How to unlock the The Stygian Guard achievement in Monster Train - Definitive Guide

Input the following seed into the Community Challenges section.

GibsonProduceGather

Start with the Handheld Totem champion and the Cutglebeard artifact. For now the strategy is to simply stack conductors in front of the champion.

Take the Restoration Detonation card from the first fight then take the right path, picking up Coldcaelia and slapping multistrike on her at the Merchant of Steel.

Grab the Ice Tornado from the second fight and again go down the right side. Add the Titan Sentry to your deck them reroll the Merchant of Steel to put Largestone on it. The strategy from here is to put the Titan Sentry on the first floor and the champion/Coldcaelia/construct combo on the second.

Pick up the Lodestone Totem from Daedalus and increase your capacity. You can start adding the Totem to the floor with the Titan Sentry to reduce the damage it needs to absorb. Make sure you cast your spells on this floor but just so that the enemies have 1 or 2 attack left. You still want them to his your Sentry and stack Frost.

Take the right path after the boss and grab just the 75 hold. Choose the Handheld Totem II upgrade for your champion.

On the 5th level hang a left and reroll to trinket shop to get the Titan's Claw and start purging those conductors.

On the 6th level go right and hit the Ice Cave. Put the option to reduce a monster to 1 capacity on your Titan Sentry. Now all of you non-conductor monster should fit on a single floor.

After the Aechus fight take the ember upgrade then hang a left to get rid of a couple more conductors and use the Merchant of Steel to add another multistrike to Coldcaelia. This time take the Chillwind champion upgrade.

I suggest taking the trial on level 7 for the extra 400 gold. This will be useful for paying to purge some final cards before Seraph. Take the left path after the fight and reduce a couple of your spells to 0 cast and add 10 magic power to your Restoration Detonation with a reroll. Purge yourself down to around 18-20 cards (dropping lances and restores) and you're good to go. Make sure you keep your Razorshar Edges to put on Coldcaelia and your champion to counteract Seraphs sap he puts on them.

The boss fight is pretty straight forward. I put everyone on the second floor to ensure I got the setup I wanted then cast my spells, keeping an eye on Coldcaelia and the champions attack. Save your permafrost spells for the final fight with Seraph if possible but it's not a big deal if you need to use them early as they aren't consumed on use.

This can unlock the Win at Covenant 5, 10, 15 and 25 achievements if you do not have them already as well as The Stygian Guard.

Enjoy!

Thank you for these methods. They've been invaluable. I just wanted to add that, to be able to afford the Largestone for your Titan Sentry, you have to turn on the trial for the first fight so you can cash out that extra card, and then ONLY take the cards mentioned in this description.

If you didn't take the challenge on the first fight you can still get the Largestone by cashing out the card from the Caverns event in the same area with the Merchant

Think there is more RNG with this one, still a solid guide, but I failed near the end. Will give it another go.

Ok I found out the problem with being short coins for the large stone. Make sure you frozen lance the “collector” on the top floor of the first fight, as in, if you did what I did and put a steward there thinking it would kill the “collector” your unit will be dazed as per the 10th covenant rank and thus the “collector” will flee making you short 50 coins.

I know these have worked before, as I've used them previously. It seems with the release of the Last Divinity DLC it has reset the seed so the guide no longer works sadly

okay since op seed isnt the same anymore i did the run a little different but i still used the seed..... first off instead of the titan (which never comes up as an option) get the coldcaelia first and up her health only but make sure you add the largestone first then the other 2 +25 health later second of which comes from a cave and use her as the front unit mostly with the exception of two battles one of which is the final boss

make sure you hit all areas that lets you purge 2 units ie the stewards get rid of all of them and also hit each cavern when available, also focus on frostbite then -1 dmg spells and then fostbite again for the champion next you want to grab an Edge of Prior and Guard of the Unnamed, you will also want to grab a Siren of the sea and give her incant: gain armor 2 the next unit you want is a Glacial Seal

one of the caves will offer a Trap Chute spell at some point and you want to duplicate it eventually it'll help with a couple battles, some other spells to grab is a Drain, Flash Freeze, Frenzied Swarm and Harness the Titan

now when he says to grab the Restoration of Detonation grab the Razorsharp Edge instead and then grab the Restoration the next time it pops up and up its magic power once like suggested above

now as far as artifacts i dont remember where i got each one some were from a battle some from caves and others from the random artifact box or trinket seller which i dont believe i ever refreshed but the ones i grabbed is Cuttlebeard, Hammered Chestplate, both Light of Seraph from boss battles, Founding Seal, Tempered Talisman, Railforger's Hammer and Tethys' Scales

i might have some items out of order im not sure how the order works in the Run Summary and i normally don't give advice or step by step to people i figured since no one had done it for this one yet then why not i'll be nice, its not completely detailed or the best laid out but i tried and hope it helps but there might be a little room for error with upgrades on other cards just stick to what i said and change up what wasn't said as needed until you complete it i accidentally made a few errors in the run during battles luckily it didnt cost me much as far as the battles go

a few notes i only purged the 6 stewards and nothing else so don't worry about buying an extra purge from shops i did get a Preserved Thorns But never actually used it was just an extra spell for an incant i tink i only managed to use it once or twice and i also put an Emberstone on the Harness the Titan spell which helped and only only 2 spells had a single upgrade and thats it, and don't worry about adding any quick, endless or multistrikes on your units it wont be needed focus mainly on Battlestone, Strengthstone and Heartstone, but give your Guard of Unnamed a Thornstone and Largestone it will be very handy

and i think i covered everything i hope lol well good luck and i hope this helped

This one seems tricky to do. Relies pretty heavily on RNG to get your unit cards out and in the right order at the start.

Thanks for the guide, completed first time even though I lost the Titan quite quickly in the Seraph fight. RNG isn't too bad here if you clear enough cards down. I picked up a spell that produces 3 Sting spells at some point which was also useful for triggering Sap with the additional 3 0-cost attack spells.

There's a much easier way to get this. Create your own challenges!

Set the challenge to Covenant 25, select the Dante mutator with either the two Purge card mutators, or one purge and the quick mutator. Dante gains 1 multistrike for every purge card in your deck so you want as many as possible. Upgrade Dantes attack throughout the run (getting quick if you didn't choose the mutator) and duplicate him as often as you can (ideally after he has quick) and grab the additional floor space after the first boss.

Don't take any additional trials that involve spikes unless you really want to as they're the only thing outside of bosses that really damage Dante. With average luck you can get 4 Dantes by the end of the run, each doing about 30 x 11 damage per turn, more if you get some good luck at the Merchant of Steel. NOTE: If you get the cavern event for the Excavated Ember purge cards, DO NOT TAKE THEM, when they upgrade, all of them upgrade drastically reducing your multiplier.

I don't know if you can duplicate Dante without the DLC, but if not, duplicate the purge cards.

Thank you for this, I never realized it was possible to enable Covenant 25 on custom challenges without unlocking Covenant 25 legit. Makes this much easier

I also got defeat Seraph before their combat (had 3 waves left) and end with 40+ cards in the deck

HistoryMotionProblems is one I just made. Give Dante large at after first battle and some bonus attack at the upgrade shop then after second fight make him double extra large at the cavern. Then you’re all set!

Thanks to the above (HistoryMotionProblems), I got this pretty easy and also got the We Are Born of Monsters achievement for winning a covenant 25 run.

Also used History, very effective. It took over a minute at the end for the achieve to pop… got a bit nervous!

HistoryMotionProblems made this easy. By the end, I had 3 copies of Dante by copying him at every Forge I ran into. I also managed to snag the Archpocalypse achievement too (Archus is a pain in the ass trying to defeat before his turn to attack, this made it a cinch)

Working seed as of August 19/21 - TheoremIntegralHandbook

Also managed the 40+ cards in deck, due to the Fissure event which copies 5 cards into your deck.
