How to unlock the Mr. February achievement in NCAA Football 10 - Definitive Guide

I got this solution from the NCAA 11 page and it also works here.

Sim through a dynasty season up to the BCS Championship.
Go into Recruiting and see who has the top class.
Go to dynasty setup and create a new coach. When you select him and find a job, you have your choice of any team. Pick the team with the top class. Select the old coach, "X Coach", X being whatever school you started with, and delete him. Sim to the offseason.

You might be able to get away with simming through offseason recruiting and keep the top class, but from here I actually did the recruiting. Just offer scholarships to any 3+ star prospects who have you 1st on their list and call them, sell pitches, make promises. It's simple enough.

This wouldn't work for me. I went through twice creating a new coach right before the bowl. I got #1 both seasons and no cheevo pop. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but it's really annoying. Help!

I did this without making the phone calls/etc. I just simmed and checked out what the number 1 recruiting class was, then reloaded my dynasty and changed my coach again to that team and re-simmed and it worked :)

Great guide, an interesting tidbit is that as stated in the solution, you MUST delete the coach, simply quitting the old job with your original coach doesn't allow the achievement to pop later.

For anyone still wanting this: This solution works. It did take me a few tries. Some things to add that let me get it:

-I saved and exited the dynasty after I made the new coach for the #1 recruiting team. Reloaded it.
-I simmed trough each recruiting week one by one, and checked rankings each week.

If I just simmed everything it wouldn't unlock.

This is similar to Mr. February in other NCAA game editions. What worked for me:
1. Pick a strong team (Florida, Oklahoma, etc.) and sim the season (win every game including a bowl or BCS Championship game, if you think you might lose, play it and win).
2. Sim to off-season and up to the recruiting level (save your data here, if you need to restart later, this is a good spot).
3. You will have 35 prospects. Remove anyone less than 4-star. Search the map and pick up any 5-star prospects available, then complete your list with any 4-star players that have not committed to a college.
4. Make telephone calls, promises, and schedule visits (after week 2), etc.
5. Then sim week 1 (you can check your status after simming by looking at the "Top Classes" rankings).
6. Repeat #4 and #5 for each week.
7. After week 5, go to "Top Classes" and check your ranking. If your college is #1, just sim the remainder of the off-season. If you have a lower ranking, restart (quit and go back to #3).
8. The achievement will unlock at the end of the off-season activities.

It took me two attempts (finished with 8-5star prospects) to unlock the achievement. I failed my (did not make telephone calls, promises, or schedule visits, etc.) first attempt (they do make a difference).

Thanks for the tips, but after being the #1 ranked class by a mile (8 5-star prospects, next closest was 4) the game decided to glitch and not give me the achievement. So I did it again, and again, no achievement.

I hate this #@$@ing game.

Good solution though, although maybe a few more details on where the various options you discuss can be found would be helpful (took me awhile to figure them out).

The same thing happened to me. 8 5-stars, 17 4-stars... after the pre-season, no achievement. I didn't look during the preseason to see if I got topped, but this is so friggin' random, it seems. Annoying!

Ya. Mine has been glitching as well. And when it unlocks it's at the end of which off season activities?? 1st or 2nd off season screen?

Is it possible to have the CPU assistance do it for you with a #1 ranked team?

I believe it is; however, your success will be minimal at best. Manually recruiting, making telephone calls, scheduling visits on a winning game week, and making promises tailored to players' personal preferences is the best way to insure unlocking the achievement. Using the CPU is a hit-or-miss solution (mostly miss).

Are you actually recruiting or simming the process? I failed the achievement on my first attempt because I did not make telephone calls, coaches visits, player visits, and scholarship offers. If you are recruiting and failing, try manually recruiting until the final week (avoid simming totally). Also, if you have done all of the recommended items, you might try erasing your cache and starting over. Good luck!

Yes I make the phone calls and offer scholarships myself all way up until week 5 and I always have the number one class. Only after the recruiting do I sim the remaining off season tasks. How do I go about clearing my cache? Thank you

Yeah, I just experienced exactly what BillJones is saying. I kept getting lazy and not wanting to do all that crap so I would bail early and just start letting the CPU do it. I finally did it like suggested in the guide and it worked. 2 things I would add though.

1. Like I found in another thread somewhere I made scholarship offers at the start of the season (I used Florida) to every prospect that had the team ranked as their first choice. I was too lazy to keep reloading if they said no but still got a few to agree before the season started.
2. Don't bail early! After simming and having a perfect season I went to recruiting and saved. By the end of the 3rd week of recruiting I was 17th and by the end of the 4th I moved up to 5th. For some reason I had a bunch of people that ranked the team as #1 but wouldn't commit until the last week. A few times I got lazy and just let the computer do it without making the calls/offering scholarships/scheduling visits and it didn't work.

Tried the above method and I seemed to always lose the #1 spot weeks 5 or 6. So I did something different.

In the main menu go to Team Management and edit the following teams highest rated WR / HB / QB to really bad stats.

Alabama
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Florida
Georgia
LSU*
Notre Dame*
Penn State*
*Optional as these teams usually recruit really well

Now edit Texas's team and max out the stats for the QB / WR / HB / LOLB / DE

Now sim the season till the end and 95% of the time you will win all of your games and have a #1 recruiting class at the end of the season. Now in the off season create a save and sim till the end of the recruitment phase and check if your in the #1 spot [which you should be if you followed this guide]. If you're not in the #1 spot reload the save and do it again...

This worked 1st try, great solution. It did take a bit of time but well worth it, I had poor luck with other methods. One thing worth noting to reduce time, make sure you only drop the stats that matter...like speed, agility (like don't bother lowering defensive stats on offensive players & vice versa) and whatever their position specific skills are. I definitely didn't lower all the player stats and it still worked. Also did not bother lowering Notre Dame or Penn State. Thanks for a great solution!

You dont need to be a top 5 or win every single game to get the achievement(helps a little but not a lot)

I used the Miami Hurricanes. I always get #1 recruiting class in my dynasties. I usually only have 0-2 losses in a season. As for recruiting I go for players that are in my Pipeline State. Usually Florida, Louisiana, Texas, California. Make sure that the recruit is interested in you(green circle). I usually fill up my recruiting board with my team needs mostly 4-5 stars. I only go after 15 players so I can use more time on less players. I switch it in the options so the CPU doesnt change my board. During the season i always use quick call for 20-30 per recruit keep doing this the rest of the season except when i need to schedule a visit in which case always schedule a visit against a rival or a conference team. You can look it up in game to find out if you dont already know those. I always have my recruits come on 1-2 different days. Its pretty much guaranteed that you will get a couple of 5 star recruits, I usually get 5-7 recruits to commit. When the season is over and you advance to the offseason recruiting, new recruits are added. The CPU never goes after the recruits that are added when you quick call them so that pretty much guarantees that you will get 5 or more new recruits to commit

When you're recruiting, you'll want to go after as many five-star and four-star recruits as you can. The more you get, the higher your recruiting class rank will be. The bigger schools have a better chance of recruiting four and five-star players than the smaller schools. Make sure you pay attention to your in season recruiting to try and land more five-star recruits. I made the 5-star recruits who had my school as their top school were my top priority. I focused on signing as many of them as I could. Once they started committing, I started to turn my attention to the 4-star recruits. I ignored the games and focused solely on recruiting.

If you have the #1 class during in season recruiting, then save before you start the off season and play through it. If you don't get the #1 class, then quit, reload, and try again.

Note: This trophy won't unlock until about halfway through the offseason.

Tip from Cauchy and OldSnoova (this applies to Sip Some Texas Tea and Mr. February):
From the main menu, go to Team Management, then View and Edit Rosters. Once there, modify the top five Texas player's stats to the max. Now, start and sim through to the second season with Texas. The first trophy should pop just before the start of the second season. Now, in season two, go to the recruiting menu and go to the recruiting board. Remove all the players and then exit and go to add every available player a neighboring state (I think I picked Louisiana). Finally, sim all the way to the third season. The second trophy should pop just before the start of the third season. Two trophies, and we've yet to play the game.
