How to unlock the Read and React achievement in NCAA Football 13 - Definitive Guide
As Blaze said, use Texas and make your SS maxed out on all the stats you need. Don't forget to include catching since you need to catch the ball. Make him 7 foot tall. Speed is needed also. Here's where I differ from his. Instead of editing the stats on the HB, I went to every CB, FS and SS ( Other then the SS your going to use of course ) and made their speed somewhere between a 0-10 so the WR could easily outrun them.
Start your RTG game on Freshman then edit the sliders as Blaze said ( INT's to 100, AI Pass Blocking to 100 and QB Accuracy to 40)
Now go into Practice. Instead of going to the in of scrimmage waiting for a HB Screen I went back to the endzone. Since all of your defensive backs have horrible speed the WR can outrun them easily and it will be a 1 on 1 matchup for you. This will also make the QB throw to them since they seem to never throw your way otherwise. Usually the QB overthrows them by a few feet and if you time it correctly, right into your SS's hands.
Be sure to pull the left trigger to start Reaction Time when the ball is in the air also.
Hope this helps! Helped me get mine.
First, I will tell you the way I got the achievement. I created a player for RTG and started him in high school. I made him a CB, any changed his height to 7'0. I went and changed:
- Difficulty to Freshman
- Interceptions to 100
- QB Throwing Accuracy to 45
Start up the first game of the season and start running plays. DO NOT MANUALLY COVER THE RECEIVER/TIGHT END, have the CPU do the coverage for you. Once you see the orange circle where the ball is thrown hold LT, and once the ball is close hit Y. This is the key to the achievement. Like the achievement "Tire Fire Offense," EA kind of hides the meaning of what you have to do in the achievement. Before I got the achievement, I got an interception using reaction time, and it didn't pop.
The way to get the achievement is AS SOON AS THE QB RELEASES THE BALL, go into reaction time. Don't let the QB pass it and wait until the last second, that is what I did on my first interception and it didn't pop. Don't do it from the start of the play, because that way I've heard is more consistent. I am not saying that those two ways to react reaction time don't work, but waiting for the QB to release the ball will give you a much higher chance of intercepting the ball.
Good luck!
Here's how I got it:
Went to Texas' Roster and maxed out the SS on all appropriate attributes (remember to max out his catching attributes too, not just his defensive ones). Also changed his height to 7'0". I also maxed out the attributes for the starting RB. Obviously save the roster.
Start up RTG choosing to use existing player. Choose that SS for Texas that you just maxed out. Set it to Freshman difficulty level. Also set your interception slider to 100. For the AI, set pass blocking to 100. I also bumped down passing accuracy to 40.
Now, I went to practice. It could be just coincidence, but because I maxed out the RB, the majority of the plays were run through the RB. I crept up to the line of scrimmage, looking for a screen pass to the RB. After about 10 reps, they ran several screen plays in a row. As you see the pass going to the RB, simultaneously run to intercept it as you hold the LT down to turn on the Reaction Time. If you intercept it, the achievement pops.
NOTE: There were other things I had done in preparation for working on this achievement. Texas first opponent is Wyoming. When editing the rosters at the beginning, I also had went to the Wyoming roster, lowered the speed attribute for all WRs to 60, lowered the arm strength attribute for all QBs to 60, and then lastly maxed out the pass blocking attributes for all the starting offensive lineman (the premise behind all of that is to make wide receivers slow, the quarterback throw weak passes, yet their offensive line block great, to cut down on the chances of a sack). But, it never came to playing that first game since I unlocked it in practice.
Hope this helps.
Here's what I did:
I followed everything that TwHu told us in his solution. Then started up practice. If you don't get it in the first 25 reps of practice, do not quit out of RTG and reload the save. I advanced the week, tried practice again for week two. I finally got it to pop my first rep of practice in week two. Before trying this method (and only doing the quit out/reload or finish practice/reload RTG method) I had nearly 50 INTs and 6 hours easily of this logged. This method took me no more than 10 minutes to knock out.
Hope this helps all those who are struggling with this achievement. Thanks TwHu and and cB BaRriiCAdE for your info on getting this!
*READ: IMPORTANT* Before you attempt this trophy, go back and check for any saves that have been corrupted. You should see 'Corrupted' in any of the save files you have made. If you do, delete it and then go for the trophy.
Here lies the toughest and most luck-based trophy of the game. You will spend most of your time attempting to get this one. This will require a ton of patience. There are several ways to get this trophy. Here is one solid tip:
From TINxCUP -
1) Pick a team that runs a “Pro” style offense like USC, Texas, or Florida
2) Go to Team Management and edit the roster for your chosen team-
- Set all CB’s and FS’s to zero speed.
- Max out all the attributes of one of your SS’s
- Zero out the speed of the remaining SS’s (If any)
3) Start a New Road to Glory and “choose an existing player”
- Select the SS that you edited earlier (the one with max stats)
4) Set Difficulty to Freshman
5) Go to Practice-
- Before the ball in snapped, back-peddle to your endzone.
- Once the ball is snapped watch the wide-outs and track any of them that are running deep patterns towards your endzone, the ball will likely be thrown in their direction.
- Because all of the other members of your secondary are so slow, the QB will see open receivers downfield and attempt a bomb to the endzone, where you just happen to be waiting.
- Once you see the QB release the ball, hit to start reaction time, and position yourself just in front of where the ball is heading (usually in the endzone)
- Intercept the pass and don’t let go of until you run out of reaction time.
6) The trophy will pop immediately.
Note - It may take 2 or 3 practices to get this, and about 50% of the time they will call a run play which is of no help to you. Use this strategy and take advantage of every ball thrown your way and you'll unlock this trophy in no time!
Here's a thread where people are offering tips on how to get this bad boy:
read and react
This must be done while playing in Road to Glory Mode, as this is the only mode that allows you to use reaction time as a defensive player. Start up a Road to Glory career and make sure you select a defensive position (CB, FF, SS) when creating your player. Change the height of your created player to 7'0". If you forget to change it the first time, enter the "Change Appearance" menu and you will be able to edit it there. You will also be able to edit your sliders (House Rules) on the "RTG Setup" menu. I suggest having your difficulty set to Freshman and both Injuries and Fatigue set to OFF. For your custom AI, I suggest turning your Interceptions slider to 100. Also, go into the CPU's sliders and change the QB Accuracy to 0.
This achievement will require a lot of luck since you won't always get the ball passed your way. Here's another nice little method you can try to unlock this with.
Go into the "Edit Roster" screen and edit Texas' starting SS. Max out all appropriate attributes such as catching, speed, and awareness. You're also going to want to change his Height to 7'0. Also change the starting RB's attributes (Speed, Awareness, Carrying. Mainly to have a better overall). Now back out and begin your RTG career. Make sure you select 'Use Existing Player' and select the Texas SS that we have just edited. Also set the difficulty to Freshman at the next screen. Once in the RTG Main Menu, go over to the 'System Settings' and set Autosave to OFF, then save your RTG. Also, change the House Rules as so:
User
Interceptions: 100
CPU
QB Accuracy: 40
Pass Blocking: 100
The easiest way to unlock this is by playing the practices during the weeks. It saves a lot of time instead of trying to unlock it during the games.
I unlocked this by positioning my player directly behind the defensive line. The Quarterback usually passes a lot of slant passes that you will be able to pick off real easy. As soon as the Quarterback makes his pass, enter into reaction time and break to the ball. Do NOT activate reaction time as soon as the ball is hiked, because if you do, the achievement will not unlock.
Another easy way: (This is using the same method as before with editing your stats.)
Now, I went to practice. It could be just coincidence, but because I maxed out the RB, the majority of the plays were run through the RB. I crept up to the line of scrimmage, looking for a screen pass to the RB. After about 10 reps, they ran several screen plays in a row. As you see the pass going to the RB, simultaneously run to intercept it as you hold the down to turn on the Reaction Time. If you intercept it, the achievement pops.

User Andrew x360a adds:
This needs to be the first or last achievement that you go for in the game. It’s reported to be exceedingly glitchy. I personally completed the requirements for it four different times before I got it to unlock on the fifth interception. The major issue appears to be the presence of other saves in the game. If you don’t unlock it straight away upon starting the game, wait until the end so you can delete everything. Here’s how I finally unlocked the achievement:
- I deleted everything related to the game, including the title update, off my hard drive. The only thing remaining on the drive was the installed game. Upon starting the game up again, I declined the tuning update, so I had to play offline.
- Pick Texas Tech as your favorite team.
- Go to the “Edit Rosters” tab in the main menu and find FS#3. Edit his sliders so that he’s 99 in every category.
- Use RT to change over to the corner backs (CB). Edit the sliders so that their Speed, Acceleration, and Jumping abilities are all 0. Also change all of them to 5’5” tall. Use RT again to switch to the wide receivers (WR). Edit the sliders so that their Jumping is 0 and make them all 5’5” as well.
- Exit the Edit Roster screen and the game will auto save. This is fine. Start up a new Road to Glory game and choose “Use Existing Player”. Select FS#3 as your player. Set the difficulty to Freshman.
- In the RTG menu, go to “Road to Glory Settings”. Turn “Injuries” and “Fatigue” off. Edit the sliders so that the User Interceptions is at 100 and the CPU is 0 in everything except Pass Blocking. You want that to be 100. The idea there is to prevent sacks and give the quarterback enough time to pass the ball.
- Go to Practice in Week 1. As soon as the ball is snapped, backpedal to a spot between the end zone and the 5 yard line, just to the right of the right hash mark. Anywhere from two to five times a practice, the quarterback will throw a deep pass approximately to this spot. It happens most often when there are three wide receivers lined up on that side. As soon as the ball is in the air, hit LT to enter Reaction Time, and run to the orange circle on the ground where the ball is headed. When it gets close to you, hit Y to intercept it while still holding LT. Keep holding LT and the achievement should pop as soon as you catch the ball.
I tried a number of different combinations that failed to unlock the achievement even when I caught the ball on four different occasions. Using this approach with deleting everything and playing offline, it unlocked on my very first interception.
If you don’t get it in the first practice, just sim to the second week and go to practice again. Do not turn off auto save and try to reload your RTG. This may corrupt your save. You have over a dozen practices over the course of the season, so you have you plenty of opportunities to go for the achievement.
