How to unlock the Submerged Mystery achievement in MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for catching the rare fish called "Sealord's Crestfish." It can be found in Area 8 of Hoarfrost Reach in the greenish water pool. It is rare and does not show up everytime, but you'll recognize it when it does. It is a VERY large fish with a glowing stalk on its head similar to an angler fish. Good luck!

Edit: User Sakori has pointed out it is night time only and the fact that the fish researcher provides a quest to get one. So if you intend to finish those as well, might as well get the quest before you start hunting it!

I believe this can only appear at night time.

You can get a sidequest to catch one from the fisherman on expeditions, too.

I'll add that to the solution, thanks!

Took me around 4 hours of checking to get this. Very rare, but not as rare as the jellyfish thing on the same map.

When you get to the mini-game for reeling in the fish you need to be mash B the whole time not just when the prompt comes up. Didn't figure it out the first time so I had to spawn the stupid fish again.

Can anyone confirm that this fish can be caught at another fishing hole on the map as there are 2 fishing areas posted on the NE & NW side of the map.

I have never seen it at any spot other than this specific one. Considering the fishing spot looks much different from the others, I'm willing to bet it only spawns there. If anyone can prove otherwise I'll update the guide however.

I finally caught this guy and can confirm it exists! Yes, it's at night and from what I've seen so far, available in area 8 of the Hoarfrost Reach.

Also, a helpful note since I wrote "second try". If you failed to catch the fish because of reasons (mine was that the controller disconnected itself mid fish fight) the fish will not swim away - at least with me, it stayed. So I was able to try again and catch it.

In case you want to know what you are looking for, here you go

All credit for the video goes to Gaming with Abyss. Had to post their video, because my video got randomly deleted from my Xbox AND server! No idea how or why!

P.S. You do not need any special bait or anything, but your fishing rod. During night go to that location in Hoarfrost reach and if you are lucky enough the Sealord's Crestfish will be swimming around. It is a pretty rare spawn though! Also, when it bites, don't stop tapping B!

Something that I found out after I caught this fish, is that when you're doing pawswapping with the boaboa. Is that you have a chance to earn this fish as one of the trade rewards. I was able to get about 2 other crestlords from doing the trading. So if anything work on doing the pawswap first and if you haven't gotten it by the Time you finish the ten boaboa treasures then you should probably do the fishing method.

Sunset and sunrise seem to be the best times, never found it at night time as per other guides. Ghillie not required but if Tobi is there then it helps. I left palico behind also.
