How to unlock the Culinary Arts achievement in Moonglow Bay - Definitive Guide

Here are some tips as you head toward cooking every recipe:

• Batch size has zero impact on mastery, always cook 1/x when going only for mastery. Maxing your batches is good to earn money on a high-profit meal.
• One-star and two-star results have zero impact on mastery.
• Earn three stars three times to go from Basic to Novice, three more times to hit Intermediate, and three more times to hit Advanced. Note that not every recipe needs to be maxed out (Advanced), so make sure to note the required level before going too far (thanks to Maxumilli0n for pointing that last part out)
• There's currently a typo in the "grilled fish steaks with mango avocado salsa" recipe prerequisite, it says you need Shark Steak mastery, but it means Deep Sea Steaks.
• If you mess up a recipe before the last step, you can exit the kitchen and get your ingredients back. Useful for recipes with tough-to-catch requirements.
• Cook your recipes with the strictest requirements first (i.e. Sail Fish) so that you don't accidentally use those ingredients in another recipe (i.e. Any Fish).
• Buying the Galley for your boat is handy so that you can cook while at sea.
• You can see which recipes you have already done in the Journal, as these have pictures next to them. The recipes that are missing a picture you still need to do for the achievement. (thanks to F77Bloky for pointing this out!)
• There are a few recipes you have to buy at the Sea Market, that vendor never gets new recipes. There is at least one recipe you get from a side quest (Rose will be singing to start it).
• You have to get greens on the Fillet step, no reds, to earn 3 stars on that meal.
• If you're looking for lobsters, crabs, and shrimp; max out your crab pots from Abi and spam them all in one spot. Sleep 24hrs (in your boat, preferably) and then retrieve all your traps. Repeat in other biomes.
• Two renovation rewards are incredibly useful:

• If you need large fish en masse, the fishing spot under the white sphinx rock formation in Open Chill (NW corner of the map) always gives Frosted Catfish. Combine with one of the renovation rewards to pull in the large fish very quickly.

I hope this helps!

Man Rainbow Rice Bowl made this the worst. Gave me way more trouble than the sail fish.

Phew! That's better than 3 starring everything. My controller was bound to be thrown at the wall otherwise. Thanks!

That rainbow fish rice is a bitch, 6 perfect fillets. One thing to add is some dishes require novice, intermediate or advanced not all of them have to be advanced or 3 stars to unlock the next recipe.

Nice guide, I had the same tips! But I believe you can see which recipes you have already done in the Journal, as these have pictures next to them. The recipes that are missing a picture you still need to do for the achievement.

I hate filleting or cutting with one input immediately after reversing. Extremely frustrating to get right, especially with the frequent stuttering in the game.

I'll add that in! Yeah, the immediate chop after reversing gets me too often.

Good guide! I am on the fence about getting this achievement... the cooking mini games get old really fast. Plus I can't seem to catch a Sail fish to save my life.

Brutal, just about done with every recipe and I’m triple checking where shark steaks recipe is for the grilled fish steaks with mango avocado salsa recipe prerequisite and that’s the one I’m assuming you get from “song of the sea” which is absolutely broken on this playthrough. Such a bad time to realize. Hope there is an incoming fix haha

Don’t spend any time on this achievement until after you complete Song of the Sea; it’s a quest that’s known to glitch. Don’t be like me and have every recipe but one and have to start a new game not just for every quest but having to redo every recipe

Just in case anyone else also experienced this bug:

If you did most of your cooking on the boat and you cooked your last meal there AND the achievement doesn't unlock for you right away, then return to your home and auto cook a recipe besides low/high bait. That fixed it for me.

Can you confirm that you have to get 3-star mastery (cooking each nine times perfectly)? Or do you just need to cook each once perfectly? The fillet is easy to mess up and the cooking mini game on the whole bores me to tears. If that's true then this will be super painful...

The achievement is just for cooking each recipe once, but some recipes only unlock when you get to a certain mastery tier on another recipe. So no, you don't need 3 stars on everything.

Thanks! I agree with your achievement suggestion, would have been much nicer! Especially on some of the complicated recipes with rarer ingredients... very "all or nothing" :/

Great guide for a truly awful cheevo. The recipe progression is easily the worst / most annoying part of this game. If I could make one change it would be allowing batches or 2 star results to progress mastery of a dish. That would make the ENTIRE GAME less annoying and grinding than it currently is.
