How to unlock the Celestial Illusion achievement in MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for capturing the Wintermoon Nettle endemic life. You must progress the story to the
fight to unlock the northern portion of Hoarfrost Reach.

This jellyfish like creature has a chance to spawn at the summit of Hoarfrost Reach on clear nights. You may be able to spot it by looking at the southern peak in Area 14 with the survey set or binoculars but you will have to climb to the summit to verify that it has not spawned. To reach the summit:

1. Spawn into the Northeast camp, run over to Area 13, use the northern Wedge Beetles to traverse the chasm. Once you have reached the furthest northern beetle swing in the opposite direction and grab onto the beetle that is higher up.
2. You'll then land in a snowy area and have to jump below onto a ledge with a wall you can parkour up. Run up the wall and jump to the opposite one and then angle your jump onto the blue climbing wall. Climb to the top and jump onto the higher ledge. You can then parkour between the walls to get to the top and swing across another chasm with a Wedge Beetle.
3. Position yourself on the air vent pointing towards the ledge with honey and when the steam blasts you will be launched to that ledge.
4. Run past the honey and use the beetle to reach to the lower portion of the summit.
5. Take the path to the left and climb up the blue wall to reach the summit with 3 mining nodes.

If the jellyfish has spawned it will be floating around the summit peak and you can capture it with your net when it floats nearby. A Ghillie Mantle is not required.

It is recommended to stack the Felyne Zoomaster and Felyne Biologist daily skills from the canteen to increase the chance of encountering these creatures. You can maintain these skills between night cycles by moving between expeditions and not returning to a base.

On the right side of the lower portion of the summit is an
You can mine near it to earn ~1000 research points which is a nice consolation prize if the jellyfish has not spawned.

Best thing to do is buy a pair of binoculars from provisions. When exiting camp 15, and going to first big open area to right of the camp exit. You will be able to use the binoculars to look up to the area where you have to get too. If it has spawned in, you will be able to see it before making the wasted climb. Found this out today after watching someone’s YouTube video. I had already climbed up there at least 20+ times before seeing this video.

Using binoculars or the survey set doesn't always guarantee the spawn. When I captured it, I could not see it from Area 14 but it was there when I made it to the top of the mountain. Either it hadn't spawned yet or it was on the other side of the peak.

Prior to capturing it, I did see it during a monster fight in Area 14. It disappeared before I could make it to the top of the peak.

I swear to god I have already searched for this fucker over 100 times. I'm getting to the point where I just wanna say a big fuck you to this game and those pointless RNG achievements and move on.

I understand your pain SiegfriedX, these rare animal achievements are horrible. This one was the worst for me, although I still have to find the mole from every region of the guiding lands.

Yeah they rushed a lot of this game in my opinion. It is nothing new in modern gaming either. This entire part of the map is a fucking nightmare and so is the game. Believe it or not I found this on my first try and captured it. I hate to be that guy that 'easily got it' but my achievement did not trigger. Which absolutely fucking sucks.

So it looks like you might only be able to catch one of these. I have been trying this for over a day straight with the Zoo Master perk and have not been able to find another one. I have seen the little moon slugs dozens of times but never this thing again. Any thoughts on what I could do?

Thanks for the tips Xenodys. If you read the patch notes they just "fixed" being able to alter the time by traveling. You might have already known this but you used to be able to travel far distances to pass time. Like going from Astera to Elders Recess and returning. This no longer works.

You were also correct, I just caught another one. I am not sure what happened. I used up about forty meal vouchers before finally finding this again. I honestly found it on my very first time looking. After approximately forty other attempts I was starting to panic. I am now running low on meal vouchers lol. Anyway good guide, +1 from me.

Glad you found him.

In 10.1.0.2, which is the current patch, I've been able to cycle weather and monster spawns in expeditions by jumping between them (i.e., Hoarfast -> Ancient Forest -> Rotten Vale, etc.). Are you referencing the fix to "Change Objects in Area" in the training room that they implemented?

So can you actually see this thing from area 15? I go to area 15, pull out my camera from the photo challenge thing and zoom in. Is that good enough? I've traveled to the Reach roughly 50 times with it being night and clear and never seen it and only seen the jellyfish a handful of times.

I've never looked from Area 15. I have seen the jellyfish from Area 14 but didn't make it up the mountain fast enough.

When I did capture it, I did not see it in Area 14. This is why my recommendation is to go up the mountain regardless of the sighting from Area 14.

You probably could with the survey set, the jellyfish is quite big. I would do what Xenodys has suggested and double stack the biologist and zoomaster skills, it really helped with the rare moly. So wait until the biologist is the first or second daily perk (not the third one as you only get 3 perks) before searching for it, use a voucher and pick the zoomaster meal. Then keep traveling between areas until you get night and clear conditions at hoarfrost reach, hopefully with both those perks active, you should have more luck spotting / finding it, if not keep traveling back and forth while those conditions are active.

I was having issues getting a rare moly to spawn with just zoomaster perk and level 6 region, but once I combined both perks, it only took 2 travel attempts to get it to spawn.

+1. I got it with only Felyne Zoomaster (not felyne biologist) after 2 hours of farming. Climbing is useless. You definitively can see the Jellyfish from below, even without binoculars. Just wait 10 seconds if the spawn is behing the mountains.

So I searched for this thing probably sixty times with the zoologist buff on expedition and nothing. Then I gave up and started an investigation in the Reach and just happened to see it floating around up there on the mountain. Maybe the spawn rates are better when you're on an assignment rather than just roaming around during an expedition? I've caught two more this way as well.

DO NOT bother with expeditions on this one. I put on the zoologist perk and launched a Ruiner Nergigante investigation just to try something different and found it the first time on a clear night. No idea why expeditions are so terrible for it.

This is the best method IMO. Just got it this way. It took about 5h but I was able to do something else and just check once in a while if it spawn.

It should also be known the nettle will leave before dawn. I had this happen, I was excited to see it, climbed up to the summit, only to find it had left...

Easier way to do that climb…instead of parkour, just use an insect glaive and do leap and the air evade at the wall you want to climb up. Then it’s just jump to the top

It’s no issue, I was saying it to you as it’s worth adding into your guide. Your guide is good, this will just save people wasting a bit of time.

You can definitely see it with the binoculars, even if you have to stand there for 10 seconds as it might be out of view at first. It’s still better to waste 10 seconds than, 1:30-2:00minutes climbing all the way up there without checking.

When I got it using the binoculars method, I was able to see it wasn’t there, fast travelled back and forth 2 more times between hoarfrost and coral, on the third time looking through binoculars I could clearly see it up there.

Also it shouldn’t disappear, only if it changes from night to morning by the time you get up there. Using the meal that gives the feline zoomaster perk also helps rare animals to spawn more frequently.

Found mine searching for the Snow White ingredient that I was missing.

Local info: Hoarfrost Reach at Night/ Weather: Clear/ Upsurge: Butterbur.

I just went to the mining area out of impulse and there it was coming out from behind the mountain. Crazy moment, as I've been searching this thing for months and no luck. Also, no Zoologist skill as I'm missing the ingredients to activate it.

Was able to record the encounter: https://gamerdvr.com/gamer/furansan82/video/81225250

So, I’ve been at this achievement for weeks. Doing the below listed things. Difference being literally, instead of stupid expeditions I 1x & 1x only launched an optional quest. Boom there it was just to the right of the far right blue mining crop. It was not flying high at all it was almost even with the mountain ledge.

Ghillie mantle: yes
Palico: doesn’t matter I accidentally had mine & it was just fine.
Weather: clear
Daytime: night

No special eating or Jedi mind tricks necessary.

I suggest you launch a optional or investigation & check it out. Might save you a whole bunch of time.

It seems unlikely they'd limit it to one capture. I've seen other rare endemic life multiple times. I spent several days looking for the jellyfish and completed the treasure and research achievements before I managed to capture it (12+ hours of gameplay).

Tips:
1. Try stacking the Biologist and Zoomaster skills together.
2. Prolong your Daily Skills by moving between expeditions (and not returning to camp) to work on other achievements like the Tailriders treasures.
3. Once a clear night spawns in Hoarfast check for the jellyfish.
4. Rinse and repeat.
5. If all else fails, you can try joining someone else's mission in Hoarfast but the chances of finding it with this tip is pretty low.

Also, I don't think the unlock triggers are the same but a base game crown achievement didn't unlock for me once done. I had to complete another random investigation for it to unlock. It may be worth a try.
