How to unlock the The Whole Journey achievement in Moonglow Bay - Definitive Guide

To unlock this achievement, you need to catch all 151 different fish in the game and submit them to Marina at the Aquarium to research them. You can see which fish you've researched in your Journal as they are marked with a magnifying glass icon next to their picture. Special thanks to Maxumilli0n who provided info on the final fish I needed.
Along the way, you will unlock 11 other achievements related to researching small groups of fish, listed here
General Notes
  • Tackle this achievement after (partly) renovating the town, as the final two milestone rewards before the 100% (i.e. multi-lure and fishing line) can really speed things up.
  • Use Lobster Traps or Fishing Net on groups of non-moving fish to catch Lobsters, Crabs, etc.
  • Make sure to save before any of the boss fish and check if you got their Journal entries after the fights. InkyPaws notes in the comments that if you happen to miss the cutscene after a boss fish encounter due to a bug or by going inside your ship, you may also be missing its Journal entry which makes it impossible to unlock the achievement on your current playthrough. Therefore, make sure that you get the associated entry for each boss fish, or else reload your save and redo the encounter.
  • I found most of the information in the Journal not very helpful, except the Locations where to find each fish. Some of the additional instructions (e.g. particular combination of rod and lure) worked, others did not, at least for me. So, if you have trouble finding a particular fish, don't be afraid to switch up your equipment, try at a different time or place.
  • Most of all, be patient. Some are just extremely rare, but if you keep trying, you will find them all.

Any tips on the Horsemane Hellfish and the Howling Midshipman? Last 2 fish I need and have tried for hours and nothing.

Just going to note that if you miss a cutscene after a boss fish because it bugs out or you accidentally go back inside the ship - reload and do it again. I've got the barnacle whale entry missing and am hoping they patch it somehow.

@tai chi lord You should be able to find it in the Shallow Steam, the part of the map where you can only go with the dinghy. I think you can catch it using a fishing rod but also with the fishing net.

Is the fishing net upgradeable? I know there is the little girl who says that if you keep cleaning up the trash in the Bay she will upgrade it, but I've gotten a lot of trash and she keeps saying the same line.

@wolfzero01 No, I don't think it is. I had also tried this but I didn't get any upgrade or notice any difference in fishing with the net after cleaning trash.

A quick tip for anyone trying to clean up the last of the ones with lobster traps: the space right in front of the Ocean Door to the hot springs biome has to Conch Crabs, the Trident Lobster, and I think the Spider Crab (if not, it's right next door at the Lonely Rock).

Also, Sail Fish has to be caught in the evening (15.00-24h).

Newbie question: some fish stay still in the water, those can be caught with a net, as well as those moving in a school / shoal. But I can't catch from the spots where fish are spinning in their place in a circle, what are those for?

@Anders1983 To be honest, I don't really know. I always assumed you're more likely to catch something when fishing in the circle but this is purely based on speculation. But I think it's fair to say it's not crucial to complete the game.

WARNING! I ran into a glitch where I donated too many fish at once and it only gave me the dialogue for only catching 140 fish and skipped the dialogue for collecting all fish. Luckily, I was smart enough to make a save before donating all my fish. So make a save before handing in all your fish or leave some fish left over and don't donate them all at once, so the dialogue for catching all fish doesn't skip.

Handy note for the net when you want to AFK and catch some fish: leaving the net out over where you just netted a fish will have the next spawn end up right in your net. Not sure if there’s a cap, but just wanted to share. ^_^

@MrIcyDeath I think those can be caught using the fishing net if I remember correctly. I would try that or else with the fishing line if you have unlocked that already, at the areas that are indicated in the Journal. If you keep going, they should pop up sometime. The last ones always seem to take the longest...

Definitely the best of the guides. The inclusion of the time to catch them made all the difference. Plus the multiple areas to catch each one was nice and reduced having to travel around. The only things I would suggest for improvement is maybe separating them into groups of 4 according to which tab/page they are on to make it a little easier to find the ones you're missing, and include which rod is needed for a few specific ones that need a certain rod as well as lure. But other than that I got the ones I was missing first try using your guide. +1 and more if I could from me.

This was so useful! I've been looking for the times when fishes spawn all over the internet. Thanks to this guide I was able to easily get the last few fishes I was missing. As suggested above, separating the fish in groups of 4 would improve the guide.

Hello aspiring anglers!

The Whole Journey achievement in Moonglow Bay is probably going to be the most timing consuming and grinding achievement you'll get for the whole game, but that doesn't mean it will necessarily be that difficult. I've successfully found and caught every fish in the game, and am going to list every fish, along with how and where to catch them! You also have to turn each and every fish in to Marina at the Aquarium, and finish her last dialog before the achievement will pop.

Before I get started, it's worth noting that there is a wiki for the game, although at the time of writing it is still very incomplete: https://moonglow-bay.fandom.com/wiki/Moonglow_Bay_Wiki

For the sizes of fish, use the following bait: Small - None/Low-Grade, Medium - Low/High-Grade, Large - High-Grade only.

Now, let's crack on with some fishing! Below I've listed all the fish in the order they appear in the Journal in-game, along with the in-game descriptions of how and where to catch them. It is worth noting that many fish can be caught in locations or with methods other than what is listed, but as this is how the game recommends it, this is the information I will relay to you. I've also put spoiler tags on the fish that are related to the story (boss fish, if you will). It's also worth noting that some locations may technically be a spoiler, as not all locations are immediately available at the start of the game, so use your own discretion there.
