How to unlock the Draft, Schmaft achievement in NBA 2K18 - Definitive Guide
This achievement is missable and you won't be able to get it unless you get it in your first MyCareer season.
If you don't level up your character right off the bat, this achievement will be very difficult as it's difficult to play well in game and get more playing time if you aren't a higher level. The starting player rating (65 or 60, I can't remember) is woefully bad and it's going to be very difficult for you even as a skilled player.
In past years, you could just set the difficulty to easy and score 90 points against the AI... but of course 2K removed that in this year's MyCareer mode.
Oh, and set your quarters to 12 minutes. You'll thank me later. Games take longer, but you'll level up more and gain more PPG, which is crucial to winning ROTY.
I hate to say it, but this achievement will be very difficult if you don't either buy VC or grind it from some "other" method (don't ask me how).
Like I said, leveling up your character right off the bat is crucial. You'll get more minutes from the coach as a result of your higher rank, coupled with better stats.
One last thing: don't simulate games, even though it's tempting. Even as a high-ranked player, playing the game will always give better results for you player than simulating. Additionally, you can't get minutes per game increases from your coach without actually playing the game (I learned this the hard way).
Keep an eye on the "Rookie of the Month" tab of your phone, too, as this will be a good indicator of if you can expect to win this award or not.
