How to unlock the Speedy achievement in Myst - Definitive Guide

WARNING
This might not be doable on console, 2 people said it takes almost 2 minutes to enter the fireplace code alone.
[Edit]: TA says the game has keyboard and mouse support. If you can't get this your best bet would be to use K&M
[EDIT] If you're struggling with this on console look at Tervaskanto's comment in the comment section. They might be able to help you out.
[EDIT] If you're still struggling look at Antonio FNN's comment. They suggest using "teleport to a safe place" in options to save time as it teleports you to the fireplace

The timing for this achievement is super crazy. It took me about 10 runs knowing which way to go and what buttons to press and I was on PC. God help those on console. Things to keep in mind CAPS LOCK will make you run all the time, no need to hold shift for sprint.

There's a known bug: after completing the game once (or collecting the white page), the white page won't spawn on your next run, close the game and launch it again, this fixed it for me. Close and reopen after each try.

Now onto the strategy, there's a great video on YouTube showing the current world record run on the original version, it looks a bit different but the buttons are on the same spot (run starts at 15 seconds PLAY ON 0.25 speed):

If you would prefer a more recent video (credit goes to: Kirran Lewis):

Lastly, you can see Tervaskanto's strategy done live at: (Credit goes to Brain5454)
Timestamp for this achievement: 1:05:35

Note: to raise the draw bridge the clock needs to show 2:40

Written guide:

Do this achievement on 1993 mode (original). After a cutscene finishes playing there's a book in front of you, click it and click on the video/gif, you will spawn on an island. Keep heading forward (ignore the first switch on the dock) up the stairs to reach some gears (switch on the right).
External image

Go down the stairs and follow the concrete path and climb the log stairs. Immediately look right (second switch).
External image

Keep following the path past the sanctum/library, there's a zeppelin and a third switch by it.
External image

Go back to the sanctum/library and head down. There's fourth switch by the water fountain and a fifth switch by the crypt on the right.
External image

From the crypt look directly behind you, there's a little hut with a sixth switch next to it.
External image

Finally, make your way down to the water. Click the contraption and set the time to 2:40, this will raise the bridge to your final switch.
External image

Now, make your way to the switch I told you to ignore and hit it 2x, a page will appear. Take the page to the sanctum/library, there's a fireplace. Click the fireplace to open it and get inside. There's a red switch you need to hit and a pattern you need to enter. Hit the red switch again after you've entered the patteren, see screenshot below.
External image

After you enter the pattern turn around and click the green book and the gif playing inside it. You will be teleported into a different room. Go up to the man sitting behind the desk and click the closed book. he will open it and ask you to insert the page. Click the gif, page and click the gif again. He will take it and close the book. More cutscenes, by the time he teleports away you should have your achievement.

Odds are you're a few seconds off on the time. It's a tight window. Also, I spent half an hour running it before I realized I had completely missed a lever entirely. Make sure you're hitting all 8. My final run went gears - observatory - rocket - crypt - clock puzzle - cabin - clock lever - fountain - dock x2. Hitting the dock lever once first is doable, but by skipping it you should be able to shave half a second or so. You may also do better by hitting the observatory after the fountain, but I found the slight turn irrelevant compared to the full 180 for the fountain if you hit that on the way to the crypt.

If none of that works, try and find places you can cut corners on to make the shortest possible path. The puzzle shouldn't take too long, but the animations can slow you down significantly, so every second you can cut before it is a second extra to do the puzzle.

I'm far from the best gamer, and just managed this on an Xbox Series X using a controller alone. Noticed it took my game longer to pull up the bridge to the clock tower than the video in this guide. Seemed to come up a lot faster once I upped the look sensitivity for some reason, and movement overall. Things I've used on my succesful run:

- Look sensitivity: 0.6
- Engage sensitivity: 0.8
- Used the hand cursor because it was slightly more obvious when I could click something
- Used the tip to do the cabin switch as the bridge is coming up. This was one of the biggest time savers. Just tried it again on the settings I used to play the game normally, and it took 8 seconds from hitting the button to being able to walk onto the bridge. With the listed settings, I could pretty much run straight from the cabin switch onto the bridge, maybe a minor delay
- Used the tip to leave the 4th switch for the way back
- Used the tip to leave the dock switch until last
- Used RT+right stick to set clock, went counter clockwise to get to 40 faster. The instructions are slightly in the way but after my dozens of attempts I knew where to land, and you can be about a minute off for it to still count
- Used the D-pad for the fireplace puzzle, as the door lowered I already moved the cursor to the top left to immediately get started once I could enter the puzzle. Found 0.8 engage sensitivity perfect here because otherwise I moved my cursor faster than it took to activate the button I'd just pressed, leaving it unactivated
- Not sure how much this helped, but I turned off HDR/Dolby Vision and lowered resolution to 1080p with 120 Hz frequency
- Used performance mode as well, but didn't notice a difference using it really

First and foremost thing I'd recommend, though, is upping the look sensitivity. I'd lowered it initially because I was having a hard enough time clicking the switches in a timely manner and someone here said they used about 0.30/0.35 for the sensitivities. At least for me it made moving around a lot slower. Once I upped it to 0.6 I managed it on my second attempt, first time I think I accidentally re-entered the fireplace when I tried clicking the button and I also closed the green book instead of entering it lol.

I never comment but the achievement popped as soon as I entered the green book, and if I can do it on console with a controller, there's no reason anyone else can't, too.

Series X, performance mode, using 2 time skips and the D-pad for the puzzle. Sensitivity at 1 for movement.
> Ignore Stoneship lever, go to the Mechanical lever first, activate, go into settings with D-Pad, quickly select "Teleport to safe spot", and spawn in the library. Start turning around before you can move.
> Go for the Selenitic lever, then the Power Shed down the hill on the way to the Clocktower. Set the tower to 2:40, go activate the Cabin lever, back down to the tower, cross and activate, then backtrack up the hill. Activate the Fountain lever on the right, then the Planetarium lever right of the library, then go down to the docks and activate the Stoneship lever twice (on and off). Click on the page and go to settings again, and "Teleport to safe spot."
> Start looking towards the fireplace as you're loading, open it, activate the puzzle and do it with the D-Pad. I was looking at a picture of the solution on my computer and NOT AT MY TV screen. You can hear the inputs and give a quick glance, but trust in what you're doing by just looking at the picture. Verify that it looks good in one glance and turn and activate the green book.
The achievement should pop 2 or 3 seconds AFTER ACTIVATING THE BOOK. Not by going in the cave and talking to the guy. If the cave loads and the achievement hasn't popped, you need to restart.
My time was 2:04 and I still got it in 3 tries, and I'm absolute shit at that sort of thing, so you can do it.

When the clock bridge is lifting out of the water is a good time to turn around and go for the cabin switch saves a little bit of time. Also the achievement popped for when after clicking on the green book.

I love this game. Played it back when it first came out many moons ago. I tried this on console... and I want to say near impossible, entering the fireplace code takes up so much on console.
Got it my second time on pc.
Tip: enlarge the cursor, and lower the sensitivity.

I can't fathom this being possible on console for most people. It'd take me close to 2 minutes alone just trying to input the fireplace code, yet alone all the other steps plus the traveling time.

@FLIPADELPHIA I am sorry to hear that, unfortunately there's nothing that can be done i don't think. Even on PC i needed a few practice runs. It's one of the downsides of having pc/console joined achievements

If the only way console players are going to be able to do this is by attaching a M+KB to the system... That's real sad. They should have just been more realistic about the time this takes on a console, bump the requirement up to 3-4 minutes for the console version

this is not impossible on controller i can confirm, i did it on controller but you have got to be as fast as possible and know the layout of the grid to get to the book as fast as possible, it unlocks after clicking the book gif

I started a timer from the moment I clicked the gif to enter Myst Island. Managed to then click the green book and my timer was at 2mins 10 seconds. So does look like timer starts the moment you can move after arriving on the island.
Done with a mouse plugged into Xbox.

Just to correct: the time on clock is 2:40, and not 8:10. Minute hand(big) is on 8, and the hour hand(small) is on 2. It would help to edit for accuracy.

I can put the fireplace code in around 10 seconds, the hardest part on console is the switches. You have to be dead on the handle, and the analog is just not precise enough to hit them on the run.

@Tervaskanto's tips helped me get it in two tries (on the controller) after hours of swapping between controller and mouse. I'll add that the hitbox of the switches is weird. The blue stripes at the base arent interactable, so I'd recommend aiming for the large rusted parts between them. Hope that helps and good luck guys!

just did this barely with tons of mistakes on the fireplace puzzle so i can confirm on controller there is some wiggle room not much between 5-10 seconds from what i personally messed up it also helps to mash the A button when approaching the levers sometimes youll get a lever the instant its possible.

Just did it on controller, TPFC is right it pops at green book, spend a few minutes memorizing the fireplace pattern. Use the d pad on it as well. Like everyone is saying the switches scattered around are a nightmare to click with analog sticks but it's doable. Worth it though, first time that rare achievement sound made me feel like achievement was actually rare.

I’m not sure what to do. I’ve done it within 2:00 on Xbox for sure and can’t shave any time off of it. Maybe it’s glitched for me. I’ve tried all of your suggestions too.

I used a controller for movement and a mouse for aiming and puzzles. The clock puzzle specifically I can do way faster on mouse. I was going between using mouse or dpad on the fireplace puzzle but found I could quickly glance to the solution and what I was doing with mouse and be easily able to move over if I missed one.

I will say it's worth spending some time finding optimal paths between the switches. e.g you can hug the observatory from the dock to get to that switch. Also, mash A/RT/Left click when near the switches. Use the other tips and the guide as well though. I started the timer straight when I could move and clicked to enter the green book at pretty much 2 minutes exactly.

Got pretty fed up with "I realized the moment I fell into the fissure, that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned." by the end though!

Update: Finally!!! I used everyone’s suggestions. But the key was: I was originally using the bumper buttons to change the clock hands. I realized I can grab them with RT and move them. That saved me those precious seconds. The worst part of this achievement was having to restart the stupid thing every time to make sure the white page was there! Thanks for all of your help everybody.

By RhinoceRoss on 28 Aug 2021 22:32
That white page never spawns when I'm on a good run, and then the reload is so long.
I have found that if the game hesitates/stutters after I flip the switch at the clock tower, then the white page will not appear. I've been at it for a few hours tonight and trying for this and Bob and neither are playing nice.

Did it on the first try with K/M. No need to shave "half seconds" off your time unless you are going for a WR; if you memorize where the switches are and have the fireplace puzzle pulled up you should be fine.

Hardest part for me is getting the icon to line-up with part of the switch that will toggle it. Moving the controller just a little bit just puts it past too far or not enough. Really frustrating.

Edit: Even with a mouse I'm still not getting this. No idea what I'm doing wrong because I'm doing everything in those videos. No idea how that second video was able to get the time even with going to the cabin before doing the clock.

Also, that tip in the last video about using the autosave...complete BS. Game autosaves after each switch.

Doable with controller. My timer on my cellphone said 2:00:60.
My tips:
Use RT not A at the levers. Spam it when in range.
Clock use RT and right analog, both times, yes both.
D-Pad on the puzzle, memorize it, my pattern is top left to top right then bottom right to bottom left while filling some middle blocks.

You can plug a mouse on your xbox. l unlocked it with a mouse (right hand) and a controler to run with LS. You can activate the buttons with the left button of the mouse. I think it s nearly impossible with only a controler. My sensitivity was set on 50. The achievements unlocks just after the first book. No need to give the white page you picked up earlier.

I can say with confidence, that I'm a lot better with controller than the majority and a lot worse with mouse than the majority. After messing up about like 10 times with controller on console, I switched to PC and got it first try with a few mistakes and 10+ seconds to spare.
This achievement is flawed, it's pretty easy on PC, I'm sure some speedrunners can do it under 60 seconds on PC, but I don't think ANYONE can do it under 1:50 on console. It's good that the game's Play Anywhere, so you essentially get the game on console and PC, but it's a shame devs don't even test achievements at all. It's unrealistically hard on console. If you can, plug in a mouse (keyboard is not even needed, you can go controller left stick in one hand and mouse in the other) to your Xbox or play on PC (on low settings even), but I don't recommend messing with the controller for this one. Especially since you have to restart AND QUIT everytime you get to picking up the white page.

@Antonio FNN
Thanks for the tip about teleporting.

Personally I did it with Xbox controller going Big Cogs>teleport>Rocket>teleport>Ship Model>Powerhouse>activate clock>Safe>Clock Island>teleport>Dark Room>Dock>teleport>fireplace puzzle. I don’t know how much of the teleport load time counts against you so I won’t argue with anybody who says all that porting isn’t optimal, but it seemed effective and it worked for me.

The achievement popped for me while D’Ni was still loading, so people probably don’t need to worry about talking to Atrus or anything like that.

Firstly, thanks for the great guide and thanks for all the additional suggestions in the comments.
I actually found this easier on controller personally (for navigation and then just using D-Pad for the fireplace puzzle, as previously mentioned).
However, part of me thinks this is somewhat luck based for when it unlocks? I completed the run flawlessly multiple times with no achievement. I've literally just had the achievement pop on a run where I was slower, not to mention I accidentally lowered and raised the fireplace twice whilst button bashing. I'm not sure if there's any truth in this but from what I personally experienced, it unlocked on a worse run than I'd previously done.

Not really difficult on console. Did it on my 5th try.
1st try: obviously sloppy but went better than I expected.
2nd try: got the white paper glitch.
3rd try: forgot to get the white paper and activate that switch.
4th try: forgot to hit the switch on the way to the white paper.
5th try: finished with around 5 seconds to spare. I hit two switches extremely well but even without that it should've been enough.

EDIT: Completely forgot about using the teleport feature. Guess it's even easier with it.

they need to do some kind of update and fix the area to operate the switches, it seems like there are some dead areas where you have to constantly move the reticle until you can flip them

Earned with a controller but in a laptop, since loading times in console were killing me. The teleport feature does work and it's useful. I created a save point in the beginning so I could skip the intro but the winning round came from a fresh new game.

Thanks to everyone's comments. Ended up doing it on PC because console was just mental!

Made the following config changes:
* dropped all gfx to low
* switched off all enhancements (vsync, raytracing, etc)
* Ran windowed at 1024 x 768
* Mouse sensitivity at 0.3
* Mouse cursor as max

And for gameplay
* The tip to hit the centre bar of the markers helped.
* Practising the pattern for the fireplace helped. Rather learn a pattern that the location of switches.

Messed up a few time, probably took me 10 times in total. Also, my final run wasn't 100% perfect, lost a few seconds on two markers no flipping immediately. The bug where the white page disappears after first attempt still exists, so I always quit and restarted the game when retrying.

Tried this with controller only for at least 10 times with no luck. Best time was 2:03. The slowest part with controller is definitely the fireplace puzzle. Plugged in mouse and switched to it once I got inside the fireplace (everything else I did with controller) and got this at first try. Final time was 1:59 aprroximately.

Can confirm you can get this with a controller (without changing settings to "performance mode"), but there is only a sliver of leeway. Had a timer running, had about 2 seconds left when I clicked into the book. With controller, I "rhythmically" tapped the d-pad for the fireplace puzzle which helped me go fast while keeping track of what tile I was on.
Recommend switching to performance mode, putting time in for the clock puzzle first then interact with switch by the shed to save time waiting for the steps to raise, and using mouse/rhythmically tapping d-pad on controller for fireplace puzzle.
I'd like to note that the achievement popped for me as soon as I loaded into D'ni (on series X). Interacting with Atrus (guy behind the desk) was not required for me, so you shouldn't have to waste time going through the entire rest of the cutscene.
Godspeed! toast

The fireplace puzzle is what tripped me up the most here, having it ready right next to my screen was helpful. I did this on PC and took about 4 or 5 tries. I failed once by trying a new path and then another time because the fireplace glitched on me and wouldn't show the puzzle.

That being said, getting your puzzle solving time to its best is where you are going to get this. Great solution and the images helped me greatly.

Reading all these comments helped a ton. Got it on console with controller. Teleported multiple times during the run to shave time off. Remember that you can turn around to face the door after you teleport and before it lets you start moving. Aiming for the larger brown body of the switch vs the handle helped. And I think it has to be a new game. I tried saving immediately after appearing on the island and reloading after each run but it never popped even though I had some very fast runs… however that might be a great way to practice honing your route. But didn’t get the achievement until I restarted as a new game. Popped during the load screen into the area with the dad.

I've tried the controller. I've tried a mouse. I've tried the controller AND a mouse. I've taken all the shortcuts. I've tried teleporting. I've watched every YouTube video, and read every comment on the Internet.

I've been at this now for four straight hours, and nothing I do works. I'm constantly ten seconds slow AT BEST.

My computer is too slow, it is 100 times harder to control the movements with keyboard and mouse and with the controller I only just make it to the fireplace at the 2 minute mark. Have tried teleporting from the clock to the fireplace and from the page pick up to the fireplace and there is no time pause during the jump.

Just did it on the xbox with the controller except for the "clock" and the pattern at the end which I used a mouse (but I'm pretty sure its almost as fast as using the d-pad on the controller), I also lowered the "look" sensibility quite a lot since it was moving to quickly for me . Did not teleported since I think it actually made me slower. I'm not a PC gamer so was very clumsy moving with keyboard, that's why I moved with the controller. After trying different methods I did it first try with this controller-mouse method, I was timing myself and got like 1:58 when I pressed on the green book (and it wasn't a perfect run).

FYI on console you just have to push in the L button once to activate Running (sprint), whereas someone said on PC you can do this with CAPS LOCK. On mine it starts me off in running mode, so you may not have to do anything to begin running. test it out a few times (which I'm sure you'll have to do anyway) to make sure. So you shouldn't have to hold it down to keep running. If you hit it down again it'll put you into walking mode.

The achievement popped for me immediately after clicking on the book in the fireplace (played on PC w/ mouse and kb). The devs mentioned in a steam thread that the timer starts as soon as the player starts on the deck next to the sunken ship so the first part with the book falling through the crack is not included as part of the time (and reloading a save prevents the achievement from popping)

Series X - mouse for the clock and fireplace only, performance mode on, had my sensitivity turned down.

Did cogs, safe travel, spaceship>fountain>shed>clock puzzle>cabin>clock over bridge, safe travel, planetarium> final switch, safe travel, fireplace.

Final timer was 2.11 from just after clicking the green book - achievement popped a few seconds after. Was a bit surprised! Took me about a dozen attempts, tried a few different ways.

Got this with K+M on XSX. Controller felt too inaccurate for the switches and the clock was a breeze with the mouse.
Also used Teleport to safe place which seemed to shave valuable time and net me the achievement on first try doing this.
For the fireplace I screen shared with my TV and used PiP to have a small window in the corner with the correct pattern - after several attempts it was pretty much memorised however.

For those of you rushing to get this done on the controller. I just followed this guide and got it first time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOLZeofqtZg&ab_channel=T...

The main difference is after you get further away from the library, teleport their rather than walk. I also did the switch by the fountain on my way from the ship and did the switch by the library after I teleported from the clock and back down to the dock to get the page

This is 100% doable on console. Just popped it with a controller.

Tips:
1. Skip the fourth switch on the guide until your return trip. It takes precious seconds to turn around to hit it and turn back around to continue.
2. Do the clock puzzle before the cabin switch. Doing so allows you to grab the cabin switch and get back just as the bridge finishes early.
3. Don't use the analogue control on the fireplace puzzle. The d-pad is far easier to use, and allows you to finish it in a fraction of the time.
4. Be prepared to retry a few times. It's easy to forget a switch, or make a mistake on the fireplace puzzle. Get familiar with the layout, find a path that works, and run like hell!

My method: I did all the walking and looking around with controller (mouse was a bit too out of control for that, I thought), but had a mouse plugged in for the clicking of the grid, AND the setting of the clock puzzle, which saved a lot of time. The problem with using the controller's d-pad for the grid is that you can't move the cursor until each square button finishes pressing inward and springing back outward again. :P

Also, as you run up to each switch, I would recommend hammering the right trigger or the A button, while trying to keep your eyes on the switch handle, sometimes you get real lucky and hit it at the instant you're in range, and you can keep running to the next one.

And as someone already said, save the cabin switch for while the gear-work bridge is raising, and don't bother with the switch next to the fountain in the middle of the island until you're coming back up from the clock-tower-mini-island.

Can confirm. Doable on xbox with controller. achievement pops as soon as clicking the green book gif in the fireplace. no need to give him the white page after teleporting if this is the only achievement you are going for. if you didn't get it when loading into the area you missed it. Like many others said. skip dock switch, do the model boat switch on way back up. I was using right trigger on the switches just spamming them until the moved up. The clock hands hold right trigger and spin the right analog stick. hit down on dpad. then right bumper twice. down on dpad right trigger. was easier for me to get the time right. while the bridge raising hit the cabin switch. on way back up hit the model boat switch. fireplace use dpad. hit b when all done hit the red switch turn and spam right trigger on green book. took me about 10 tries.

I haven't popped this yet, but I have a suggestion that I saw in another video. Instead of flipping the second-to-last switch (next to the tree-raising house) immediately after the power-house switch, solve the time puzzle next so that the gears-bridge has some time to come up while you turn around and flip the tree-house switch. Seems like would save you time from waiting on the gears bridge to bubble out of the water.

I did exactly the same thing as LibelluleGino - controller in left hand, mouse in right. I had sensitivity closer to 0. I found that 1. clicking the brown center cylinder of the switches is easier than the handle itself - don't click anything teal unless it is the actual handle. 2. Skip the fountain handle and shack handle as you run to the clock. - Get the shack after entering 2:40 while the path is still rising. Get the fountain on your way back to pick up white page. 3. Rotating the minute hand left is a little faster than right. 4. Changing cursor to hand mode can help ensure your clicks will register. 5. Using a wired mouse instead of wireless may reduce input lag. Good luck! The timing is definitely tight.

I just did it on Series S w normal controller, no big deal, but I used a shortcut. First, raise the levers on this order: big cogs, dark room, rocket, power house. Then go to clock, hold A and adjust the minutes using right stick, press down on dpad to change to hours, adjust the same é way, then down on dpad to press the button. While the bridge is raising, turn on the lever next to safe, then go back, cross the bridge, raise the lever, go back raising the lever next to the ship model, rush to last lever on pier, turn on and off, grab the paper, press start, choose the option "go to a safe place". You will appear at the center of the library. Enter the fireplace and insert the pattern w dpad (have it memorized). This is how I've got it after like... Much time. Practice is the key.

@Antonio FNN
That tip is a lifesaver! I just unlocked this by teleporting twice in one run.
(On Xbox One X with standard controller.)

I did: Cogs, Dark Room, Rocket, Fountain (stand behind it to activate so you don't have to waste time turning around), Powerhouse, Clock Puzzle, Cabin (while bridge is coming up from water), then I crossed the bridge and hit the Clocktower switch. Paused, teleported to a safe spot, ran down to the pier, hit the Pier switch twice, grabbed the paper, and immediately paused to teleport again. Then I put in the tile code (use your D-Pad, have it memorized or up on your laptop, and don't rush it too much so the buttons light up properly), then I backed out, hit the red button again, and spun around to open and enter the green book. Achievement popped.

The "teleport to a safe spot" option can be found under Settings. Best of luck!

Managed this on console, but it's tricky for sure and took quite a few attempts. I thought my successful run didn't seem that fast (wasted some time on missed switches) and I also misclicked the very last button of the fireplace puzzle and had to quickly go back in to change it, but still had the achievement pop after using the book, so there's definitely some leeway even using a controller and it doesn't require perfection. I did use the teleport trick to help as well.

The bit that messed me up most often personally was the clock as I struggled to get to grips with the controls of that bit and kept wasting time on it, but I nailed it cleanly on my successful attempt and that seemed to make the difference. If you can get the button presses for that down (hold RT and use right stick to spin the first hand, press down on D-pad, spin the second hand in same way, press down on D-pad and RT for the button) and manage to hit the switches fast enough, plus using the teleport to fireplace, you should have it in the bag.

TIME SAVER VS BASE WALKTHROUGH BELOW

On PC with version 1.6.0:

As others stated, definitely VSYNC off. I couldn't make it back to the first pedestal with the page till 1:45 with it on, and got there in 1:15 with it off (oddly, it didn't "feel" faster, but it definitely was). Also had framerate unlimited, quality settings low, and my screen res to 1920x1080 but scaled rendering to half that to 960x540. The achievement popped for me *as soon as* I landed on d'ni -- no need to click the page or the myst book to activate it (as opposed to the other completion achieves) but this may change depending on platform/version. Also, I started a stopwatch as soon as I clicked the myst book at the intro (2:25 total time) and lap time as soon as I could move on the dock (2:12 total time) so I'm not really sure when the timer starts, but it does seem to allow for some slop.

TIMESAVER: While waiting for the clock tower bridge to raise turn around and click the switch next to the tree hut, by the time you get back to the clock the bridge will be walkable and that will help to streamline the path to/from the clock.

Here's a couple more tips I can offer people using a controller. During the prologue, when you're getting the narration. Click the left thumb stick. Make sure it says "running" this will ensure that you are moving at the fastest speed by default.

Secondly, in the settings, Turn your "Look Sensitivity" up a little over half-way and your "Engage Sensitivity" to a high number. this helps the response time of the puzzles (clock and fireplace) considerably.

Thirdly, after you collect the white page. Hit start, settings and "Teleport to a Safe Spot" which will put you inside the library facing the book case. All you have to do is turn around and the fireplace is in front of you. Don't need to walk back from the ship to the library. (I don't know how much time this actually saves, but you might be able to shave a few seconds.)

Done on controller in 1:56, took a few tries but those tries were mainly getting the route and fireplace buttons memorized. It's not as hard as I thought it would be with just a little practice. Tips:

- Practice hitting the switches as fast as possible almost without stopping. If you know you failed a run then go back and practice the route.
- Same with the puzzle at the end. I did have it up on my phone and was partially glancing at it during my successful run but I had mostly memorized it.
- I went from right to left, with my last 5 buttons at the top left going right and south for that 5 button sequence, then quickly hitting the red button.
- Have a stopwatch timer on your phone. Time yourself. You should get to the fireplace puzzle with 25-30 seconds left, IIRC.
- I did not use "teleport to a safe place." I found it takes almost the same amount of time on my Series X, but maybe it shaves off a second or two. Either way, didn't need it.
- I had my sensitivity at 35 for look and 80 for engage. Not sure if it made a difference, honestly. Some of the solutions for these differ drastically.

I'm sure KB&M would help shave some seconds off but it isn't needed with some practice.

Edit: and of course, as someone else mentioned, during the talking cutscene at the beginning you can press in your left thumbstick to toggle run/walk. I found that this only had to be done one time and it stood on "running" for my subsequent runs.

I did it in 1 minute 56 seconds, and it still didn't pop. I only used "teleport to a safe place" to go from collecting the white page on the dock to the fireplace puzzle. Am I wrong to reload a save from the moment I load in on the dock after the intro cutscene? Do I need to just start a new game each attempt?

EDIT: I did get it the first time after starting a new game. It may not work if you just keep reloading a save from the moment you first load into the dock.

Controller FTW
Used the RT+Right Stick for clock
got that zeppelin switch last before i went for that paper
Used the analog for the fireplace

I also utilized taking sticky notes and tearing them making like 3/4 squares with the sticky side and like just tearing some off and placing them over the buttons for the puzzle, also made sure that the bright outline could be seen because i found sometimes when i was pressing fast or too close it would unlit the switch. It took me a bit to get it, probably like a half hour or something idc I did it take that!

*IF YOU ARE PLAYING ON PC!*
Turn your graphics settings to low and disable supersampling, vsync and raytracing.

EDIT: Xbox has a similar setting called performance mode that may have the same effect on console (thanks for mentioning this SquiSquiSquidio). Unfortunately I haven't tested this on console so I cant verify but it is worth doing all the same.

After attempting it multiple times with several near perfect runs only for no achievement to pop I investigated and found that having these settings any higher than necessary will literally slow your movement speed, this includes your footsteps and your cursor for inputting the time and the final tile puzzle. You will know you have this issue if you compare the rate of your footsteps ingame to the video tutorials, there is a noticeable slower pace. Try turning these settings down, you should hopefully notice the footsteps immediately get faster, you may notice a large change or a negligible change based on how high they were prior.

In addition set your mouse cursor scale to max, this somewhat mitigates the issue of mis-clicking switches. If you have a gamepad available, plug it in and turn on haptics but still use keyboard and mouse. The controller will vibrate when you successfully hit the switch and will give you a confirmation if you rush past a switch and are not sure if you got it.

I can confirm this worked on PC. I tried, nearly flawlessly at least half a dozen times before I saw this comment. I already had supersampling and ray tracing off but turning off vsync and increasing the cursor scale to max is what did it.

Another tip: when going for the handle to flip, you can click the middle of the handle that rotates, which is bigger than the blue handle itself. I uploaded a picture, aim for the green arrow, not the orange: https://i.imgur.com/71U0M5z.png

One last tip, make sure you have done the final puzzle enough to at least do most of it from memory. I knew basically the corners and sides, there were a few in the middle I had to look up but doing those last meant I wasn't second guessing myself when it came time to hit the button.

I did this on PC with KB/M, but I also had an Xbox controller on my lap that would shake whenever I successfully hit the switches, which was helpful (someone mentioned it above)

Good luck!

Xbox has a similar setting called "Performance Mode". I was able to get it after a few times by turning this on.

Nice find! For once I am happy to not be able to turn on ray tracing. Do all Xboxes have performance mode or only the Series S/X?

Not sure, I'm on Series X

@pomikoli Series S has a "Performance Mode" too, but it has a lot more hiccups than the Series X (tested both). Don't bother with this achievement without a mouse though, it's unreal; I got it first try on PC but I'm not that good at playing with a mouse, after messing up a lot on Series X and S.

This should really be integrated with the top solution or something. This is a game changer with these settings, I got it my first try after trying for over an hour without them. The movement difference is night and day!

Similar story to others here. Didn’t get it first try on PC with default settings, dropped everything down to low and expanded the cursor. Got it on my next attempt, with the achievement popping as soon as I loaded into the final area.

Just like a lot of people, as soon as I turned on performance mode (console using controller) I got the achievement my very next try. Definitely recommend doing this!

I tried this achievement a few times on console and couldn't get close in time. Ended up installing it on my PC and used the settings here right away. Got the achievement on the second try, first attempt I missed a fireplace block. PC is the way to go where possible.

Perhaps this may or not be helpful, and pardon my English as I've had a stroke many years ago and words don't come as easily as they would have before...regardless.

As a console player myself I can attest this is difficult to do but, i found a few things that can help.

- I personally put my sensitivity around 30-35 for both look and puzzle sensitivity.
- Do a dry run with a timer specifically set to 2 minutes and do as many runs as you can trying to maximize your times in between areas.
- The achievement itself does unlock once you click the book in the fireplace.
- The guides here are perfectly fine and use mine only for reference.

- One thing I did is i do the very first switch near the boat a couple of times to get a reference of where i want to look so that in between the switches I'm only really using the x-axis for turning and never changing the y so that i have a constant reference for where i want my switch to be.

- As per the other guides do the cab switch after the clock puzzle.

(I never teleported on the run where i got the achievement.)

By the time you get to the fireplace puzzle you'll probably have 20-30 seconds to complete it, and i personally found that going right to left reduced the time to the red button press at the end.

That should be it, if i need to clarify a few things, just help me jog my memory and maybe i can simplify some stuff. but yeah i got this with a controller andd am very happy.

I managed to do this achievement on the console in 1:57 seconds, I had the idea of sticking stickers on the television in the part of pressing the buttons that is inside the fireplace, this made it a lot easier. I got it in less than 10 tries.
Sorry for the translation, I used Google Translate.

I so recommend the mouse and keyboard. I only have a really cheap wireless set and it worked wonders. A trial run to see how I navigated etc and then got it on my first go. Recommended whacking the sensitivity of the look up a little and the engaging sensitivity quite higher to move faster during the clocktower and the fireplace puzzles.

So after reading all the guides and trying on a pc with a mouse and keyboard and getting no where, I persevered with a controller. However I did things differently.

In settings change cursor to hand, makes selecting the levers way more accurate.

In the intro cinematic press l3, left stick in, to enable running, then click on the book

Set a stop watch on your phone and start it when you appear in game

Memorise your pattern

The hands cursor really reduces the time spent trying to flip levers. Worked for me.

This is my first time posting any sort of tips; if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

After Multiple attempts, I was able to finally achieve the achievement. You check out my run with a few tips which will mention below:

1. Firstly go to setting and change the reticle to the Hand Sign

2. I kept the movement speed of the thumbstick to "4" that way I was able to handle the movement better (but its more on preference on your side)

3. Play on the classic mode where the clock solution is always the same at "2:40"

4. When you start the game change the mode of movement to running by clicking the RS right before touching the book

5. As soon as you start try keeping your reticle a little lower so when you are near the switches you just need to press the interactive button.

6. You will see that I'm pressing the switches at a distance which helps with maintaining the flow.

7. Most guides suggested not pressing the first switch and doing it at the end twice to get the page. I recommend pressing the first button once initially as it helps with the last past when you only need to press it once.

8. I would also advise memorizing the last puzzle as much as you can and keeping a screenshot right close to the screen so you can view it with the side of your eye.

9. Lastly when you initially click on the puzzle it starts at the first top right box, which you need to light so saves time and makes movement a little faster.

I did it with the controller on the Xbox one and is totally doable. Just need patience and practice. I did a few minor mistakes but I believe you can do it a lot faster. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

PS: It doesn't show the achievement unlocking but it unlocked for me when I load into the other world
