You need another player to start the multiplayer race.
Go to Race > Multiplayer > Player Match to create a lobby.
Now invite your friend or let him use the quick match option, because there are no other online players anyway.
Make sure one of you unlock the 5 wins in row achievement. A 60 second countdown appear after one of the players cross the finish line. If you use a second xbox (like me) you can wait until the countdown ends, but with 2 players it's faster to finish the race to skip the minute. You need 2 minutes and 40 seconds to finish a race. (Cosby Coast)
2:40 x 5 = 12 minutes (without loading time)
