How to unlock the Selenitic achievement in Myst - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for getting back to Myst from Selenitic. Selenitic is the Age inside the Rocket Ship on the left of the Library.

TL;DR version (on Classic):

Getting to Selenitic:

Once in Selenitic:

Detailed Guide:

This is a detailed guide for the solutions on Classic, but will also include pointers on what to do on a Random playthrough. This guide is assuming that you just started playing and have no idea what you're doing.

In the Settings be sure to turn on Display Gameplay Context Subtitles under Display. This will give you in-game descriptions of all the buttons and things in the game. I also found it helpful to increase the size of the Cursor.

Starting off at the dock, walk forward and up the stairs to the left, and then around to the right in front of the buildings.

Turn left at the pillars and head toward the Clock Tower

Right after the pillars there is a doorway on your right. This leads you to the Generator.

Head inside and follow the path down and around and use the green button to open the door. Inside you'll see the Generator Control Panel. You need to select buttons 4, 7, 8, 9 as shown in the picture to get the Generator to 59. If you need it, the button numbers are behind you, on the right side of the door.

Head back outside and turn left. Right next to the doorway and behind the pillars is a is a brick tower with a power switch on top.

Go around to the back side of it and climb up the ladder. If you've powered the rocket correctly you'll hear an electrical hum. At the top flip the switch and head back down. Follow the power lines to the next switch which is right in front of the Rocket Ship.

Same thing as before; up the ladder, flip the switch. Head back down and make your way to the Rocket Ship. There's a small button on the left of the door panel. Click it and head inside.

Once inside, save your game. Turn to your left and you'll see 5 sliders and a lever. The positions of the sliders correspond to different notes. The pattern you want is (left to right) C1, C2, D#2, F1, A#0.

The sliders are pretty easy to do using a mouse, but I noticed it's a bit glitchy with a controller. It will frequently show you the wrong note while using a controller, so if you're having trouble just move the sliders up this many notches: 7, 19, 22, 12, 5.

When you're sure you've got it set up correctly, flip the switch on the right up. If you did it correctly the panel in the middle will flip around and reveal the Linking Book to Selenitic. It will also unlock:
MystSecret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Myst worth 34 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement
if you got it on your first try. If not, reload your save and put in the pattern again.

Open up the Linking Book and click inside to travel to Selenitic. Use the button directly on your left to open the door. Make your way down the familiar path.

(Optional) Red and Blue Page locations:

Just to the left of the Rocket Ship (or on the right when leaving the Rocket Ship) is a brick wall with a panel on it.

Click on the panel. There are five buttons that you need to map specific sounds to. Right now they're all set to (Wind Blowing). The pattern we need is:

1 - (Ethereal Crystal Sounds)
2 - (Water Running)
3 - (Wind Blowing)
4 - (Lava Rumbling)
5 - (Broken Clock Sounds)

To do this, select the button you want to change (1 is already selected) and use the dial on the right to change it to the correct sound. The order of the dial is:

(Wind Blowing)
(Water Running)
(Crash Sound)
(Broken Clock Sounds)
(Lava Bubbling)
(Ethereal Crystal Sounds)
(Electric Zap)
(Rocket Firing)
(Train Horn)
(Loopy Sound)

When you've got all five buttons mapped correctly, push the button under the dial to play back your sounds. This will open a door on your left. Head inside and follow the linear path all the way down. Use the green button to open the door and head to the Golden Vehicle.

Use the blue button on the right to open the door. Go in and on the right side is the control panel. Before doing anything else, save your game.

The control panel consists of an up/down lever on the left, a right/left lever on the right, a small button in the middle, and a compass on the top.

Push the left lever up to get started. Each crossroads will play one of four sounds; (Clink Sound), (Spin Sound), (Exhaust Sound), or (Cowbell Sound) (and sometimes two at once). Each one corresponds to a cardinal direction.

North - Clink
East - Exhaust
South - Cowbell
West - Spin

If it plays two sounds at once, pick the diagonal between them. IE Clink and Spin would be NW. The button in the middle will replay the sound if you need to. The lever on the right turns the pod.

The sequence on Classic (Cardinal direction with how many right or left turns):
N
W (L2)
N (R2)
E (R2)
E
S (R2)
S
W (R2)
SW (R1)
W (R1)
NW (R1)
NE (R2)
N (L1)
SE (R1)

The sequence can be the same on a Randomized playthrough, but it can also be:
N
W
W
W
W
N
NE
E
N
NE
SE
SE
(thanks Decaying Dead and skittlebiz)

If you mess up at any point you can pull the left lever back to return to the previous intersection. If you mess up at any point while playing on Random, reload your save. If you make it to the end on Random without backtracking you'll unlock:
MystSecret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Myst worth 46 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

Once you get to the end, push the blue button on the right side of the pod to open the door, then head down the linear path to the Linking Book back to Myst. Upon opening and clicking the book, you'll unlock:

that sequence wasnt right for me on random. N then W was, but after that, no. Mine was the same as the other guide: N, W, W, W, W, N, NE, E, N, NE, SE, SE. just as an FYI. Though you adding in the noise directions helped get through regardless, so thank you for that

I don't know what mode I'm in (classic or random), but the prior guide maze directions contained directions that were not even possible for me. Here was my path:
N, W, W, W, W, N, NE, E, N, NE, SE, SE, FINISH

Hope this helps!

The default selection at the start of the game is the randomized version. So unless you moved the cursor to the right for classic mode, then you are on random.
To verify which version it is, all you would need to do is start a new game and duplicate your path.

That's really weird. On my Randomized playthrough it was the same as my Classic playthrough so I (wrongly) assumed that they had not bothered to make different solutions for this puzzle (like several other puzzles in the game). I updated my guide to include this possible sequence.

The other guides are very well done, but I wanted to add a tip that helped me out on part of while on a randomized run.

Since the sequence to get into the maze is random, you'll have to hit all the buttons for the different sounds, and go the radio receiver next to the wind button to get the sequence. The tricky part is trying to 'tune in' to the different sounds. Even when you enable the "Gameplay Context Subtitles" here, it displays them as white font against a super bright yellow background and it's very hard to read the subtitles clearly.

So simply go into your options menu and drop the Gamma down to the minimum. This makes it easier to read the subtitles against the yellow background and thus makes it easier to tune the sounds correctly and get the sequence for the maze easier.
