How to unlock the It Takes a Thief to Catch a Thief achievement in Moonlighter - Definitive Guide

After purchasing the third shop upgrade and unlocking the desert dungeon, you can unlock the banker on the town board, which will make him appear in the town square during the day. By talking to him, you can invest any amount of gold. Returning to him on any day later, he will show you a percentage of either profit or loss on your investment. You have the option to cash out your investment and receive your money back; doing so and taking a profit five times will unlock this achievement.

After cashing out, talk to the banker again and he'll tell you to return in a number of days. Note that you'll have to talk to him exactly on the day he tells you, or you'll have to wait another number of days as he's busy "helping other clients".

This is very simple, just requires waiting many days. If you want to grind this out quickly, simply sleep repeatedly until the required day.

Actually, 03/16/2020 there is a bug that you can claim the money with the banker multiple times without invest more money
The bug is when you ask for claim your money, will pop the confirmation window. When you say "yes" the window don't close, so you can say him "yes" and receibe the money of that invest

The Banker can be invited to town for 70k gold, but only after beating the third dungeon. From there, you will need to invest some gold in him and check each day to see if it has increased. If so, cash out and then repeat four more times. Beware that if you go a week without checking back, the Banker will take your entire investment, and he can only be used once per week as well.

**Glitched**
It seems the counter for this resets when you exit the game and/or does not track properly. The work around is to do this all in one session.

You will need to purchase the Banker town upgrade from the bulletin board in the village for 70,000 gold. You will be unable to purchase this town upgrade until you have beat the Forest Dungeon and also have purchased the third shop upgrade.

Once purchased, the Banker will be available during the day. Talk to him and invest any amount of gold. When you return to him on a different day, he will either show you a gain or loss on your investment. When you are shown a gain in your investment, cash out to receive your money you've invested, plus the profit. Do this five times to unlock the trophy.

Possibly a glitchy achievement . I didn’t get any items after purchasing all the items available at the time of opening the 4th dungeon from the merchant.

do not forget to take away the invested money from the mustachioed Jew before the last day, otherwise it will burn and you will not earn anything
