During any career, season, or single player race, make sure to qualify first 20 times. With easy AI, you will soar by their lap times and qualify first without any trouble at all.
Note: All qualifying sessions have two laps to set your time. If you earn the pole on the first lap, you don’t have to run the second lap. Just press start and retire, it will give you a window saying your first lap will stand.
Note 2: I had qualified first 29 times during my first career, but didn't get the achievement. Worried, I loaded up a single player race on Bristol and qualified first (I completed both laps) and it popped immediately. There may be a requirement to run both laps to pop the achievement, but running both qualifying laps is definitely not required to earn 20 pole awards.
8/6/14 Edit: cochese788 has pointed out that Nascar '14 now uses the current qualifying format: You run a few laps with other drivers, and only advance if your lap times are good enough. If I'm not mistaken, there are three rounds in the full qualifying format. You can still retire after a round and have your time stand.

I had to delete the title update and qualify first 20 times offline for this achievement to pop. I guess it's because the qualifying system is completely different after the update.

How does the qualifying work now? I heard that Nascar made changes to their qualifying system but I didn't know it was implemented in the update.

Hello my fellow gamers just thought I'd give some advice for this trophy, I tried to get this whilst playing normally in career but after well exceeding the 20 pole positions still no trophy, so I thought maybe if I delete the latest patch (v1.03) that may work and guess what it did and I unlocked the trophy, if you have the digital version you will have to delete the game from your ps3 then download it again, when launching the game refuse the update and you should be fine.
