How to unlock the Deft-hand Rod achievement in Monster Hunter Rise - Definitive Guide

For the achievement you need to catch all the fish below yourself using your rod. Not obtained through Argosy or other means.

To fish you simply need to go to a fishing spot and press cn_B. Aim near the fish you want to catch and throw the line. When the bob disappears under the surface, simply hold cn_B until the fish is caught.

There are plenty of fishing spots and different fish to the ones I have listed can appear where I have not listed them. The list below simply let's you catch the required fish in the least number of visits.

If you can't find the fishing spot, use your detailed map and you can locate exactly where it is from the fish symbol. Area 1 in lava caverns I had to locate this way. Its just to the left of the narrow opening that you can take to leave the starting tent area.

There are some fish that can only be caught in high rank. A quick tip, as soon as I unlocked high rank I was gunning for this achievement, but there was no quest or expedition for high rank Lava Caverns, so what I did was go into an event quest that was 6* in the locale. You can do this even if you're only HR4.

Finally it might be worth taking a dung bomb with you in case you're fishing and a large monster shows.

The fish are located:-

Just wanted to add another spot for the platinumfish as I could not locate it at your location. Flooded forest area 5 in high rank had it for me.

Do you know if there is a way to check the missing fishes ? It seems not mentioned in the compendium...

I couldn't find a way when I was playing. Luckily there aren't too many and they aren't that rare.

A useful note is that unlike previous games, fishes aren't truly random in this one. Eg: The spot 1 in the lava caverns always has exactly one flamefin, no more and no less. If you need the great flamefin, keep catching the normal one and each time will spawn a new one in, eventually giving you the big one.

Same works for the other fish that have multiple sizes

Another note worth making is that some fish take up each other's spawn. So I was only getting platinum fish in area 6 of the ruins and I caught a couple of them and started trying to catch the other fish to no avail. I caught another platinumfish and a goldenfish finally spawned. And apparently the crimsonfish also is in this spawn slot. Seems like maybe the account item fish take up that same slot.

I found a (somewhat) solution to help. Some fish are actually found in your item box as materials. I'll put down the order of what icon they look like according to the original post above. But before I do, I wanted to make a few quick notes:

Some fish are scattered in your item box, even when sorted. They're not all next to each other. For example, I found my goldenfry fish next to my valuable eggs on my last page of my item box.

MOST of these fish are in your item box, NOT ALL! They're actually account items and cannot be found. I do not know if you can find your account items anywhere, but if there is, I am unaware of it. So if you have all of the fish from your item box, you most likely are missing one of the account ones.

Goldenfry - A yellow fish icon, most likely in one of your last item box page

Crimsonfish - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

Goldenfish - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

Platinumfish (High Rank only) - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

Combustuna - A gray fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Big Combustuna - A gray fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Gastronoma Tuna - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

Great Gastronoma Tuna (High Rank only) - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

Brocadefish - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

King Brocadefish - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

Supreme Brocadefish (High Rank only) - An account item, NOT IN YOUR ITEM BOX

Flamefin - a gray fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Great Flamefin - a gray fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Popfish - a gray fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Scatterfish - a gray fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Sushifish - an orange fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Whetfish - a yellow fish icon, most likely in your first item box page

Great Whetfish - a yellow fish with a star icon, most likely in your first item box page

Speartuna (High Rank only) - a blue fish icon, most likely in your second item box page

Hope this helps!
