How to unlock the Kontender achievement in Mortal Kombat 1 - Definitive Guide

Under Versus>Online, the option under Ranked is Kombat League. This is the ranked multiplayer mode where you will ideally face opponents of similar skill, and you can earn rewards as you rank up.

For this achievement, you need to complete five "sets" of Kombat League matches. A set is a best-of-three series against the same opponent.

What this achievement should really say is "Lose 10 Kombat League matches" because that's honestly what it will take to unlock this. As I said, a set is a best of three matches, so you have to keep fighting the same opponent to complete the set. However, the loser of each match gets to choose how to proceed, whether that is to continue the set, choose a new character or quit to the main menu. It is all too common for people to leave after the first match if they lose, if they didn't already quit during the middle of it. If you or your opponent leaves before the set is complete, it doesn't count for the achievement, though it will still register under your Kombat Stats.

If you just let the opponent beat you, and then select Rematch, you can get a set done in just two fights. At lower ranks this will not deduct points from your rank progress, but it will obviously count as a loss on your record.

Once you get to the set results screen you should see the achievement tracker tick up.

@count023 It does not count if the opponent quits. You need to complete the set and see the results screen.

Been there. It sucks but I've let them win a couple times just to make progress

There is a small mistake in the guide. A Kombat League set is a best-of-three, not five. So at fastest you only need to finish 10 matches, changing the opponent every 2 matches

@FallenToast That was changed with the newest season. The best of five was correct at launch.

This trophy requires you to play and COMPLETE 5 Online Ranked, Kombat league sets. Which is 5 fights, vs the same opponent.

You do not get credit if you or your opponent quit before the entire 5 fights are completed.

Yeah. Sweet right?

This achievement isn’t too difficult to unlock, because you can unlock it by losing terribly. A Kombat League Set is an online ranked match, best of five format, against a single opponent. Play three of these – so a total of fifteen rounds – and you will unlock this achievement.

You need to play (not necessarily win) in a rating battle of exactly 5 series, and not just battles. A series is a battle of up to 3 victories with the same opponent. If you quit, or the opponent quit before one of the sides received 3 victories, it will not count. At the end of the series, they will write to you the final result and offer you a friendly match, only then can you leave or look for a new opponent, and so on 5 times.

The trophy did not fall until I turned on the “show network status in battle” setting, although 20 episodes had already been completed. Located in "Duel - Online Mode - Settings"
