d pad for down and A or Stick down and A.

I can confirm that I can beat everyone here in an online exhibition match while using the worst team in the game. As for the achievement, I was able to obtain it while using the Mets in a regular offline exhibition match. This is after I created a third baseman in RTTS and got them to the MLB level, and after playing thirty games in online matches set at the highest difficulty.

when you get 3 out, just restart the game and don't forget down+a for fast ball

Enlunas Sliders plus the retro mode make this a breeze. You may give up a bazillion runs but you're bound to get a line out to one of your infielders

Update: I saw on PSN Profiles about using Rob Nenn (Beasts pitcher) against the AL All Stars on Retro and I got this in my first inning. Either just got lucky after 1+ hour using the other method, or it's more reliable. Sliders and Coors Field very helpful though, thanks all!

I'm missing something here. Even with those sliders and retro set up, I can never pitch more than 102 MPH...I've caught the ball 10+ times at that's speed for over an hour...and nothing. Some are hard line drive, some floaty hits, doesn't matter. Ugh...

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I did everything else above but left the CPU Power slider alone, thinking it might limit the amount of homeruns and keep the CPU's hits to mostly line drives. They still hit a bunch of homeruns, but I did get the achievement in the first inning using everything else above. It's a frustrating one, but eventually someone will hit a line drive right to where one of your infielders is standing.

Note that you have to hold the down button on the D-Pad throughout the pitch to throw 100+ MPH. Just tapping down+A throws slower.

I ended up just getting this in the normal course of things while playing online rated games. Perfect line drive out to left field. If retro mode just won't work for you, eventually you'll probably get it in the course of actually just playing the game.

I'm in the 7th inning down 70 runs and it still won't unlock for me. Did you guys change any other sliders? Not sure I'm unlucky or doing something wrong. Most of the CPU hits are HRs or extra base hits that hit the outfield wall. My fielders can't get anywhere near it. When you guys got the achievement, did you get the catch in the outfield or infield?

I'll add my 2 cents since it seems like I had one of the worst experiences on this one. Probably spent around 10-12 hours trying everything on this thread before I just finally got it to pop. In the end I got it with a team created like the original solution laid out where I jacked all the stats for my pitcher/infielders and did all the sliders as suggested. I played in Retro mode on Coors Field in Colorado against the NL All-Stars and it was actually a ball caught by an outfielder that triggered it. I hadn't increased outfielder stats but would recommend that for others struggling. I knew I was on the right track when the other team was crushing home runs and I was down 69-3 in the 4th inning.

One thing that wasn't mentioned, is that PSN Profiles has another tidbit that makes is SUPER SIMPLE. And that is setting the shifts correctly.

Once in the game, immediately pause, select "Manager" and shift the following ways (with shift duration set to Always):

Defensive Position: 1B > Depth: Normal > Shift: Shift Right
Defensive Position: 2B > Depth: Normal > Shift: Shift Left
Defensive Position: 3B > Depth: Normal > Shift: Shift Left
Defensive Position: LF > Depth: Normal > Shift: Shift Left
Defensive Position: RF > Depth: Normal > Shift: Shift Right

Restart the game if you don't earn the trophy after recording 3 outs

After spending a frustrating evening trying all these other methods. I used the PSN Profiles Method, did the shifts, and on the first batter, a hit to my left fielder, game me my final achievement.

This can be done in Retro mode. For this one you want the pitching difficulty to be on LEGEND (which is the hardest difficulty). Select both teams as the Boomers. When you are pitching you'll want to press and hold down on the analog-left.png when you pitch. The CPU will hit almost every pitch. You'll want one of your infielders to catch a ball and hope it is over 110 MPH. He should catch the ball automaticlly. This is somewhat random and took me 3 games before I got it. Once your infielder catches the ball and it recorded 100MPH the achievement will unlock.
