How to unlock the ARCADE KOMBATANT achievement in Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection - Definitive Guide

Okay 1st off, you are going to need an Xbox 360 turbo controller for this method to work. I recommend using a fight-stick or fight-pad. (I personally used the SF4 fight-pad) with the turbo button feature.

Next make sure you set the difficulty to "Very Easy". Allot of people have said that changing the difficulty setting's doesn't matter because these "MK Games" are straight arcade ports with non-modifying difficulty. However you might as well change them, just to be safe.

Okay on to the method:

1. You are going to be playing Liu Kang to get this achievement. Don't bother switching characters at all, just stick to Liu Kang.

2. Make sure you set the "B" (Low Kick) button on turbo. You can ether hold down the turbo manually or rubber band the controller.

3. Make sure your holding down the "B" button during the character selection screen on Liu Kang's picture. DO NOT LET GO!!! You will be holding down this button though the entire arcade mode playthough. The only time you will have to let go of the "B" button is if you die and see the continue screen, or the method messes up (which I will address at the bottom of this post).

How It Works:

Okay so Liu Kang has a bicycle kick move that can be used by "holding down the B button for 4 seconds". Normally you can execute this move by just simply holding down the "B" button for 4 seconds and releasing it to perform the bicycle kick. However with a turbo controller, the "B" button is constantly being held down and released at the same time, so you can do instant bicycle kicks till the end of time.

The bicycle kicks happen so fast and so constant, that the A.I. has no way of handling the situation and will ether: Block forever, Duck for a while, or just get pummeled by Liu Kang's deadly feet of doom.

*THIS WORKED AGAINST EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER IN ARCADE MODE*

Miscellaneous Stuff:

1. Make sure you do not touch any directions or any other button, you only need to hold down the "B" button and Liu Kang will do his thing.

2. This method or glitch (whatever you wanna call it), sometimes will randomly not work. You will know if it's not working when Liu Kang will just keep kicking the air like an idiot. If that is the case, Let the CPU beat you down and just continue. Keep trying till you get Liu Kang back into the bicycle Kick rhythm. Usually once you got the rhythm down, he won't stop bicycle kicking though out the entire arcade mode.

3. Like I said before, this method will work against all the other fighters (including Kintaro and Shao Kahn). However I did have a slight problem against Scorpion's spear move. So if at all possible you might want to fight him legit in the earlier stages.

4. PROFIT!!! THIS METHOD ONLY TOOK ME 15 MINS TO COMPLETE MKII ON NORMAL DIFFICULTY.

I tried doing this with a hori pad ex 2 turbo controller and it didn't seem to work. Is there a video showing how its supposed to look? When I have the turbo on the highest setting the character does nothing but on medium setting he just does a normal kick in the air.

Great solution, most likely only getting negative votes due to jealousy as you said. I'm doing this just fine with the hori ex 2. There is the occasional problem as he says in the solution the only tough one was Kintaro really.

I have a Hori Ex 2, and this method doesn't seem to work it. I'll get 1 bicycle kick at the beginning of the round if i'm lucky and then he just starts low kicking. If anyone else has a Hori Ex 2, and got it to work, please let me know how. But this might only work with a fight stick.

worked fine for me, even with the patch released last year. I used the SF4 fight pad too (Ruy Edition ;P) with turbo. sometimes, Liu Kang stopped doing the bicycle kick so I let the AI win both rounds. After that, it worked fine again.

This worked 50/50, sometimes it would work flawlessly, othertimes it would work once or twice and then stop. It didn't really work on Shao Kahn properly. Every single time it would get to about 50% of his health and I would have to try and finish him off normally.
It also works on MK3, but again it's 50/50 whether it works or not.

Doesn't work with MicroCon controllers - tried both turbo speeds, at most I got 2 kicks before it stopped. Also has issues with Cage's shadow kick and Sub-zero's freeze as they're faster than the bicycle kick.

I've got, I'm not sure, Hori EX1 I guess? It's a blue controller says Hori on it, the back says HORIPAD EX TURBO. I can't get it to work even the 50% everyones saying. He does it once at the beginning of the first round, after that just kicks the air no matter what I do. Any thoughts?

Also can confirm that the wHori doesn't work well for this, a few matches it worked and bicycle kicked them to death, but all other times it would just do 1 or 2 and then stop. In the end it still helped a bit, but not as much as I'd hoped lol

I'd say this works great, but it doesn't - but - it gets you there. Took me a few matches before it started rocking, and then it was inconsistent at best. It eventually works enough to simplify some really annoying enemies.

FYI, if you're using a Hori EX2, the "do nothing" activity of your character is a signal that you're doing it right. I set my controller to maximum turbo speed. I also agree with holding the stick away from the opponent as well, you'll walk away and give yourself more time for the bicycle kicks to start up again - it doesn't interfere with the kick.

Working "perfectly" on January 3rd 2012 ! I was having troubles playing normally at stage 5-6, then I just plugged my Arcade Stick, turned the B button (using "default controller config") on Turbo, and choosed Liu Kang holding B from character selection to ... the end ^^ (Pretty funny to watch and hear Liu doing his bycicle move so fast =D!)

Worked 1st time for a few fights, then I had to lose some fights to get it working again !! But it's not really a big deal... since I beated Kintaro & Shao Kahn on 1st try ! =)

Saved me a few minutes : so Positive Vote & Thumbs UP for this solution !!
Thanks !

Just did this today with the SF4 pad. Turbo mode worked about 95% of the time so only a few inconsistent moments.
One thing to note is that while holding down B after defeating jade in the secret match, my game locked up when kicking me back to the fighter select screen. To get around this I just let jade beat me and turned off turbo while the select screen was popping up.

Felt good to cheese the AI after getting cheesed for decades.

I hate using Kitana. She's terrible AND she's a boring kharacter. I don't even like using her for local co-op on my couch against my friends who are bad at MKII even though I can easily beat them with her.

However, I cannot stress enough how essential she is to conquering MKII.
Without further ado, here's how to beat Mortal Kombat II:

1. Go to "Help & Options". Set difficulty to "Very Easy". Even Shang Tsung is easy.
2. Use whoever you want to work your way up to Kintaro.
3. Once at Kintaro, if not using Kitana, die (you should have NO problem doing that!) and kontinue to select Kitana as your fighter.
4. When fighting Kintaro, JUMP KICK him in the face and jump back away from him. This will attract him to walk toward you.
5. With Kintaro walking toward you, use FAN LIFT to levitate him. Then use FAN THROW to slice him bloody.
6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 until Kintaro is defeated. If he jumps up high to do that stomp move on you, be sure to jump as far away from him as possible so that you do not get crushed.

For Shao Kahn, it is easier. He is much more aggressive, but that is his downfall. He will always come toward you except for a couple of times when he just stands there. To make sure this does not happen and to easily defeat him:

1. Jump toward Shao Kahn and quickly jump back away from him.
2. IMMEDIATELY use FAN LIFT. While he is levitating, use FAN THROW.
3. Rinse and repeat.

This method for defeating Shao Kahn works so well, I got a DOUBLE FLAWLESS VICTORY on him... and I've only beaten the Super NES version of MKII... once... while using a cheat code. I've never beaten MKII in the arcade, so you know if I can do it, you can do it. This method is much easier than anyone I've seen posted on TrueAchievements. Much easier than using low fireball with Liu Kang... wink

UPDATE:
Using my own technique, I managed to beat an original MKII arcade cabinet!

Okay, so I jump kick kintaro, jump away and fan lift then hit him with the fans. after the the first time, I jump away because I can never land a second kick on him. Any tips for how to string this combo together better? Also, if I stay away from him and try to fan lift he shots fireballs in my face. Game over for me.

Wow the other fighters were harder than the bosses using this method. Mileena was a bitch with her rolls so that fight is almost pure luck. Timing is key with this method. Some fighters you have to wait until there almost close to you and others at a distance before using the fan lift. And hold that block while setting up the fan lift move.

Mortal Kombat II is the worst fighting game you have ever played? No, just because something is difficult, challenging or unfair doesn't make it bad. Sounds like the people who said Super Meat Boy sucked because it was so hard.

Then you must not have played these horrible fighting games: http://www.screwattack.com/shows/originals/screwattack-top-1...

The best and easiest way to beat Mortal Kombat 2 is to cheese the computer more than it cheeses you. I suggest using Baraka, and do his blade shredder move every time the computer player walks up to you. Which is the entire game! You just have to time it so that you're not doing it too soon, before they are within range.

For Kintaro use a combination of some back and forth jump kicks and his blade shredder move. When Kintaro jumps out of the screen and comes down, if you are already doing the blade shredder move, he will land in it every time. Once you watch his visual queues and get your timing correct, he's not hard at all.

For Shao Khan my original suggestion applies. Just keep doing the blade shredder move. Shao Khan will often walk into it or shoulder slide into it. Game over. You win. Achievement's your.

Your solution is by far the best solution here. The only downside of this achievement is that it's glitchy as hell ! I've beaten MK2 twice using your tactics but no unlock for me. I'm about to give up and wait for an update of the game...

Thanks. I'm glad my solution helped you the most.

I also didn't get the achievement the first time I beat the game. The second time I did. Try restarting your Xbox, loading the game, and going straight into MK2, then beating it again. Not a guarantee, just a recommendation after what I did.

So halfway up the ladder it began to get brutal, Liu Kang is a complete douche, but Kintaro was easy while just using Jump Kicks, Shao Kahn was actually the easiest fight when I realized to not stop doing the Blade Shredder, needed to be relentless with it and I nearly got a Double-Flawless against him.

By Wanderer128 on 10 Jan 2013 05:00
In my honest opinion this strategy with Baraka is truly the easiest way to go about winning this game.
You are correct, when it comes to Shao Kahn you have to be relentless with the blade shredder move. He's very aggressive and it becomes his undoing.
I'm glad I could help and that you earned your achievement.

I'm having a hell of a time beating Kitana. She's the fourth opponent I think. Usually I can get her with the shredder towards the beginning of the first round, but then she keeps throwing her fan when I try to do it and I can't block it cause I'm shredding the air. Any tips?

For Shao Kahn, I used a turbo button and spammed Baraka's blade shredder move. Do not stop with the shredder move, as Shao Kahn will just continuously walk into it.

That is all I did the entire match. No moving, jumping, kicking, etc, just the blade shredder move non-stop. I beat Shao Kahn quickly and every time doing this.

Don't show your hand too early. Basically work on timing the move as she's approaching you. If you do the shredder move to early, some enemies will react to that and attack in different ways. Just like Kitana is doing with her fan throw.
You can always briefly do something different to make the computer player break out of it's current move cycle. Like jump kicking her or doing some blade sparks. Then go back to shredding.
If all else fails, just stand still and hold the block button until you see her getting really close to you. Remember you can always do any special move's direction taps while holding the block button down. Then just as you release the block button, press whatever button you need for the move you're trying to do.

MK2 is, by far, the bitch of the bunch in this collection.

I used Jax for every normal fighter (up to and including Shang Tsung). If you can get a bit of distance and then jump in with a kick (up/forwards + Y) and then instantly spam the block button, you have a chance of hitting them with the kick AND doing an air throw. Four of those and your enemy is toast.

Jax's only other useful attack in that grab. Forward, forward + A. Spam A after for up to five punches. Useful if the AI starts blocking out your jump kick.

I then switched to Sub-Zero for Kintaro. HERE'S THE THING: get into the edge of the screen and do what you can to freeze Kintaro. Jump over him and push him against the side of the screen and then spam low punches (A). He cannot deal with it. You'll take him down to zero.

Shao Kahn is the ultimate prick. However, if you can get distance on him. Liu Kang's low fireball F, F + A wrecks him. It puts you out of danger for his projectiles and it does chip damage if he blocks. You'll need a little luck, but this tactic WORKS.

Note:

I played on 'Very Easy'. I recommend starting your MK2 attempt from the dashboard. It might help with the glitchiness of this achievement.

Ok I found a method that easily got me through MK2 twice(because the achievement didn't pop the first time). I recommend choosing Liu kang and constantly use his flying kick( forward forward y) as soon as u hit the ground or your opponent do it again. This should cause the AI to constantly duck under your attack making it impossible for them to hit you and allowing you to make contact a few times. NOTE: once you get to fight five or six you WILL lose the 1st time due to the AI blocking instead of ducking but once you continue they will revert to ducking again. For Shang tsung I suggest the jax method mentioned above of jump kicks and block button. For kintaro I suggest the subzero method mentioned above. And finally for shao Kahn I suggest Liu kanga low fireball method mentioned above. Good luck!!!

You should check out this video. It shows how to finish MK2. Video was not made by me. It was made by TerryxMasters so all credit goes to him. Also everything works but I also found easier way to defeat Shao Kahn- just keep spamming Raiden tornado move. He will block it but will take some damage and he wont do anything when you are rolling back so just keep spamming it again and again.

I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but I was going to fly through all the single players on very easy so I could focus on actually enjoying playing the versus with my friends.

Very easy worked for MK but not for MKII or UMK3. I had to do this on normal difficulty to get the cheevo... not that anything really changed about the way the AI cheaps out.

The first person you play will fall for your special moves (like the ice projectile of Sub-zero) - but after that, they seem to duck or jump it EVERY time, making most of the special moves nigh unto useless. The game reverted into a jump-kick and sweep scenario.

Raiden's torpedo push works sometimes and, yes, Baraka's blades were very useful as well. Sometimes Sub-zero's ground freeze works, too - but, like I said: jump-kick and sweep.

I found Mileena and Kintaro to be the most difficult until I found the sweet-spot for jump kicks. I found that, walking towards them and jump-kicking a little closer than the typical jump-kick worked really well.

You know you've got it right with Mileena when she tries to jump up and throw her sais at you and you get the kick in just before she can throw them every time.

With Kintaro, kick late. He will try to do an uppercut and miss while YOU connect.

These obviously aren't perfect solutions, but they work more frequently than not.

I spammed Shao Kahn with Raiden's lightning and torpedo pushes. I could usually blast two lightning shots before trying a torpedo push. Also not a perfect solution, but worked for me twice (considering I had to run it twice when "very-easy" didn't pop the cheev).

Good luck. MKII was the most frustrating and swear-inducing of the three for me. Just thought I'd throw out a few things that helped me.

Select Mortal Kombat II from the main menu and fight your way up the ladder until you've defeated all kombatants. Shao Khan is the final boss.

Mortal Kombat II is a BITCH. Let's get that out of the way first of all.
The other two games are hard, this will have you crying in a corner. It not only knows your moves but it knows your next THREE moves before you've even thought of them.

TIPS:
Most of the characters will quite happily walk into your sweep in the early matches if you shuffle around for a second while they're down, then sweeping them again while they attempt to get up.

I found that most of the cast were quite happy to walk into Baraka's Blade Shredder too when walking backwards. Baraka is also a great character to use as you can jump back against the wall and punch them in the face and then follow this up with his Blade Swipe move.

Shang Tsung: I found the best way to kill Shang Tsung was to jump around the screen and kick him while he's vulnerable. Jump kick him while he's jumping towards you or sending a fireball your way. Just keep moving constantly over him. Confuse him.

Kintaro: Kitana's Air Wave is great use here if you jump in to Kintaro and input the move as he's blocking, you'll land and lift him straight away. As he's floating, jump towards, land, then uppercut. You'll catch him on the way down. You must have good timing for this but practice makes perfect and it's a surefire way to win.

Shao Khan: I got a double flawless on Shao Khan by doing Baraka's Blade Shredder constantly. He just walked into it every time.

What a pain in the rear. MKII is the toughest Mortal Kombat ever. Period. You can formulate your own strategy that works for you but here are the two top tips if you are stuck.

+ Kitana's fan move can be exploited. It's a must during the Kintaro fight some say.

+ Baraka's blade move can also be exploited. Timed right and enemies will walk right into it.

The only fights that should give you trouble are possibly Kitana and definitely Kintaro. Study the Fan method in various videos if you need help. Once you master that technique it can be used to flawless Shao Kahn afterwards.

Complete Mortal Kombat II. There are 14 matches. The method for this game is the same as the first. Use a combination of jumping kicks, sweeps (+) and Raiden's Superman move (, , ). The AI is extremely cheap in this game however. They will spam projectiles at you almost constantly. They will also throw you during a move if you're too close. Keep your distance and try to block projectiles. You shouldn't jump at all when fighting characters that can fire projectiles in the air (Lui Kang, Kitana, and Mileena).

Battling Kintaro: There is a way to not take a single hit during this entire battle. As the fight starts jump forward and kick him. As soon as you land take a step back, jump forward again and kick him again. You should hit him as soon as the animation for his uppercut starts. Keep doing this until the fight is over. The timing for this can be tricky. For whatever reason, I found that tapping the back button, jump button and kick button worked better than holding them.

Battling Shao Khan: This is the easiest battle there is. When you reach this point, lose on purpose and select Mileena. Simply continue to do her Teleport Kick move (, , ). He will either block it or he will taunt and get hit by it. Either way, keep doing it and the fight is yours.

I will only speak about how to defeat Kintaro:
I tried for nearly 2 hours, then i noticed that if you jump forward to kintaro and wait a moment before pressing the kick button, he will try to punch you with un uppercut but he won't because your kick will hit him.
Instead if you jump at him and kick together he will probably block your attack and hit you.
Keep stay down till he gets closer and do my trick. It will take some tries but for me it worked in 2-3 tries for me.
I used shang tsung, but haven't used any of its special attacks.

Hope it helped!

*I found out xx Hollywood discovered this before me, but i noticed this only after i posted this guide

Shao Kahn can be defeated just as easily if at the very beginning of the round you step back all the way, sit in the corner, put a block and after each “ram” you do an uppercut with your shoulder.

get ready, this part is the most difficult of the three.

I personally completed the ladder for Baraka, he has excellent techniques ( + And + ) but on Shao Kahn I took Kitana and spammed + ! he himself comes up to “rise into the air” and then strikes from a jump and starts again

Against Kintaro, take Kitana and drive him into a corner with an air kick. There you use two techniques Fan Lift (<, <, <, x) and >, >, x+a where she throws the fan. And against Shao Kahn everything is simpler - take Liu Kang and jump into the distance and spam >, >, a (throw the lower fireball).
