Bar banging occurs when you bump into another rider on the course. If you overtake your fellow rider after bar banging with them your rider will turn around and usually yell something as well as make a hand motion. When this occurs you know that you were successful.
Repeat this five times in one race and the achievement is yours.

Anyone else having problem with this unlocking? I've done 5+ bar banging overtakes 15 times, no achievement...

No, because you have to make sure you actually hit them. It’s not hard, you just aren’t hitting them enough.

"Bar Banging" is when you hit or bump into another racer and then overtake them. Your character will make some sort of gesture to the other racer.
Note: This is easiest done on the short tracks under single player as there tends to be lots of collisions on those tracks.
