I've just unlocked this achievement and there are several things I can potentially confirm.
Either helping current lobby quests OR SOS with Low-Rank/High-Rank hunters* count for this achievement with a few conditions.
1. Low-rank Hunter must be quest poster.
2. Low-rank Hunter must not have any other characters within account that have Master Rank unlocked. (Safest bet if they haven't finished main quest yet).
I'm unsure on how exact the second condition is, whether it would allow a friend to make a new character and aid them, but I would use it just to be safe safe.
Easiest ways to confirm this:
1. Message the person.
2. View their GT and see what achievements they've unlocked in Monster Hunter.

Just got this by doing 5 Low-Rank Story quests, 4 High-Rank Story Quests and 1 High-Rank optional quest. All of those were SOS and the Poster was not Master Rank. So you can absolutely mix and match to get the achievement.

Haven’t got around to Iceborne DLC yet. But being master rank is that from the main game? Or is there a Master rank for iceborne to reach. Thanks.
