How to unlock the Capture Pro achievement in MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD - Definitive Guide

To capture a monster, you must first seriously weaken it. A monster will be ready to capture if they retreat to their home to sleep, have a pronounced limp, or you see a skull icon appearing next to their icon on the mini-map.

When they are in this state, get them in a trap (shock trap has worked well for me) and use a couple tranquilizer bombs on them. This will complete the capture.

Capturing monsters provides more rewards than killing, and cuts out the time of fighting a monster in their near-death state, where many can be even more powerful with attacks, so it's often the better way to go about finishing a hunt.

A point of clarification, capturing a monster can yield more mats but it's important to know it doesn't yield the same ones. Carving a monster after slaying offers different mats than it would by capturing it alive.

Does everyone in the party receive credit towards 50 captures or does only the person who places the trap get credit?

It would be everyone, as everyone also gets the capture rewards. My friend popped the achievement when I did a capture.

I am having the same issue NhoxSlash - it unlocked in-game but not on Xbox and it’s driving me crazy. No clue what to do to unlock it now.

Capture 50 monsters.

Important notes:
-When a teammate capture the monster, the whole team gets credit for the capture.
-You can progress with this achievement either in any type of quests/investigations/events or even in an expedition.
-Quests that require a capture will provide you with the items needed to do so. You can pick these up in the blue chest at the beginning of the quest.

How to get this achievement quickly:

I paired this achievement with the Hunter's Life for Me (Complete 50 optional quests).

1. Get to the quest board and under the Optional category, select the level 2 stars quest: "Snatch the Snatcher' where you need to capture a low-rank Kulu-Ya-Ku. (If you have unlocked this quest, try to talk to the Smart Biologist in Astera.

2. Start the quest and if you are high rank you don't need to eat or anything, I suggest bringing/crafting your own Shock Trap in order to always have 2 on you (When starting the quest, you can find 1 Shock Trap and 8 Tranq Bomb in the blue chest).

3. Follow the flies or track the Kulu-Ya-Ku (when you have a general idea where he is, you can always just run to the same spot as he will always spawn in the same place).

4. Weaken the monster but be careful, you are on a low rank quest and you will kill him quickly. For me a dual blade player, 3 combo was enough for a capture and 5 combo would kill him and fail the quest.

5. Once it's almost dead and you can see the skull on the minimap, drop the Shock Trap in front of it and use 2 Tranq Bomb. Voilà, you have completed an optional quest and a capture! (My average completion time was 1min45sec to 3min)

6. Select the option to go back to camp so you can save yourself some loading time. Once you are back at the camp, speak with the handler and accept the same quest.

7. Repeat step 1-6 to get both The Hunter's Life for Me and Capture Pro achievements.

Enjoy and if you have any questions, don't hesitate dance

This is more general advice for this trophy

-Don't try a capture until you see a skull on minimap
-Higher chance when they go to rest or just stand there panting
-Capture investigations will have EZ shock trap in the chest, this is an extra trap you can carry
-Make sure to have 1 shock, 1 net trap, and a bunch of tranq bombs
-My strategy is
A.If Awake drop shock/net trap first, then drop tranq bombs 2 seconds a part
B.if Asleep drop tranq first then shock/net
C.If it still isn't captured first then hit it a few times as the Hp threshold might be slightly high

You will learn how to capture monsters from an early optional quest via the Resource Center. Your first step is to make sure you have traps (Shock or Pitfall) and something to stun a monster with (Tranq Bomb or Tranq Ammo if you're using a ranged weapon). You can't capture a full-strength monster, so your the next step is to fight it normally and weaken it until it begins to run away with a visible limp. It will be moving more slowly and holding one leg up to protect it as it hobbles along (there are plenty of YouTube videos on capturing monsters, so search for one if you need help visualizing this). You will also see skulls radiating off its picture on the mini-map.

Once the monster is limping and running away, you will need to get in its path (or follow it until it stops somewhere to rest) and lay down your trap. You may need to attack it again to get it to follow you if it isn't already headed toward your trap, but once it hits the trap it will be immobilized. Then, throw a Tranq bomb at the monster, or shoot it with Tranq ammo or arrows with Tranq coating. These three things are required for a capture, and even though this is the usual order, they can technically be done in any order (such as tranqing the monster before immobilizing it).

To catch it, you need to beat the monster until it starts limping and running away. A shard will begin to appear on the map near its icon (if it has already been explored normally). Most likely he will run away to sleep.
You need to catch up with him and use one of the traps - a wolf pit or a shock trap (if the monster is not caught in a particular trap, perhaps he is immune to it).
As soon as the creature is trapped, you need to have time to throw 2 sleeping bombs at it (until it gets out).
That's it, profit. The monster has been caught. So 50 times.

To save money, you can also take a second level 10 palico device (flashfly cage) to use free traps.

The number of sleeping bombs depends on how bad the monster is. If he has 1-2 hits left, then he can do one

Elder dragons cannot be caught; traps do not work on them.

It doesn’t have to be two, but it must be placed next to your head.

The advice above is not entirely accurate. You can place a trap anywhere on the monster - whether it is caught or not depends on whether its hitbox falls on the hitbox of the trap. There is a way to simplify this matter even more - when signs of imminent death appear (a shard on the mini-map and a thread-like pulse near the monster icon in the lower left corner) - you can FIRST throw two trunk bombs under it, and THEN catch the mob and it will immediately fall asleep.

Be careful with monsters that can burrow underground (Diablos, Yuratodas and others) - if they emerge from the ground in a place where a trap is placed, it will break without any positive effects for you!

You can track the number of monsters caught in a large directory, where it will be written in brackets opposite the inscription “tracked (caught).
