How to unlock the Careful Merchant achievement in Moonlighter - Definitive Guide
Even on Hard it’s not too difficult to get this achievement with less than 20 deaths once you have good gear and potions. Just don’t forget to use your pendant to escape a poor fight or when your inventory is full!
If you’re struggling with the game you can use online price guides to get the most out of the items you sell and prioritize grabbing the more expensive ones. Upgrade your weapon as soon as you can and then armor. Once you get far enough in and unlock the banker guy in town you can just give him all of your money, sleep in and skip days at home, and get the money back when it’s at a net gain, and repeat until you’re at the max money of $999,999,999. It takes awhile but exponentially grows, just don’t get too distracted and accidentally sleep again on a day when you should’ve cashed out. If you don’t grab it within 7 days he’ll keep all the money you gave him.
This is actually much easier than it sounds. If you feel under-equipped when heading into a boss, it's always better to warp back to town and sell your inventory to buy better armor and weapons. I was able to do this with only 10 deaths, which can be tracked in the Moonlighter Game Hub on your dashboard. There is nowhere inside the game to check this count.
There is no tracker for this, so you will have to keep track of your deaths. If you're worried about this trophy, when you die, you can exit out of the game before you select an option to go back to town, or try again, to go back to your last auto save before you died. Make sure you have not died 40 times at the end of the game for the trophy.
To help with this, make sure you always have the latest armor you can get for your area, as that will add to the total of your health. Upgrade your bed, as that will add a shield meter to your health. Keep health potions on you and use the recovery pools whenever you can. Also, you can always use your Merchant Emblem to go back to town, where you will recover all your health and gain back your shield buff.
