How to unlock the Swan Dive Defense achievement in MLB The Show 24 - Definitive Guide

After trying in exhibition for a few hours hoping for the cpu to hit a pop up, while also trying to get the timing of diving down. I decided to try Road to the Show as an outfielder. Upon the 3rd game in AA I had a queue for an impact play where you have a chance to get a dive with a cinematic. To dive for the play hit A at the right time when prompted it while go in and out of the a button. If you don’t get it first try like me you may have to wait until triple A for a chance again for it. Good luck!

@xxboysetfirexx just as random as trying to get the cpu to hit a fly ball that is catchable. I provided a means for people to find a way i never said it was 100%. It is a valid option and most people on this thread have recommended RTTS.

You can player lock in exhibition, I was able to get it that way as a first baseman. Make sure the slowmo setting is turned on, you will auto dive and just need to hit "a" at the right time.
It took me a few games to get it.
Games go really fast player locked, if you dont get it on the recap screen just go to restart game.

Yall both found a way to be absolutely no help in getting this achievement how do you turn slow motion on and how do you make it to where pressing A does a dive

Settings > Gameplay > General > RT to Misc > Player Lock ShowTime Opportunities set to On, Baserunning Opportunities to None, Fielding Opportunities to Impact.

It won't always be pressing A to dive. It'll be a minigame that you'll enter in slow motion when the ball is hit. You'll know because it's completely different from normal plays. You have to follow the buttons it tells you to hit or put the cursor in the target circle, whatever it's showing you to do.

I made a RTTS CF after being frustrated in regular games as well. Took about 10-12 games before I got a Showtime Opportunity and it popped as soon as I completed it. You can also be trying to do regular dives as well on normal defensive plays until one comes up and you might get it sooner. I recommend setting Dive/Jump to Two Button in Settings > Control > RT to Defense so your player doesn't try to jump instead of dive with RT.

Yeah I keep missing the regular dive it’s so hard to time and a few times it’s done like sliding catches which don’t count

Came to echo a bunch of the prior points. Erod550 nails it. Your option is to play Locked player either IF, 3rd base is probs better considering if there is a runner on 1st, the impact option will have you cover almost every play with the runner on, or an outfielder, in theory CF gives you the most options. Exhibition match, locked player with the impact settings on, I would have roughly 3 plays of fielding that were impact worthy and 3 AB's which i bunted to get through, but if you have misc achievements for hitting you can try here. Restarting those games, you can do a game in roughly a minute or two and in theory gives you the best and quickest change to get the minigame.

How I finally got it, is by changing the controls on diving to two buttons. It was a game changer. After hours of trying to play straight up I got it in 30 min. I caught a foul ball with the 3B, backed off it, then timed it and pressed the now 1 dive button and caught it. I was team changing to just pitch Fast Balls down the middle, letting the CPU hitting mostly fly balls, maxing outs by manually fielding and just letting them go, and finally got it.

Well, I tried practice, and it didn't work. Tried locking players, nope. Got one qte, hit A, and the ball bounced out of my glove. Did regular exhibition game throwing fb down the middle for pop ups, got one to 3rd, was lining up for my dive, and computer controlled outfielder ran in, dove, and made the catch. Achv popped. I saved the clip...

I got it playing RTTS in CF, after about 20 games or so. The first opportunity came up in the 5th or so game but it bounced off my player's glove. I got it on my 2nd try.

Finally got it to pop playing cf in road to the show it was a line drive up the middle that the second baseman dove for and caught which worked for me

I just moved out of the catch area for routine fly balls and dove in (RT) at the last second. Conquest mode.

I got this rather quickly in Road to the Show. I made a fielding rated Centerfielder and elected to take part in the combine. After the initial day, you have to play multiple games while player locked. I actually got the animation for the dive twice in one game, so there is a definitely a randomness to it, but it seemed to come quickly in this mode. The animation and button press for the dive was the same for both of the dives, just a press of the A button, nothing like the complex button presses for outfield assists. I had previously played dozens of exhibition games as a player locked infielder and outfielder to no avail. The Road to the Show took five minutes and didn't require me to time a dive with RT.

Ater like 14 hours trying everything... I finally got a Press A action to appear for 3rd baseman Road to the Show. I pressed A perfectly, my guy dove, got up and threw the runner out a first. No achievement. So, I would not waste time in road to the show. All videos show an outfielder from a normal game dive to make the catch. I went into the diamond dynasty and it had a challenge to get 3 outs to win the game. The first batter hits a ball to my center fielder. As I chase it down, I decide to dive and he catches it! I instantly uninstalled the game. Good luck. What a terrible achievement with the mechanics that are awful.

RTTS worked really well. I got the achievement in the first combine game as an outfielder.

word to the wise: do not skip the combine. these games are the ones that give you the 'showtime event' where you wait for A to pulse to the center, which gives you that perfect diving catch. worked for me in my second combine game

Did exactly what I am 4orty2wo said combine second game using a CF got a showtime event and you just press a once you see the circle go green.

No matter what I do I can’t get showtime events to even pop. There turned on in the settings but I never get them. diving in this game is trash so idk what to do to get this achievment.

16 hours played. The bulk of that time being replaying the combine over and over. I have only gotten the QuickTime event ONCE and hit the button at the wrong time. Remember a few years ago when diving catches were super easy?

Yes @anthonyd46 it has been probably 10 hours alone of just trying to get this achievement. It absolutely will not give me an event. I've deleted my entire save and started over, I've played game 2 and turned my game off at the end when it doesn't happen and repeated, I've played thru the draft, I've played an exhibition game just playing on the defense and changing teams over and over, and I've tried just diving at any random hit. The QuickTime event has happened once in now 19 hours. Trying to just dive and catch the ball I either run up and stand still awkwardly, dive in a random direction and miss, miss because my timing is apparently off this year, run up and auto catch it, or the camera randomly changes direction. I just don't get it. I've been playing these games for years and dive catches have always been really easy. I feel like the game is messing with me.

Finally got it when 2nd base dove for a catch meant for me at CF. This was the worst.

Honestly I think your best bet with this one is not even to mess around with trying to get the quicktime event in RTTS. Just fire up an exhibition game, and when you inevitably induce a fly ball, take control of your outfielder, take a circuitous route to the ball's landing spot and then dive for it. The timing will probably take you a few tries and you'll give up your share of triples and inside the park home runs, but it's not too difficult.

Just got it playing an exhibition game Toronto vs Durham. I used the catcher to dive and get a foul ball. Quite easy and no Quicktime event to hope for, just stay out of the ball-landing marker and prell LB when it's going to hit the ground.

@Anxious Guy
I finally got it by playing exhibition, I dove and missed it with my 2B, but my CF caught it and it gave me it lol this achievement was annoying, the diving is just hilariously bad. The showtime event in RTTS never happened for me playing CF either. I tried until I got the one for the 24 games.

Tried the combine a few times, no luck. So decided to play exhibition with the Boomers as my team and locked on to only play as Ken Griffey Jr. Never got the A button prompt but instead used RT and pushing the thumbstick in the direction of the ball. Got it after a couple games.

I finally unlocked the achievement during the first Combine game but not as QuickTime event, just dived with RT at right time. Thumb up for this guide.

While the case could certainly be made luck is involved, I hadn't even tried RTTS until reading this solution. In the interest of full disclosure, I had a botched dive playing my second game in centrefield, and a QTE event in my third. The game is complete thanks to this guide. +1 from me.

Like Beastguy3090 said I hit a pop up ran away so the pitcher covered and hit the dive button as he was catching it.

The cinematic in road to the show mode to get the diving catch aka swan dive defense achievement popped up for me finally after playing around 50 games in this mode but these games are fairly quick and simple. Just be patient with a CF and once that cinematic comes up this achievement is very easy. @Erod550 's comments on the set up skipping baserunning in RTTS mode made things go quicker too and I suppose you could bunt all your at bats if this is your last achievement to save time and just focus on fielding opportunities.

When I was in AA in RTTS I got the "A" prompt but I botched it so I did not successfully do it. When I was doing the Leon Day in the Negro Leagues there was a scenario, but the first time I botched it and the second I completed it. No unlocked achievement though so I guess I will have to keep hoping it comes up again in RTTS(I am in AAA currently and it has not appeared.) Or get it randomly in another mode.

Again, the achievement is just as random, as diving for a fly ball and trying to time it right. This solution is one option, it may work but not guaranteed like I said in the guide. Second a couple of people also stated that certain options should be present to try and make it easier to cheese. Again not guaranteed. This option is something I found after hours of diving for the occasional fly ball the AI hits. There are multiple ways to get this, one being this option. Sorry it didnt work for you! Maybe try harder!

I picked a speedy CF build and got the prompt on the second game of my AA career. I'd say stick to an OF player, and just play till it pops up.

This showtime event might as well been a unicorn because I never encountered it and fielded close to 1000 plays. It took me close to 12 hours to get this achievement. I played CF in RTTS and never once got a prompt play or QTE whatever is supposed to happen. Did the whole combine with the 4 games 5 times, once as a female. Played a whole season in center with player lock set to field every play. I deleted all of my files and restarted. I did custom practices forever trying to get the timing right. Always off the glove or flat out miss or the fielder would slide on his knees like a coward.

I managed to catch it manually after hundreds of failed attempts. Hundreds of in the park homers against me. I didn't do anything differently. Fly ball with more than enough time to catch it. Zig Zagged the fielder to catch it like I had been doing and finally snagged it.

Other than hope for an event in RTTS, how is a diving catch supposed to work? Once the outfielder gets in range and locks onto the ball you can't do anything, and if you try to dive before getting locked in it's way too early.

This unlocked for me while playing an exhibition game. The CPU hit a line drive to first and the first baseman dove automatically and caught it, I didn't do anything.

I would recommend just saving this for last as it may unlock for you the same way, don't try and force it.

After playing about 30 games as CF and missing 1 QTE, so excited it finally came up, panicked and missed.

Anyways, started new RTTS with LF, changed name (not sure if this matters), I was getting a QTE every 1st or 2nd game of the combine / prospect showcase (Tested after I got achievement).

The first guide is great if you get lucky, but in my experience the method I will show below worked better especially with the slow loading times, stupid text cutscenes, etc.

Exhibition Game > make sure you are Home Team (so you bat 2nd each inning) > Select Boomers > Player Lock (hit RT) on Ken Griffey Jr > Move Ken Griffey Jr to 9th in batting order (by doing this you are ensuring that a majority of the time the visiting team batting first will have 2-3 innings of at bats before you come up to bat, leading to more opportunities to dive catch).

In my experience, 80% of the time the game would start with me in the field ready to make a play.

If you come up to bat first, Confirm Restart. It is faster than even bunting and getting out.

Settings - you can leave Showtime on if you want, doesn't matter it seems to never trigger. Put fielding opportunities on All, not Impact. Impact forces the game to promote their little throwing minigame, you will get a bunch of ground balls instead of fly balls. The "All" setting gives mostly routine fly balls.

Catching the ball - this game is awful, it will lock you into a catch no matter what difficulty or settings you have, it will make you slide and catch but not dive, it will make you jump instead of dive even when hitting RT, just keep trying. As soon as you see its a fly ball, start running towards the circle, keep circling around it and follow the shadow on the ground of the ball coming to time your dive into the circle.

I had a few times where I trapped the ball, inches away from the dive catch - you will eventually get it.

Keep in mind Ken Griffey is is left handed, so when he dives it will be with his right hand forward, so if you are coming straight at the ball dive with your body a little to the left of where the ball is.

After every failed attempt, just Confirm Restart, it is always faster and most of the times gives you another opportunity right away.
