How to unlock the Perfect Carnivorous Mutae achievement in Moonlighter - Definitive Guide

Conditions
- The boss needs to be defeated without being hit (not just without losing health). Meaning if you have bonuses like shields or extra health, as soon as that goes down, the achievement is void.
- The achievement is missable. You can only fight each boss once per playthrough. If you've already defeated it, you need to start a new game (or continue on into NG+ for a slightly tougher fight)

Preparations
- Get the strongest Sword & shield and Bow (and fully upgrade them to make the fight go faster).
- Get to the room before the boss room in the Forest dungeon and warp back home with the Merchant Emblem
- Quit to the main menu, and make a backup of your save in case something goes wrong
- Warp back to the boss room and get ready to fight

Boss breakdown
The fight has four phases that loop:

- First phase: Mutae will walk peacefully, and then start shooting out flower turrets. The turrets land in random locations, and shoot shots targeted at you. Until the shots start reaching you, you can go to town on Mutae and should take away most of its health.
- Second phase: Run and dodge away from Mutae to avoid the roots shooting out of the ground.
- Third phase: Mutae will pounce at you. It can't jump too far, so keeping your distance is safe enough.
- Fourth phase: Mutae shoots a bullet-hell spiral, which is easy enough to dodge or just walk through from a distance.

During phase three and foor, you can shoot Mutae with the bow from a safe distance, or take out some turrets to make life a bit easier. In any case, rinse, repeat, and it should go down quickly.

The achievement pops as soon as the boss is defeated.

In case you get hit/die/defeat the boss after taking a hit
Just immediately quit to the main menu and choose "continue". You should start off in bed before going into the warp. But in case something goes wrong, you have the backup save to restore from. Because you did make a backup, right?

For me everytime he used the roots I ran all the way to the right wall and the roots never went to the side and hit me no matter how close he was. There seems to be an invisible barrier for the roots creating a safe zone at the edge

The trick of Cro11 to stick to the right of the screen works perfectly. A good bow is a good idea to keep some distance from the boss. It helps a lot to avoid is spiral bullet attacks.

Yeah I expect with the addition of rings etc there are a lot more efficient ways of doing this. Maybe create a separate solution for a “high level gear” run? And good luck, Naja is hell.

Spear charge attack spam works a lot faster and is much easier for this as you’re invulnerable during the attack. https://www.xbox.com/play/media/DXZDABHFV4 Wouldn’t recommend being this aggressive in the latter part of the fight; I was trying to get the broom kill but ended up going overkill.

Kept getting hit once or twice and having to start over. I tried combining with the broom one, but it's better to focus on these separately. I don't know if broom is one playthrough, but you can force close after unlocking the perfect ones and then do the broom one.

Went in with Wood's Spear fully maxed, the Wanderer Ring and the Emergency Attack Ring, along with the Golem Baby Slime pet. Had the enemies in the second to last room do enough damage to trigger the EA Ring, and then went into the boss room and spammed the attack button. Killed it right before the first turret shots hit me. Requires a little luck with the golem stuns, but was super easy. Worked pretty well for the first boss too, although I couldn't kill it until phase 2.

I doubt the snake boss will be as easy though, not looking forward to that one...

**Missable**

The Carnivorous Mutate is at the end of the Forest Dungeon on the 3rd floor. To get this, you must avoid taking damage. This is missable, as the boss does not respawn after he is defeated. To make this easier, when you arrive at the entrance to the boss, use your Merchant Emblem and go back to town and sleep or run your shop. This will save the game, so if you mess up during the boss fight, you can exit out and reload your game, and you will start from there to try again.

I suggest using a bow for this and keeping at a distance. He will start out by swinging his tentacles, which you can dodge out of the way, or just be back far enough. After that, you will see him put his roots in the ground, which will cause roots to start popping up from the ground underneath you. This will happen 3 times, so continuously dodge out of the way until it stops. If you are near the wall, the roots usually stop a bit in front of it, so staying by the side walls is a safe bet, the top and bottom, you'll still get hit. He will then emit pollen out from his body which you can either walk between them once they are far enough apart, or just dodge through it. He will also try and jump on you from time to time.

During this, the boss will shoot out seeds that will produce some other plants, which will continually shoot pollen at you as well. Either dodge the pollen, or kill the plants. Continue to chip away at the bosses health until he is defeated.

For more information about the perfect victory, see the description of the Perfect Golem King trophy

Carnivorous Mutae has 5 attacks, and constantly approaches the player:
A1. It moves its tentacles chaotically, and when it hits, it hits the player - if you stand directly UNDER him (or FACE him from below), it does no damage, but beware of A2.
A2 . Launches projectiles around itself with a propeller - we tumble through the “flow”, so we don’t get carried away with attacks during A1.
A3 . Jumps on the player - we just run back in any direction, do not allow the flower to squeeze us at the bottom edge.
A4 . Releases spores that turn into flowers that launch projectiles at the player - we periodically dodge the attacks of the flowers.
A5 . It sends roots into the ground and then attacks the player - the most dangerous attack for the trophy, which is very easy to completely dodge.

Easily killed with a BOW - run to the right or left wall and shoot at the boss from there. If you stand close to the wall A5, the player WILL NOT reach the player at all, all you need to do is tumble from A2 , and most likely shoot the flowers from A4 , so that you have to tumble less in principle. When the boss approaches, we run headlong to the opposite wall and continue shooting.
