The easiest way to do this is by capturing the Carrier Ant in the Wildspire Waste area. The reason for being easy this way is that you will often catch more then 4 ants at once when your throwing the net on their street. I did it with my first throw and got the giant AND the small crown with this one.
You will always find 4 streets near the southwest camp in the sector 1 and 2.

this is how i got it as well but by accident i think i was trying to catch a rabbit and caught the ants.

An easy way to get the Gold Crown for Endemic life in Iceborne! You should be able to get the small crown this way as well. Someone will need to confirm though.
