How to unlock the Perfectionist achievement in NASCAR Unleashed - Definitive Guide
Make use of drifting. If you have a boost going and you can drift through a corner and keep it off the walls, it could make the difference between hitting the time and not.
Always try and hit through the pits for an extra boost. If you have an active boost and go through another checkpoint or the pits you will store a boost which can be activated immediately after your current boost is ended.
If all else fails, just take a break. Come back after you've done something else to help relax. Your fresh head should make it a little easier for you to nail the time.
1. I tried to avoid ramps while boosting (except both Talladega tracks where I slowed down a little while boosting over them)
2. Don't be afraid to let off the gas a little while boosting and drift through the turns to make it easier to stay off of the walls to keep your boost going longer.
I did all of them on my first try except for Daytona oval and the first Talladega track which took two.
1. Always retry if you think you will not get the gold time (especially if it's only first lap)
2. Know when is the right time to use the boost (straight tracks are always the best time to do it unless you are very good at drifting)
3. Always try to get through the pits for an extra boost in case you want to fly through the tracks but watch out for turns when you do!
Here is a video with all time requirements and some weird ways of me completing them.
This is the most difficult part of the game, as some of the gold times are very easy, while some will make you want to break a controller. A few tips throughout:
- Do not be afraid to restart the race if you screw up (especially near the beginning of the race). Some of the time trials have very unforgiving times, so it is critical to make sure you get a great start and very good first lap (on those that require 2 laps).
- Always make your boost last as far as possible. You can keep tapping or squeezing the accelerator to keep your boost/drift going for quite a while sometimes.
- Use good racing sense by taking turns tightly, boosting in straightaways, and knowing when to let off the accelerator are the most critical pieces of the time trials. Personally, I didn't use to manually drift or press the brake during the time trials and eventually made the gold times on every track.
In addition, here are some tips on a couple of the tough tracks:
Talledega Superspeedway Canal Run – Goal 25 Seconds - This was a very tough track, because you want to go fast, but you have to be very careful not to overuse the boost and accelerator. The key is really staying off the grass (especially in the narrow section with ramps), avoid hitting too many obstacles, and keeping a high speed throughout. Don't worry about smashing into the narrow corner after the straightaway (going into the second lap), as the game usually auto-corrects you so you won't crash out of control.
Martinsville Speedway Mountain Pass – Goal 30 Seconds - The key on this track is knowing exactly when to boost. Keep practicing the very first section (through the grass) until you can use one boost all the way through it and through most of where the road is split by a median. Boost out of the first median section and into the bridge section with the semi trailer. Don't bother hitting the ramp though, just go to the right of it. As long as you can maintain about 200 mph or so through the tunnel, you should be able to save that boost you got at the beginning of the tunnel until after the second median section and hit it right before the checkpoint, so you'll have another in waiting case you screw up. It's critical to maintain a very high speed in the section passing pit lane (going into Lap 2). My personal checkpoint for Lap 1 is that you should have at least 32 seconds on the clock to be on pace to finish with gold.
