You'll need to find some keys and the double jump boots before you can fight the champion. The champion is weak to fire, so I recommend bringing magmapillar and catzerker. Both have great support skills, too, especially magmapillar's passive that shields the party when an enemy takes burn damage. I picked the fire starter monster and these two and had an easy fight at level 9. If you don't have a fire starter, you might want to grind a few more levels.

Story-Related trophy and unmissable.
You will encounter the Alchemist Ostanes in the Blue Caves region, after speaking with him you will need to defeat the Minitaur Champion Monster which unlocks the trophy. If you lose this battle the game will respawn you to just before fighting him so you can try again. The level of the monsters are dependent on when you reach the region and what level your character is.
