How to unlock the Ribbon Cutting achievement in My Time At Portia - Definitive Guide
This all happens in due time but I would like to point out that putting things in the museum is only positive. Sure you "lose" the item forever by having it placed there, but you get reputation (I think it's called) for every donation. Also it seems that anyone who views what you put in, gives you positive favor with them. I was in the middle of the desert and I got 21~ favor with Albert because he viewed my sitting bucket head guy.

To Add to this Putting things in the Museum always benefits you. Notably you are given rewards after putting so many things into it.
Notably at 10 items you get your own Recovery Machine so you don't have to keep going to the Research Lab to get your Relics assembled, and at 30 Donations you get the Recipe for Safety Box which stores 60 Items per Box- the Current Largest Storage Item in the game.

I guess Tree Farm watering and The Lift are prerequisites to get the Museum.
