By default, races are set to ‘Only Race’ under Race Session which means you end up starting each race from last place. In order to start from Pole Position (1st place for anyone unfamiliar with racing), you will need to change the Race Session setting to ‘Qualifying and Race’. This will then start each race with a best of 14 qualifying session, followed by a best of 12 qualifying session, followed by a race. Your position in qualifying determines where you start on the grid, for the purposes of this trophy though, you’ll be aiming for 1st.

During each qualifying session, you will have 15 minutes to set a lap time with your fastest lap determining your position. In most cases you won’t need the whole 15 minutes. Instead, after you have set a lap time you’re happy with, you can press and Return to the Pit. From here, you can scroll across to the right and select Session Info. Here, you will be able to view everyone’s lap times. If your lap time is over two seconds faster than anyone else's, feel free to advance time by holding . Just make sure you don’t select ‘Skip to Race’ as you won’t start from Pole Position, even if you were in first place before selecting it. If you managed to finish both qualifying sessions in 1st place you should then be in 1st place at the start of the race. The trophy should unlock shortly after the race starts.
