Obviously you want to be at the 50 or on your side of the field before trying for this long run achievement. I highly suggest that you try an outside run like the one I'm posting a video link too (the video is not mine, it's by FSUNolez06).
If you must go up the middle, you can do that as well, but it usually doesn't work quite as well. If you're having trouble getting this achievement play a bad team like Eastern Michigan with a team that has a fast RB like Michigan. Turn your speed and strength sliders all the way up on the RB and turn all the defenders on the opposing team's sliders speed all the way down. They'll then move comically slow and this becomes quite a laughable feat to accomplish.

Just make sure you are behind the 50 yd. line and then once you see somebody open, throw it to him. Then just run 50 yards. You don't have to score a TD to get this achievement. I used Florida for this achievement, I played against Army, I selected:
-Shotgun
-Ace
-Speed Option
If the defense is fixing to tackle Tebow, hit the 
to pitch the ball to the HB. It shouldn't take you long at all to get this achievement, you should be able to get it on your first attempt, since Army has no defense.
