How to unlock the Close Combat achievement in NARAKA: BLADEPOINT - Definitive Guide
After hours of grinding and trying out different methods, I have found what I believe to be the quickest method (though it will still take time)
From what I can gather you gain xp for weapons just from holding them. Damage doesn't seem to affect the amount of xp you gain.
I cant tell for sure but it feels like you gain less in bot matches. I gain around 2k in a bot match but 3.5k in an online match.
The weapon you are using gains the most xp but any in your weapon quick slots will gain xp.
To maximize xp gain choose one weapon and have it equipped in both quick slots.
Doing this you can gain up to 3500 xp a match. It will still take a long time but this can at least remove a few hours of grinding.
Hope this helps.

I did 40k damage and had 22 kills in one match. Keeping one of each dual blades and repeater, I got 2214 for blades and 804 for repeater. I got a few kills with the repeater at the end when bots were fighting each other, but near 18 of those kills were dual blades. It seems time more than damage counts.
I'll test bloodbath later. You can pick spawning weapons and use just those the whole match. No wasting time looking for weapons.
Edit: Another normal bot match and 1401 for blades and 763 repeater. I used the crossbow a lot less and had fewer versions in the backup inventory and the points were still the same. Damage helps it seems but still mostly a time thing.

Only the two main weapons being held get xp. The ones stored do not. I put a repeater crossbow straight in my inventory and it gained 0 XP.

There is a good way to upgrade weapons in adventures. I advise you to immediately choose a combination of short-range weapons, since the weapons do not change in the adventure, and play in any modes with just such a combination.
1 long sword - pistol
2 dagger - pistol
3 staff - swarm
4 two-handed sword - bow
5 double blades - cannon
6 katana - crossbow
7 spear - musket
8 glaive - cannon
At the time of writing the hint, there are 8 characters in the adventure
