I would suggest trying to beat the long jump challenge on Devil's Playground. Use the bonus ATV and warp to the "grass hills" marker from the pause menu. Turn around, go Southeast and hug the right side of the mountain ridge to find the jump. You should land near the water where the rock arch is located.
Get a good run-up, keep you wheels on the ground and use the seat jump to get more distance (push right stick down and click right before you jump). The best I got was 311 feet (95 meters) and the worst was 285 feet (87 m).
If you don't have any friends who play this game, go play a couple games of multiplayer, send friend request to some higher level players and tell them you are trying to get the achievement.

I can confirm that indeed you CANNOT obtain this achievement using a Silver (Free) membership account. Even using a 48-hour trial will enable this achievement though, as well as online play, of course.

Is it a kind of a leaderboard with scores from all your friends (if yes, is it a way to see it and where?) or do you have to be playing together with a friend and beat their score on a specific challenge during the current session?

me and my friend were having a hard time with this achievement because we couldn't find any information about it on the internet other than this guide. first know one thing you can look at your record and your friend's just go to the "records" option in the customization menu and then go to "free ride challenges" knowing that now let's go to the achievement
your friend gonna set a record on any map for example he jumps and scores 50ft when he returns to the menu enter a match and score higher than his or beat his record as soon as you do this the achievement will unlock i hope i helped :)

Select single player and go to Free Ride. Your friend's records will posted on the bottom of the screen before selecting which Free Ride session you want. Beat one of their records and you will unlock this.

Under Free Ride Challenges you can see your friends’ best for each challenge. You need to beat your friends’ best record on one challenge.
