How to unlock the Dropping Fools achievement in Mortal Kombat X - Definitive Guide
Check out the alternative solution below @GUTSY NINJA MJP created which requires 6 people.
For the 1v1 Ranked match solution:
1. Load game up
2. Online
3. Versus
4. Ranked Match
The win streak doesn't break when you either quit the game off the Xbox Home screen (that is guide button > start > quit) or pressing the off button.
(Make sure you do it quick enough to be safe). Managed to do it on 'Finish Him' a couple times.
Update: 26th April 2015
@Dogsoup mentioned this achievement unlocking for him doing team ranked battles, so it was able to verify them. Haven't tried this myself, maybe this helps out on the solution a bit?
Update: 18th May 2015
Personally I would recommend the off button method since some have reported the quitting method hasn't worked every time..(Maybe they're not doing it quick enough).
Apologise for supporting this solution in the way it can be achieved, but I'm just supporting @uhKillswitch 's point on this solution. Some people may prefer to do this legit whereas some will do whatever it takes. If you wanna save time....then yeah ^.
Please let me know if there's anything I can add.
My solution just got hidden due to all the negative votes :(
REQUIREMENTS FOR BOOSTING
6 players. (make a xbl party)
2 of the players searching while the rest of the party wait on the menu's.
once the 2 that are searching get put in the same lobby you want to go to the party and invite the players who are waiting on the menu. this is quicker than them searching so it reduces the chances of the slot being filled by a random player.
if you have all 6 players in the same lobby you and have decided which team will get 10 first you will have one player on the losing team quit the game (dashboard quit) during the 3rd match which in doing so will reset the wins on the lobby allowing 3 more matches to be played before it ends. so when the quitting player gets invited back in you can do the same thing again until the winning team all have 10.
as long as 1 player on the losing team quits during the 3rd match every time you will obtain this achievement in 1 lobby. however one player on the winning team will need extra wins so on his final match one of the other players on the losing team will quit to reset the lobby then its just rinse repeat for the other team.
P.S if this solution is bad please leave me a comment as to why you think so. I respect all feedback.
Solution: Boosting ranked matches with a friend.
What you will be doing is playing at some ridiculous hour so the fewest people (mainly Brazilians) will be playing. I did this at about 230am PST.
First you get both of you at the Versus > Player vs Player > ranked matches screen.
Then you both search at the same time.
What happens is generally (not all the time) if you search at the same time and there are not many people on it will match you and your friend up.
This is where it gets tricky. You have to communicate when the game says "opponent found" with your friend. If the game tells you "opponent found" but not your friend you are not matched up. Also your friend will get "opponent found" but you wont, thus you are not matched up. If that happens you will want to quickly hit the "b" button to back out of that search and search again. You will know you are matched up when you both say "opponent found" at the same time.
Now while doing this we sometimes had it both tell us opponent found at the same time and we waited and we were matched with different people. At that point play the match and see if you can win. If you can win fantastic one more done, if not quit to dashboard on the "finish him" screen and you will not receive a loss. I ended up having to do 3 legitimate matches and lost all 3, but I did the quit technique and kept my streak alive. When we did it for my friend we did 10 in a row without anyone interrupting us.
There is one other important note. The game tells you "you can not rematch in ranked matches." We found the best luck to get rematched is to exit all the way out of the game (quit to dashboard, press menu button, close application) after every match.
Some times we ended up resetting our MAC address if it took too long to match us up. I am not sure if any of that matters or helps, but we did it and we got the achievements.
I will say though, that the 'opponent found' text meant nothing for us. We backed out to ranked screen after each pairing, counted down to search at the same time, and one player (in this case) will always get the joining match text....so if the other player gets this text, back out as it means your being paired with someone else.
MK9 was a nightmare.
Here was my basic strategy...
1. I was mostly just jumping & uppercutting or combo jumping & hitting in mid air and then upper cutting because I don't know any of the real moves.
2. I made it a point to get that first hit in using the strategy above. The first hit gives you a nice boost towards the X-Ray move.
3. If I was able to pull off getting enough for the Xray move in first round I would try and pull it off. I never used it in the second unless I was sure I could get it in and it would finish the round. I was mostly saving the 2nd xray move until the 3rd round and trying to pull it off early to give a solid advantage.
Good luck.
After every ranked win, I'd upload my Player Settings file to the cloud (or USB). After every loss, I'd redownload the latest save. My ranked streak never got above the legit 3 I had before, but after 10 wins, and about 30 losses interspersed between them, it finally popped, so it appears the streak counter is in the local save file, not on their servers.
To upload/save your file, go to the dashboard and Settings->Application Saved Data Management->Saved Data in System Storage->Upload to Online Storage->Mortal Kombat X->Player Settings->Upload->Yes when prompted to overwrite.
To download/restore your file, go to the dashboard and Settings->Application Saved Data Management->Saved Data in Online Storage->Download to System Storage->Mortal Kombat X->Player Settings->Download->Yes when prompted to overwrite.
You can use either Online/Cloud storage or a local USB drive. Maybe I just have a bad USB drive, but it took about 5 minutes for USB saving, and 4 seconds for the cloud.
First of all, get a friend and start a 1v1 ranked match roughly at the same time with them. I've done it with a friend who was in a nearby region, but we sometimes matched on "Same Region" and most of the time we matched on "Worldwide" so it can be pretty random. I also recommend playing at a time where there's less people. It worked best for us at about 7-8PM GMT. We still encountered a few people though.
Lastly and most importantly, if you pair with someone other than your friend make sure to Alt+F4. Do this as soon as you see their name pop up on screen and you should be fine. Even if you get the option to decline the challenge, close the game with Alt+F4 because if you run into them again, it'll usually start the match instantly anyway.
Other than that, it just takes some luck and patience! On one of the attempts you should choose Bo' Rai Cho and win without getting a 4-hit combo (so just do uppercuts or something) to get the "Lands-Down" achievement.
One possible way to boost it is to search for a match at the very same time as your boosting partner. If you are lucky, you will land in the same session. Use a headset or live chat to coordinate your search for matches.
Luckily there is a trick to unlock this trophy, thank to BlackDevil990 for confirming the USB save trick still works for this one. With it, you would back up your save game on a USB device after every win, and if you lose, you load your save game back onto your console.
Here are the steps using the USB trick (Thanks to Hawks1523):
Step 1. Go to online -> Versus -> Ranked match
Step 2a. If you WIN, go back to main online menu. Press the PS button go to [Settings] -> [Application Saved Data Management] -> [Saved Data in System Storage] -> [Upload to Online storage] OR [Copy to USB Storage] -> [Mortal Kombat X] -> PLAYER SETTINGS -> Upload.
Step 2b. If you LOSE, go back to main online menu. Press the PS button go to [Settings] -> [Application Saved Data Management] -> [Saved Data in Online Storage] -> [Download to System Storage] -> [Mortal Kombat X] -> PLAYER SETTINGS -> [Download]. Yes to overwrite
Quitting a game in the character selection screen doesn’t work (counts as a loss for you).
Ranked matches are found under the 1v1 area of the Online menu. To unlock this achievement you must win 10 ranked fights in a row by whatever means you can. To do this legitimately will require some amount of skill and a lot of practice with your preferred fighter.
However, as of right now there is an exploit to make obtaining this achievement a little easier. This exploit requires you to dashboard then completely quit out of the game when your opponent gets to the 'Finish Him' screen, so essentially you have already lost, doing this will preserve your win streak and the loss will not be attributed to you. Please note though that using this method will also not credit your opponent with a win on their streak.
NOTE: If you do choose to employ this exploit you will still have to win 10 matches legitimately, all it does is preserve your streak.
The exit of opponents does not give victory either. You may have to fight more than 10 times.
If you don’t feel well against living opponents (like me, for example), then do this:
1. We won, copied the save to a flash drive or to the cloud.
2. If you lose, then load the save file back.
3. If you win, then copy the save again.
We repeat until we get the trophy.
