How to unlock the Maddux achievement in MLB The Show 24 - Definitive Guide

Just a helpful tip for an easier time: the intentional walk is your friend. You can put runners on base without throwing any pitches, then try for double plays.

I was at 55 pitches through 5 innings on my attempt, so I started intentionally walking two batters to start each inning (cn_LB + cn_B)

I completed the final four innings in 21 pitches.

Could also be handy to turn off injuries in settings, my guy got injured more than halfway through this

I finished with only 83 pitches. Won the game 17-0, used the dodgers and only used Ohtani. And it didn’t unlock

I did sim the game when we were batting though, dunno if that voids the achievement

EDIT: just did it without simming when I was batting and it unlocked straight as we won

I did this with 93 pitches, no simming and it didn’t unlock.

FYI, I attempted this with 2 controllers in exhibition and it didn't unlock this one or the Save Some for Tomorrow achievements

tip: use player lock on your starting pitcher so that you can skip your team batting. The game will take half as much time this way.

I did this while also going for the
MLB The Show 24Save Some for TomorrowThe Save Some for Tomorrow achievement in MLB The Show 24 worth 157 pointsWin a game by 24 or more runs. (Excludes simulated gameplay.)

One thing to note is this achievement does NOT require you to throw a Shutout, No Hitter, or Perfect game, so giving up a few hits or runs is okay.

TLDR & only going for Maddux:
Change settings to Amateur and Gameplay Style of Casual, and use my Download and use my Slider setting from the Vault (Save Some for Maddux by Psyched Chicken). Play Exhibition Classic as any MLB team as the Home team. Play against a Bad team, Athletics or Minor league team. Pick any stadium. When pitching, average 11 or less pitches an inning. Cycle through pitch types, throwing around the edge of the strike zone, going just outside if they're fouling them off.

To do this I did a couple of things within the settings to make it easier on myself. In Settings I changed my Settings Preset to Casual. Then going into Gameplay Settings If not already set to this I changed my Gameplay Style to Casual. Then Hitting and Pitching difficulty to Amateur, 2 left from Rookie
Within this page go to Control settings (Hit cn_RB). The Settings Preset should have made this setting to the most basic options, for newer players this may be the best settings, though I still would prefer my Hitting Interface to be at least directional. For the more Seasoned players, change it to whatever you prefer. I kept the basic controls except for the Hitting Interface, which I changed to Zone, and with the Sliders, that I'll talk about next, the Zone was massive and you barely even needed to move it, if at all.

For the Sliders I mentioned, I uploaded a Slider Setting to the Vault. Titled "Save Some for Maddux" Type: Arcade, Favor: Balanced by Psyched Chicken. I mainly just changed CPU and Human batting sliders. If you need any more help feel free to change the pitching sliders as well.

Pregame - I chose Exhibition Classic. I recommend playing as the home team as if you are leading in the 9th you have one less half inning you have to play. You can probably choose any team you like, I used the Mariners, but to make the Save Some for Tomorrow achievement easier, I recommend the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Atlanta Braves as they have a great hitting team. For the CPU team, I chose to go against the Birmingham Barons, go to the Chicago White Sox, Hit cn_LB. For the stadium I went to the Classic Stadiums and used Polo Grounds, easy homeruns down the lines or easy triples in Center Field or Deep Left and Right fields. However, you may get a lot of off the wall singles too. Then for your pitcher pick any starter, the higher overall the better.

Once in game, hit start right away and go to settings to confirm all these changes took affect.

For the Maddux Achievement:
You need to average 11 or less pitches an inning. With these settings & sliders just pitch the ball in the strike zone, just avoid throwing it down the middle all the time. And cycle the types of pitches you throw. I tried to let them hit the ball as most should be flyouts and groundballs and will usually result in quick outs and limiting your pitch count. If they are fouling it off a couple times, through something just outside the strike zone. They swung and missed almost every time. I threw 1 Ball the entire game. As long as you have the lead in the top of the 9th and have less than 90 pitches you should easily get this, and you won't have to bat in the bottom of the 9th.

For Save Some for Tomorrow Achievement:
You just need to make sure you time your swings right and you should hit the ball every time. I liked Zone as you have a little more control where on the ball you hit it. I only had to use the Normal Swing cn_A. Make smart baserunning decisions and you should keep racking up the hits and scores, especially if you use my Slider settings, and use Polo Grounds. I got 27 runs just for some cushion and then I just started bunting to get through my at bats quicker.

For this, I gave myself the best possible advantage and played the Boomers vs a bad minor league team. The Boomers are an All Star team that has Nolan Ryan as their starting pitcher. He's quite good at pitching and will out pitch most players on your opposing team. The biggest thing to try to limit is foul balls. I started out trying different things but settled on the fast ball against the beginner AI. Strikeouts are nice but really getting them to pop fly and get themselves out is better since that's less pitches. I tried to average 10 pitches an inning. While you are going for this, you can try winning by 24 or more runs to get "Save Some for Tomorrow".
