NBA 2K9

This is a viral achievement which is deceptively hard to get due to the fact that, if you are playing someone who has it in a ranked exhibition game, and you are beating them, they can quit and you will not receive the achievement (nor any achievements related to online wins).

This situation is utterly ridiculous to be honest. I had so many people quit when I was beating them I got sick of it. So, my solution was this:

I found someone with the achievement and waited until the 2k9 servers were quiet. This was about midnight Pacific time in the US, or about 6pm in Melbourne Australia.

We both went into the 2k9 live lobby, and at the same time clicked on "ranked exhibition match" - and we were matched up first go! Unbelieveable.

I have heard that you might not get matched up right away, but if you keep looking - going into the lobby, entering a game, then withdrawing before the tip off if it isn't your boosting partner you are set to play - you should be matched up in the first 3 tries when the server is quiet.

The number of quitters and bad sports who play this game online is ridiculous. It ruins the online experience for everyone.

This achievement is a viral achievement. You must beat a person that already has this achievement in a Ranked Exibition Match.

Go into Xbox Live and get to the Ranked Exibition Match with your boosting partner. Search at the same time so you get matched up. The servers are pretty dead now so this should not be to difficult to do.

Play the person with the achievement and win the game. You will unlock the achievement after the game is comopleted. Remember you must win the game.

I have heard but cannot confirm that if you get this achievement you cannot turn right around and pass it on to someone else. I believe this would be because this needs to register on the 2K server and it would update in 24 hours. After 24 hours (or whatever time the server updates) you should be able to pass the achievement onto someone else.

I personally found it difficult to get someone willing to boost this with me. I finally found someone who helped me so now I am posting this solution and offering my help to anyone else who wants this. Just send me a message and I would be more than happy to help boost this with people.

I got this achievement way back in 2009 and tried to pass it on to my friend unsuccessfully recently. With some research I was able to find a way that works, so this new solution is for those of you who have no luck boosting this so far.

As you know, the NBA server resets every month. The implication is that the person carrying this viral has his online record reset to 0 games played - which makes his virus dormant. So what you simply need to do is to let the carrier win a game to activate his virus again, so he can pass it on successfully within the same month.

1. Search under Xbox Live -> Ranked Custom Match -> Exhibition Match
2. Let the viral carrier win a game
3. Play another match in the same month for the person who needs this achievement to win

Playing 2 matches should take you about 1hr. To speed things up, let the person who's supposed to win score a few baskets. Then whoever's in possession will hold on to the ball around the 3-point line. Wait for the shot clock to run down to 3s and shoot. Grab the rebound and keep the ball in play.
