This is a fantastic video guide that I found that walks you through how to find the contraption that provides you with Obsidian Dark Form. Don't forget to be careful of the frogs in the area. Those little gremlins always gave me problems when I was doing my Obsidian runs.

Anyone else having trouble with this to pop the achievement? Started my foundling playthrough (save file 2) the other day (apparently during an achievement server outage) and did the process to become obsidian and all. However, no pop; so I have been reseting my save file 3 about 5 or 6 times, speedrunning the start, going to the tunnel, and darkening myself. And still no achievement, before and after the achievement outage. Am I missing something or am I being glitch-scammed by Michael Soft?

If anyone is still having trouble with this achievement I may have found a solution that at least worked for me. I am on Xbox and what I did was go into manage games and add-ons by clicking the start button on the game icon. I then scrolled down to saved data and deleted from console. This will not delete your save file permanently, all you have to do once you load back in is play through the beginning point of the game until you reach the statue. Then the achievement should pop up as it did for me.

So start a new game and play through the tutorial again and then go back to the shrine, or just load back in and run back? I started a new playthrough and it still didn't unlock for me.
I've tried the following and its not unlocking.
Tried deleting save, reloading and running straight back to shrine.
Tried deleting save and restoring backup save from before I visited the shrine.
Tried deleting save starting a new game, and running straight to shrine.
Tried starting a new game and picking up the first shell and running straight to the shrine.
Had I known there was unlocking issues, I would not have started playing nor bought the dlc. Just unlocked fine on one of my smurf account though.

For this achievement, you must interact with the shrine mentioned in "Life is Suffering" to renounce all shells and accept Obsidian Dark form. See that achievement for a video of the shrine's location.
