How to unlock the Arena Noob achievement in NBA JAM: On Fire Edition - Definitive Guide
I just purchased this game this weekend, so it appears that the counter lasts for a week, resetting at about 4am Eastern Wednesday. For every five wins that you get in that week(to a maximum of 25), you receive a medal.
As an aside I really like the way the online play is handled in NBA JAM: On Fire Edition, where you get randomly paired up. Additionally if your opponent drops out, you still get a win towards this total for the week.
As far as strategy goes, play however you feel most comfortable: I have always played as a fast shot blocker and that's how I continue, although guides (and experience) show that canning three pointers all day long is an easier way to go offensively.
Finally, in the past week I had several one vs. two matches (where I was matched up against two people who were playing locally together and I had the computer as a partner). This is an excellent idea for gamesmanship, but it is harder to play team defense with two people.
This is a tremendously fun game, so pick it up!

From the main Arena screen, there is a countdown telling you exactly how much time is left in the medal period

You must earn 1 Arena Medal to earn "Arena Noob" (5G).
When you enter the Online Arena, you will notice a countdown for time remaining in the session... The session restarts every week. During a session you must win five times to earn your first medal. (It will be bronze, but color doesn't matter for this achievement.)
If the session time ends before you earn that medal you are working toward, your win total toward the medal will reset, and you will need to start over on your attempt to win 5 times in a weekly session.
Arena Challege medals do not count toward this achievement. You will notice you can win "medals" based on feats accomplished in the Online Arena by you, your friends, and co-op partners... these do not count toward the medals needed for this achievement.
This achievement can be boosted easily. The online lobbies are usually "dead" late in the night and early morning in the USA. People in other countries may have better success trying to be online during the early morning hours of the USA. You can see how many players are online, and I had a lot of success matching up with my friend when there were less than 250 people playing. In my experience when less than 100 people were online, getting matched up was almost automatic... with around 250 online, it seemed to be a 75% chance to be matched up. If you get matched up with the wrong person, just quit out. (I recommend making your boosting partner a prefered player, and doing the opposite for anyone else you get matched up with while attempting to boost this achievement)
Once you get matched up with your boosting partner. Have the player who is going to lose the match quit after 30 seconds in the game. You will gain a win if your opponent quits after 20 seconds have been played. I had better success making the match count as a win/loss if we waited over 30 seconds instead of the 20 it says is needed to count as a game played.

To get the simplest bronze medal, you need to win 5 games in the online arena (it is not necessary to win in a row).
