How to unlock the Outstanding! achievement in Mortal Kombat - Definitive Guide
What you need: two memory units (I used a hdd and a memory card).
Play a ranked game online and when you get your first win, allow it to save then go to the dashboard. From here, go into your memory settings and copy your "Player Settings" save from your main memory unit to your secondary memory unit.
Play another ranked match and if you win, copy your main "Player Settings" save to your secondary memory unit (select "Yes" when it prompts the overwrite). If you lose, copy/overwrite your "Player Settings" save from your secondary memory unit to your primary. This is what preserves your streak even if you lose!
If somebody disconnects from you, it doesn't count towards your wins and it doesn't break your streak. If you get a disconnect, just play another match.
Your online stats will show what is correct (wins, losses, streak, etc.) but using this tactic your save will think you have never broken your streak! For example, my best streak shows as 4 on the leaderboards but I was still able to obtain the achievement for the 10 streak by using this method.
If you are halfway decent with a single fighter, this is the best method to obtain this achievement while allowing those that beat you to claim their wins. If you get beat, be respectful and take the loss because you'll still be able to get your 10 wins in a row!
Thanks for looking!
If you're a child who loves rage quitting and ruining other people's online experience, give this guide a negative vote! When you kids keep anonymously trashing those that are only trying to help you, soon you'll find that nobody will want to help the community (you) anymore.
* Despite disconnects counting on your stats, they do not count towards this achievement. However, they do not halt its progress either. Its as if the match never happened.
* It doesn't not have to be in one play session
I can confirm this, as when I earnt the achievement it went like this :
Won 5 in a row.
6th person disconnected as I did fatality (stats now show 6 streak)
Won 4 in a row (stats now show 10 streak)
11th person disconnected (stats show 11 streak)
Won 1
Achievement popped
So the achievement didn't pop until after I had hit 10 wins without any disconnects.
My cheevo popped at 12 streak, which proves the 2 d/c's didn't count.
So, if someone quits out on you, unfortunately it won't count for the achievement.
*A general tip I'd like to give, is not to spam moves. Not because its cheap, but because a semi decent player will nail you. Block is your friend. If your lucky, you'll run into spammers. Let them spam Smoke/Scorpions teleport punch, let them spam Kabals dash....just block, and take a free uppercut. Being defensive is far more productive than spamming attacks in my opinion.
The great thing about this Mortal Kombat, is you can really pick your spots. Wait for an opening before you attack. Know the opponents character, and within 10 seconds of the first round starting you will know what kind of player he is.
This achievement may prove tricky, because every now and again us average gamers will run into a master, and that usually spells trouble!
Due to this game being difficult to boost i just started playing legit and got decent with scorpion so its good to have someone your comfortable with in case the "S**T hits the fan".
These are the details:
GAME MODE: 1 vs 1
1st streak = 8
1 loss (just as he beat me i turned my xbox of "thought it was worth a try,) however my stats then included 1 more loss and streak had ended.
2nd streak = 2
At the end of my second win the achievement popped.
My stats still read:
BEST STREAK= 8 therefore 2 streaks worked luckily i might add. not really a solution but thought it may prove helpful just in case people gave up. hope this helps.
The quitting method works absolutely fine.
I tried starting my streak in Tag-Mode but having to know two characters and having to know/counter two enemies' combos doesn't really make this easier.
So after a few tries I got back to 1vs1 playing Kano.
Kano is a quite unpredictable fighter with precious moves like his rolls, an airthrow and good and powerful combos. But of course feel free to pick the fighter of your choice.
Just take a look at your wins in the statistics. You'll need (in case you have no streak going at the moment) 10 wins more.
Everytime your about to lose just quit the match. It's your choice if you do that by quitting the match, dashboard-quitting or powering down your XBox. All of those options work and DON'T count the match for this cheevo. Don't bother what your statistics say, just focus on "wins + 10". Your streak counter resets when you quit out of the match but for the achievement the streak continues.
Next point I couldn't really figure out from the above solutions:
WHEN TO QUIT!?
During my 10 wins my max streak was 3, so I lost more matches than the 10 matches I won.
During my losses I first stuck with powering down my XBox before "Finish Him" but some close matches I also quit DURING "Finish Him" and there was even a match that I quit AFTER my opponent hit me on the "Finish Him"-screen (I guess he didn't know his Fatality-input, so he just hit me and I was quitting so late that I could even watch him hitting me).
So:
You DON'T NEED to quit BEFORE "Finish Him".
You don't even need to quit before the opponent hits you on the "Finish Him"-screen.
Just make sure you're out of the match before the game returns you to the lobby.
I have those 10 wins and not a single one more, and except one win I did all of them today in one sitting and I've tried every kind of quitting and tried the full timing window when to quit (from in the middle of the round till after the opponent hit you on the "Finish Him"-screen.
NONE of those quits breaks your streak for the achievement - it breaks only tht streak counter in your statistics.
The achievement is easier than i thought.
1 - Find a friend that wants help you.
2 - Select a time of the day in which you think there are few players (i've unlocked it today at 18:00 in italy, because at this time there are no players from the other countries, such as U.S.A).
Erase your friend from your list and put him like "prefer this gamer", i've noticed that by this way I found my buddy almost everytime.
now the boosting can start: search a ranked 2v2 match, if you don't find your buddy simply back out during character select. You will lose the match but your winstreak doesn't stop.
Play with your buddy until you win 10 matches.
Achievement unlocked.
1. You can do madmankevin solution if you don't have a boosting partner or just want to play legit.
2. You have a boosting partner. If you have a buddy to help you the method I recommend is this:
-The player that is LOSING should search for a RANKED TAG MATCH. Tag matches have less traffic than 1v1 matches.
-If the LOSING player does not get a game with a random within about 5 seconds, then the WINNING player should search for a RANKED TAG MATCH. You should then match up together.
-If either players (WINNING or LOSING) happens to get paired up with a random then just wait until the CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN and simply hit to back out to the Xbox Live menu. It will warn that "Backing out will result in a loss." However, this will NOT break the win streak for the WINNING player. Doing this will save time and the headache of turning the console off or trying to dashboard.
-Once you and your boosting partner get paired up simply pick any fighters you want to use. When the match starts the WINNING player just needs to beat the LOSING player however they see fit.
-After the match is over just rinse and repeat until the WINNER player gets 10 wins and the achievement.
I also recommend maybe doing the matches like this to get the other online achievements in the process (excluding 100 wins and King of the Hill matches):
Match 1: WINNING player should NEVER JUMP the whole match, do 8 throws () and let the timer run out. In round 2 just do some damage to the LOSING player and let the time run out again. The LOSING player shouldn't do anything. Just stand there and take a beating. This will result in getting the WINNER:
Match 2: LOSING player should beat one of the WINNING players fighters and get the 2nd fighter down to 10% health. Just be careful and do simple punches/kicks and no combos when getting down to the low health. LOSING player should stop and then let the WINNING player fight back and beat him. If the WINNING player doesn't get the "I'm Not Dead Yet!" achievement after the 1st round then try again for the 2nd round. The WINNING player should get the win and the achievement when the match is over.
Matches 3-10: Have the WINNING player beat the LOSING player as you see fit. At the end of the 10th match the WINNING player will get
In ranked matches your going to sooner or later run across a guy who's a straight up beast at the game ultimately ruining your streak. So as states above play tag matches. Most of the time in tag the players are only good with one of their characters or are just messing around.
PRACTICE!! practice with whatever 2 characters you feel comfortable with. My choices were smoke and reptile in that order. Go into practice mode and learn their combos but also set different opponents so you can learn to defend against them.
After beating this guy who clearly was only messing around i went to recent players and preferred him and got paired up with him 4 matches in a row. Luck? maybe but it doesn't hurt.
Wait to use xray! This saved my ass more times then i can tell you. this was my strategy and it worked pretty well. I would always pay attention to their blocking habits. I normally would through the smoke ball thing and they would block it but immediately after throwing it i'd use xray because they would drop their guard. Not saying its necessary just some tips.
Those were my tips that lead me to get the achievement. Hope something in their helps out. It can be a frustrating achievement.
Ok there's a lot of guides on how to unlock this achievement but from what I could tell reading them they all date back when the game was normally playable and there were no major matchmaking and connection stability issues. This is the definitive guide I present to the players who wish to achieve this on the present day, as the date I post this solution, 04/17/2020, based on my experience playing this game online nowadays.
Before we start I must warn everyone reading this that this achievement will be a test of patience more than anything else. It took my boosting partner and I approximately 15 hours to get the achievement for both of us, 8 hours and a half for him and something around 6 hours for me, so be prepared to what's coming. Now to the solution:
First of all you need to find someone you have a somewhat decent connection with, considering how unstable it is even if you're both on the same region. I first tried to boost the respect points with a friend on the same region as me, South America-Brazil, and we couldn't for the life of us to stay connected not even once for 1 single match, and we were using the "Sans Power Kode" that kills the opponent in 1 hit. We tried a few times on different days and different times but the connection just wouldn't let us do anything, not a single tiny little private KotH match, he'd always disconnect immediately after joining my lobby and I disconnected his every time I joined him. It might have been internet speed and/or quality on either my end or his or just the instability the game presents nowadays, I don't know, bottom line is we quit boosting with each other.
I joined a session for the online achievements, the host was from Canada and luckly he was a player I could connect long enough to finish at least 1 KotH match. We'd fight, give the respect points and when the new king was elected before we could select the fighters again the connection would drop. We kept boosting points like that for a while, only one match at a time and we kept inviting each other after every dc until we decided to boost the ranked victories.
As I mentioned above find someone you can get a half-decent connection with, I'd say if you can complete a whole KotH private match with that person and give him/her the respect points at the end this is the one you wanna stick with. In my experience the canadian guy and I would stay connected for 1 entire KotH match and disconnected after giving the points, before we could start a new match. Sometimes the connection lasted for 2 or 3 consecutive matches, a couple times even 4 in a row but that's very rare, usually just the one match then disconnect before we could select the fighters again.
Although it might not seem much only one match with the power sans code enabled because the match ends so quickly and you might think you'll need more time to complete 2 rounds on a 2v2 ranked match, but while I was boosting with my partner the biggest problem was to find each other, once we got past the character selection and the loading map screen, when the match started we'd stay connect through the whole lenght of it and surprisingly enough on the ranked matches we almost never lagged and could even fight each other for real if we wanted. I even got all ranked related achievements boosting with him, such as "Win a ranked match without jumping", "Win both rounds of a ranked match by time out", "Perform 8 throws in a ranked match" and "Win by a comeback with less than 10% health". I strongly recommend you go for these 4 achievements as well while boosting the 10 victories with your partner in case you don't have them yet.
Of course connection sometimes would fail during a match but usually the disconnect occurred either after the game says "opponent found" during the black screen transition between that message and the character selection screen OR while the match was loading. During a match it happened a few times but normally we managed to finish the fights once they started.
Now this is the part where your patience is really put to the test and you'll find out how long you can endure frustration. Follow these guidelines to optimize matchmaking results and work on your respect points at the same time.
1 - Start a party chat on xone if you both have the console or use the xbox app to verbally communicate. Don't even try to chat via 360 party because it doesn't work most of the times, you won't be able to connect to the other person so just spare yourselves the frustration and save time talking instead of messaging.
2 - Once you 2 have a steady communication line (xone or xbox app) start searching for a 2v2 ranked match. From my experience tag matches is the only mode you can get a match with other people. We tried 1v1 a few times but never found anything so stick with 2v2 all the way.
3 - I don't know if this helps matchmaking but you can submit an evaluation to the other player by going to his/her profile and make him/her a preferred player so feel free to do so. Depending on the time of the day you decide to boost this you can find your boosting partner more easily and find each other again faster each time you search for a new match. In my case when my partner was getting his wins it took us 8 hours and a half to succesfully find each other 10 times and complete the matches, which some were interrupted or didn't even start due to connection issues. On the following day we boosted my wins and connection was slightly better than the day before and within the first 2 hours we got to find each other 3 or 4 times in a row instantly one time. Of course some of these matches lost connection when they were about to start and others the connection dropped during the match but still the time we picked to boost my wins helped reducing the overall time spent to net the 10 victories.
4 - Sometimes you'll find each other almost instantly after a few seconds of search, which is great so if you do get to finish a fight, immediately start searching again because once you find someone the chances to get a rematch increases a little bit so if you're lucky enough you can find your partner 3 or 4 times in a row. It's not guaranteed you'll find your partner again instantly after finishing a ranked match, there's luck involved there so pray the Elder Gods you get to find your partner again quickly after a fight. Also when you're in the character selection screen don't even bother picking your favorite fighter, just select the ones the cursor initially is on and go straight to the fight. Once there just finish your opponent as quickly as possible using a basic 3 punch combo.
5 - Because the matchmaking is terribly awful you'll very often find yourselves searching for a while and don't find each other so if it starts taking too long to match up invite your partner to a private KotH match, it will help pair you up on a ranked match after having playing on a private one. Play until you 2 disconnect, which won't take long to happen. Like I mentioned before, with me and my partner usually it only lasted 1 match but if you're lucky enough to continue playing for 3 or 4 consecutive matches, good, keep going and work on your respect points as you go, just make sure you 2 enable the "Sans Power Kode" to end the matches quickly and take turns winning and giving your partner 10 respect points at the end of each match.
6 - After having fought on KotH go back to searching ranked 2v2 until you find each other again. Upon finding your partner and succesfully completing the match keep searching again so you have better chances of keeping matching up quickly. If it starts taking too long to match up again repeat steps 5 and 6 until you both get 10 straight victories.
KEEPING YOUR STREAK: If you find a random player while boosting with your partner, which I find very unlikely to happen but it still may happen, dashboard quit/turn off your xbox. Disconnects don't void your streak so if you log out/dashboard quit when you find a random YOU WON'T LOSE YOUR STREAK! Thank the Elder Gods! Even if you're in the middle of a match and your console freezes and you are forced to power it down YOU WILL STILL KEEP YOUR STREAK! The only way you lose your streak is if you actually lose a match so don't try to fight a random, EVER! for your own sanity sake. Also you don't need to get your 10 wins in one sitting on the same day, you can spread it out according to your availability and patience, like 2 or 3 matches a day, only one per day it doesn't matter, the important thing is you get 10 in a row no matter how many days it'll take.
NOTES: Although it might seem simple to go through this process there are a couple things that can annoy you and possibly make you wanna quit getting this achievement but if you're patient and persistent enough it's still possible to get there so I'll just warn you about these things so you know exactly what awaits you when boosting this:
* CONSOLE FREEZING!: I can absolutely confirm having played with 4 different people that when playing this game online YOUR CONSOLE WILL FREEZE CONSTANTLY! All the people that helped grinding the respect points and were trying to boost the ranked victories had their consoles frozen several times, myself included. I don't know why that happens but it does so when it starts happening to you don't freak out, just restart your console and resume boosting. The gap between a freezing and another not rarely isn't big so be prepared to turn your console on and off a lot within minutes when boosting this. Sometimes your screen will freeze and you might think you need to reboot it but not always it stays that way and the game continues running after a few seconds of frozen screen so before restarting your console give it a few seconds to see if it will return. Normally my cue to restart mine was when the music died so be aware of that.
* SERVERS NOT AVAILABLE and GAMING SESSION NOT AVAILABLE: On occasion you may see a message popping up saying the MK servers are not available when trying to enter the multiplayer lobby, it's not very common but still you might experience that, if that happens back out to the main menu and try to access the mp lobby again. If the problem persists dashboard quit and relaunch the game. Also sometimes when inviting your partner to a private match the message "gaming session no longer available" might appear so if that happens, again dashboard quit and restart the game, if you still can't join each other's private game try you both rebooting your consoles.
Well that's all the info I can provide to those who might want to venture themselves getting this achievement today, I sincerelly hope you're succesfull in your task and pray the elder gods you match up with your boosting partner quickly!
That's it for today, thank you and happy hunting!
Your current win streak is stored in your save file, not on your online statistics. This means if you have PS+ or a USB Flashdrive you can make a back up of your save file after each win. If you lose the fight, copy the backup back over to your console and keep trying.
If you win, update your backed up save and continue playing, while your online stats will accurately reflect your highest streak, the trophy pops when the console save file reaches 10 wins a row, so you can slowly reach this without fear of losing your streak or needing a boosting partner.
I don't know if UK, AUS, or other regions tend to stay up to 9 to 5 or limited at night, but the game is region-locked, so you won't play other regions. Taking advantage of when most people sleep might be the best way to get this, but still, prepare yourself!
I also suggest using a Vita to message people so you have somewhat of a keyboard to time things.
That's my best advice.
No longer possible due to server closure.
This can only be done in RANKED MATCHES and is not that hard as there is a trick that you can use to avoid your win streak from being broken. If you are about to lose a Ranked match, before your opponent drains your life, quickly press the and swipe down the game to close it quickly. This will count as a disconnect and a loss towards your statistics but your win streak will remain intact.
However on the other hand, if you are winning and your opponent quits in this fashion, you will get a win against your stats but it will NOT COUNT towards the trophy. Only wins from completed matches will count, so this may take you a while. With a bit of luck and playing opponents who don't rage quit on you when they lose, this trophy will unlock after your 10th completed Ranked win.
Defeat 10 consecutive opponents in an online Ranked Matches. If you're about to lose you can quit out and, although it will count as a loss in your stats, your streak will remain intact.
You can find a boosting partner here.
UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE
Boostable.
Follow the instructions provided by HiryuMK:
"... play Ranked Tag since more people play 1v1. One of us counted 3,2,1, Go and search Ranked Tag at the same time".
Another tough one because it's not easily boostable. I recommend trying to master one player! Playing matches online will train you. What I did was win 1-2 ranked in a row, then joined any room and won another 2-3 (not necessarily in a row here), then returned to ranked and won another 2-3 in a row and repeated the process until suddenly it popped. Remember it needs to be done in RANKED MATCHES; to be honest it took me like 1 hour and I did it with Kung Lao, but Scorpion, Milenna or Smoke will work too.
Also here is a tip from Ashwin10:
"I played TAG ranked matches because that's where all the beginners are at.. so I got up to 9 wins ok and then on the 10th round I almost got the win but that dude kept spamming Kitana's fan.. so just before he killed me or even the Finish him popped up.. I pulled out my MK disc without quitting. When I got back online and won my next game my trophy popped!! So this method works and doesn't count as a LOSS if you take the disk out before you lose"
You can press the button and go back to the XMB and it still works!
YouTube - Mortal Kombat / Outstanding! Trophy
* if your opponent disconnects, then the victories are not reset, but the last victory is simply not counted;
* if you see that you are doing poorly, then you can exit the game by pressing HOME and scrolling through the game. Then log back into the game. Yes, the battle is protected for disconnection, but the trophy counter will not reset all accumulated victories;
* when you are looking for an opponent and suddenly a “guy” pops up with victories over9999/0, you can again click on HOME and scroll through the game before the character selection window appears. In fact, there was no battle, and therefore there will be no consequences - the counter will not reset
Platinum in this game is something to be proud of!
Call me Trug. Next, go together to Ranked Match -> TAG. The likelihood that you will be put together 10 times is high, since there are almost no people in TAG Ranked Match. Well, if you put it with another person, then press the PS button and pull back the sheet.
