How to unlock the Respected Fighter achievement in Mortal Kombat X - Definitive Guide
Edit May 18, 2018: It seems that this can be done with only 2 people now (thanks ParadoxReal8 for the info).
This is what you should do:
1) One player is appointed as host and creates a Room (it has to be public). To do that, you go to Online > Rooms and press X to create a new room. You will be asked to enter a name for the room. My advice would be to choose a name that will not show up at the top of the list so that fewer randoms see it & therefore join in. In my case, I had a TA session set up to do this, so I used "ta session" as room name.
2) Once the room is created, the remaining 7 players go to Online > Rooms and look for that room on the list and then press A on the name of the room to join.
3) When all 8 players are in the room, the host selects the 7 players that joined (this is done one by one) and presses A on each of their names to challenge them. They will be added to a new list that is shown on the right (only the host sees this).
4) When all players have been added, the host selects any of the other 7 players on the list that was created on Step 3 above, and presses A to challenge that player. Make sure you choose "Survivor" (yes, it counts as long as it's a public room), as this is only one round per fight (you deal a little less damage in this mode, but it's still faster than two rounds dealing more damage). This will join everyone to the match (Finally!!)
5) After a while (it can take up to 1 full minute I think, or it seemed so) the lobby is created and you will see the fight screen on the left (larger) and a sort of snap screen on the right with all 8 players. It will be organized like this:
Player 1
Player 2
Observer 1
Observer 2
Observer 3
Observer 4
Observer 5
Observer 6
And now we're talking! Players 1 & 2 fight, and at the end of the fight, a wheel will appear for all 6 observers and they will be asked to give their respects. Make sure you select 10 each time (with the left stick and pressing A) and be aware that you only have a limited time to give respect. Selecting the number can be flaky, what worked best for me to prevent the stick from moving to other numbers was to hold it on the desired number and press A before releasing the stick. Respect points go to the winner of the fight only.
After this process, Player 1 will be moved to the bottom of the list and become Observer 6, Player 2 will become Player 1, Observer 1 will become Player 2 and everyone else will move one step up the ladder.
To make things easier, what we did was always have Player 2 win. That way you make sure that everyone will get some respect should connection or other issues strike.
I found the fastest character to be Kung Lao with his Forward + B kick, if done fast you will get the win at 77 on the counter. Each full round takes about 10 minutes if everyone uses him and no one is messing around. That would be 60 respect each in 10 minutes, or 360 each in 1 hour, so in 4 hours everyone can get 1000 respect & their achievement and even allow for some connection issues.
Connection issues
You or someone in your group are likely to experience connection issues at some point and be kicked from the lobby. If that happens, the player that dropped will be put in a lobby by himself and a waiting or connecting message will appear. In that case, you (the kicked player) should go back to the menu, go to Online > Rooms like before, find the room, join, press A on the name of any of the other players and press A again on the "Join Survivor" option. This should have you re-join the lobby and you'll be able to resume from there. If you were kicked when it was your turn to win and you hadn't been put on the Player 1 position yet, then you'll lose the respect from that fight (and only that fight). If this happens, I would recommend keeping the same method of Player 2 winning every time and make up for any connection losses at the end (see why below).
If after joining the room and pressing A on the name of any of the other players you get a message that says something along the lines of "waiting for connection" and the "join survivor" option doesn't appear, quitting the game and relaunching it might do the trick. One of the observers can also send an invite to the kicked player (I think this is done with LT, don't remember exactly). Or you might be out of luck sadly. You can always try and create a new room entirely, it would be up to the group and probably to be considered as an option depending on how far along you are.
Finally (yes!!), not everyone will hit 1000 at the same time, so when someone does get to 1000, you can enter AFK to make things faster. The AFK (Away From Konsole) mode will skip you when it's your turn to fight but you will still be able to give respect points, so this is really neat :) This is why you make up for any respect points lost at the end, and also because there might be other players that lose points further along the session.
I hope this is useful, let me know if you need clarification on anything here, as it's not difficult to boost but the getting ready process is rather cumbersome and a bit hard to detail.
Creating a room DOES NOT WORK and hasn't worked for some time now. YOUR BEST OPTION is to grab some friends and/or a dummy account and jump into KOTH survivor. There aren't many players left so you should get a solo lobby. If you do get players you'll either have to beat them out your lobby or pick a time to play when no one is on.
This method worked the fastest for me as my respect points were at 76 when i started and I completed the achievement in about 4 hours with my dummy, myself and a friend. We also started to use Alien acidic and spammed acid in the corner, worked like a charm!
For better results, boosting with just 3 players is the recommended step. It's important to note that to gain respect points, you need to play in Player Matches because Private Matches don't work for this. Thanks to BlackDevil990 and ExtremeGamer for confirm this information.
Important: Bear in mind that the servers are Region Locked so you can't boost with players in another region in the world i.e. US and EU. They have separated rooms in the game so you want to ask for help just with players in your same region.
Keep trading wins between each other, and the 3rd player must give 10 points every time to the winner.
Boosting with more people sounds better at first, but waiting for your turn to gain more points at the same time can be very boring, but the Vita can help meanwhile. It's up to you.
To gain 1,000 points, you need to win, complete and receive 10 points in 100 KOTH games, so if you want to unlock some trophies in the same road you can focus on Return Kustomer and Unstoppable trophies at the same time with two partners.
Warning: there have been many reports of losing points after a long session of boosting, so take this in mind and farm your points in a short periods of time, back out to the lobby and see if your points are there or they are gone. The game needs a patch to fix this issue, so it's possible to have it in the near future.
Thanks to Ultima MG for the following steps of how to boost without randoms:
You do not need a full group of 8 to prevent randoms from joining.
How To:
- Bring all boosters into a Playstation Party Chat
- Create a room (Rooms sub-menu, use to create a room)
- Have everyone in the party chat "join session" on the host
- Host selects another player to challenge to KOTH/Survival
- During the invite players section, you can add/remove slots with /
- Allow for only enough slots to accommodate your number of players
- Send Challenge
- Start your boosting session
According with Kaimaerah you can also boost this trophy while playing KOTH Survivor:
The Respected Fighter trophy can be boosted with 2 people. I did this with an alt earlier today using mostly player match koth survivor. Making a room can be obnoxious because while you can limit the slots you can only limit them to 3 slots so an empty slot will be there if there's only 2 boosting and I had more issues with randoms joining that way. I had someone join 4 times while boosting the trophy but went an average of 20-25 matches done before a random joined. I backed out both the alt and myself and waited about 10 mins before trying again.
Go to "Online" - "Rooms" then press to Create a Room. Name it something innocuous like TT KOTH so your friends will recognize it's yours. Alternatively, you can simply enter an empty room with a friend and proceed from there.
Once you're all in, highlight a friend and press and highlight KOTH. Press again and press or to add or remove slots to the amount of people you're hosting. The minimum amount of slots that can be made in a room is 3, so if you're boosting with only 1 other person, there's a chance a random will join. If that happens, you can simply back out of the room and go to another empty room or create another one. Once done, press and you'll begin your KOTH matches.
You can simply just be a winner and have each person grant you 10 Respect points each time, or take turns winning and losing to break any monotony.
At the end of every KotH match you win, the other players in the room, as long as there are three or more, will be given the option to award you respect points for your performance. The total is cumulative and will amass throughout your online career as you win more and more KotH matches. Once you reach 1000 points the achievement will unlock.
Alternatively this achievement can be boosted with a minimum of three players. Once you have found your boosting partners, you again need go to the Rooms option of the Online menu. From the next screen, press to create your own room. Restrict the player size to however many is in your boosting group and have your partners join you. Now you just need to all alternate wins whilst the spectators award you 10 respect points per win. The larger your group the longer you will have to wait between your fights, taking this into account it may be optimal to boost this using just three players, another benefit to this is that you will unlock both "Return Kustomer" and "Unstoppable" along the way. If you do not have any friends who own the game you can find people to play with HERE.
The trophy is made according to the plan below and read carefully!!!
To obtain this trophy, it is advisable to assemble a group of 8 people.
We go to the network - Rooms. We create a room and invite 7 more people. It is from the room you created that we select one of your comrades by pressing . Next, select the CG and, by selecting the remaining players, fill out the column on the right. If you are less than 8 people, you need to press keys close extra cells so that no one else can join your game. Next, press the options key and the game will automatically send an invitation to all your partners. Your partner must accordingly accept this invitation. And also in the room when creating a session, do not set any additional settings in the menu on the left (matching players in the room should be set to “NO”)
Then you find yourself in a closed session, where there will be eight of you and you begin to level up one player. One hits with an uppercut, the second stands as “meat”, the rest give 10 points for victory to the winning player. If you don’t do fatalities and brutalities and other beautiful atrocities, then the game, taking into account the loads and scoring, takes 2 minutes and, accordingly, 60 points (provided that there are eight of you). We pumped with all of us and scored 1000 points for each player in about 40 minutes (taking into account the stupidity of some players, or when someone’s hand was shaking, they accidentally put fewer points or skipped voting altogether. By the fifth hour of the boost, everyone was going crazy). Accordingly, we knocked out all seven in about 5 hours.
PS
Left players can enter your room, it’s not scary. The main thing is, when you select your players from the room, choose your own ones and if there are less than eight of you, then be sure to close the extra cells. Then left players will not be able to get into your session. If one of the players flies out, then you can all leave and start creating everything again. If someone's Internet is lagging, then you can not participate in battles in a circle. Click options and you will see a 3-letter abbreviation on the left. You won't play in this mode, but you can give ratings. Periodically look at the statistics of the player who scores 1000 points. There is real magic happening there. Some points don’t count, or they don’t accumulate in statistics at all. If the statistics are up. We go out and do it all over again.
