All other drivers are on a scale of opinions of you, as below:

Rival
Race clean and their feelings towards you improve, race dirty they decrease. You also get social media posts at times about you from other drivers. Select whether you want to reply with a compliment or insult. Each time you do this it moves their feelings towards you one place in the desired direction on the scale
Getting 3x Friends should be easy if you race clean and compliment other drivers. Drivers who are friends is slightly helpful in races.
NOTE: For the rivals achievement all 3 rivals must be in the same series. Friends may very well require this too. (If anyone can confirm please say!) 3x Rivals never popped for me until I got my 4th rival as the 1st was in a different series to the 2nd-4th.

Not sure about series, but I had 4 friends (1 in dirt and 3 in trucks). I earned 2 friends after a race to get up to 4 friends but the achievement didn't unlock. I completed another career race and it unlocked.

The friends need to be in the same series, much like rivals.
