How to unlock the Hit The Ceiling achievement in Need for Speed - Definitive Guide

Hot Rod update broke all the old methods. The fastest method is now to complete the new race Speed Tunnel. It rewards 20k rep for a 30 second race. Sorry cry

Here's the old solution:

This is a pain with all the glitches being fixed now... There's no way you will get to level 70 if you complete all the events...
So, I tried some things out. Trying to get my car get stuck on objects etc, nothing works.
But apparently, you can get 300 REP when doing donuts. I rubber banded my controller (left stick and RT) and kept doing donuts.
Every 10 seconds or so you get 300 REP.
1 hour will give you roughly 108000 REP.

This is a great way if you don't want to grind to REP 70, but VERY VERY time consuming. cry
I will do this for 1-2 hours every day while completing the daily challenges. Currently at rank 59 so still a long way to go...

@Dylan from what I can gather you get a cop to chase you to that destination and just drift around in circles.

Correct. Drift in circles.

Oh you get knocked out all the time. Just start a new drift. Drifting isn't what's important anyway until the last 30 minutes or so (you get more points over time - it takes 10 min to get 100k at the start and 10 seconds at 2 hours).

Anyway, I had the bar 75% towards drift. Just practice a bit and you'll get used to it. The lotus was fully upgraded but that isn't important.

I found using Ken Blocks car the easiest for drifting, also using all your NOS in one go is really quick with this car and get's you to a x3 really quickly.

By on 10 Dec 2015 20:34
Yeah ^^ Kens car is definitely the best for drifiting. Unless of course you can tune your own ride to have the same or even better drifting mechanics.

I'm not sure I understand this solution. My score doesn't consistently go up while being chased by the cops. Is it only a combination of things, like being chased while drifting? Also, after about 10 minutes or so the cop car just disappears and I go into cool down - is this a bug?
0
0
By on 11 Dec 2015 22:40
It does increase slowly over time. In my video you can see I'm getting 20k (before 2x bonus) per cop chase bonus (which happens every 5-10 seconds). When you start, you only get like 300.

The cop disappearing is a bug.

No the drift is totally irrelevant. Drift gets you like 500 if you do it for a minute. You're drifting for the 2x multiplier. The points come from the cop chase.

New method for leveling up. You don't have to do anything at all. Leave the game once you've done the glitch and just come back later ;)

The Speed Tunnel Race takes almost exactly 90sec for one cycle (incl. loading screens) for roughly 25.000 points.
When you've finished the game you should be around level 50 (this includes Eddie's extra missions), which is at around 6.500.000 points. You need around double that for level 70.

So, you'll have to do Speed Tunnel ca. 260 times. That's 6.5h of doing the same exact thing over and over again!!!

You should aim for prestige completion - at least Basic Bronze - while doing this, those races can give you about 65K according to one of my Autolog records. Better medals give you better rewards but completing all the events first is probably wiser than wasting a day (or week, let's be honest) trying to get gold on one.

Speed Tunnel is found in the South-West location of the map on a yellow-marked road (the highway) on the map, by the way. Prestige must be turned off to find it. The icon is a white circle with 2 flags. It's probably wise to include this information in the solution.

You basically just have to get a decent REP from each drift. Anything 10k upwards. Think my highest was something like 300k in one drift but you shouldn't get that high in case you crash and lose it. So get small amounts, bank your score then drift again. On average, 30-40k REP per drift is easily enough.

EuryDace has a very nice guide, but for people like me who has a bit of trouble holding a clean drift around circles for awhile without hitting a cop or messing it up, this wasn't doing it for me very well.

Here's what I ended up doing and it actually seemed pretty fast and easy, it nets in around at least 100k every 3 minutes if you do it right (shouldn't be difficult) I won't claim it's the best method but I believe it is a pretty good one (imo) and worked good for me.

Sorry in advance for the long reading!

*THIS IS BEST DONE WITH A FAST CAR THAT CAN HIT 0-60 VERY FAST*
What I did is from the garage, go left around the corner and straight down the road, over the bridge (Los Sol Bridge) and to the left should be a police station (if a cop is there, you're in luck!) If you're still having trouble finding it, look just left of the garage for "Macdermid's MileMile(Hard)" on the map. I kinda show the location at the end of the video below.

This is where it gets fun, you don't absolutely need a cop but it makes it faster. From the top of the bridge, sprint to the other end just past the police station (or until you see the "high speed" multiplier) then hit the e-brake to do a 180 (try not to over turn for more) and turn around (so you get a "drifting" multiplier). Come to a complete stop so you can start to get another 0-60 multiplier and speed off back to the bridge until you see another "high speed" multiplier then e-brake back around, get the drifting multiplier again, rinse and repeat over and over. Btw, most of these points come from the 0-60 multiplier so get it when you can!

EDIT: Thank you TONI III04 for this tip. If you want another multiplier, go for the "Perfect Nitrous" multiplier. This is best done with either the nos tuning set to full power or having a low capacity tank (or both options)
I didn't think of this cause when I did this I had a lot of duration on mine and it didn't drain by the time I needed to turn around so make sure you don't have a long Nos duration for this like I did.

With a cop you can get even more multiplier to help and possibly keep the score from ending and if you can get any near misses, go for it! But don't hit civilian cars or they will just be obstacles in the way. From my experience, you can hit a cop as fast as you can go and you wont crash so smash them if you want to for another multiplier if you want. Keep this up and do it right and you'll be getting at least 100k in 3 minutes easily.

If you start getting a lot of cops like, lets say.. 5+ and they block the road a lot, run for it and come back later, you don't want to get busted or the fines will be pretty hefty but if you escape then that's money for you to get.

For me, I used a maxed out GTR Premium with extreme grip tires but had tuning around 30% to the left for a bit of drift. This car (at least mine) has 1233hp and 0-60 in 1.67s, but you can use whatever as long as you have a fast car.

By the time I needed to grind to 70, I was rep level 55 or so and had already done all events, so this can be waited on for awhile, while you go through the story and you'll get good cars by then anyways so money wouldn't be bad. Don't forget to do dailies!

This is a little clip I made to kind of give an idea of what i'm talking about, plus some people prefer video (this is my first guide btw)

Oh, thanks! I forgot to mention that! I didn't even think of it cause my nos had a lot of duration so it never drained before I had to u-turn again. I'll add that in.

I also used this style to get the points And I would like to add the possibility to use nitrous also to get REP. Therefore its needed to use aroundhalf of the nitrous to get the "perfect nitrous" bonus perhaps every second or third time you get the 0-60 multiplier.

It also brings just around 200 points each but when done often enough there should some thousands of points get scored with.

LuckyConquerer2, I just redownloaded the game and tested it out on a fresh account as of today (10/18/2016) and it still works perfectly fine. There must be something you're doing wrong, perhaps slow vehicle or not keeping up the multipliers? Either way, it is not patched. Yet.

In order to reach level 70 you will need to earn a total of 13,420,000 REP. This is an increase of roughly 7.4 million REP from level 50. This is quite a grindy achievement but there are a couple choices on how to earn this,

The first method is to simply find a quick and easy event that rewards a decent amount of REP. One of the best events for this is the "Fueled for the Fire" (Hard) Time Trial event. You can earn roughly 40,000 REP in this event every 2 minutes including loading times. That's 200,000 REP every 10 minutes, 1.2 million REP an hour. 7,400,000 million REP in little over 6 hours, but this is assuming you're already at level 50 from finishing the base game.

The second method is considerably faster, which takes just 2 hours to go from level 50 to 70, but is more skill focused. The first thing you will want to do is find a cop. The easiest way to start a pursuit whilst in freeroam is to travel to the location shown below to the south side of the map, where a police cruiser will always be patrolling the area under the highway bridge (if not, then drive away and return until it shows up).

Once in a pursuit head near the bottom left of the map between El Rey and Franklin Terrace areas, there's a Touge event called "Use It Or Lose It" (Easy). You will want to lead the pursuit to this event location without getting busted. Once you have reached the location, there will be a large roundabout, your goal is to constantly drift around this roundabout whilst in the chase, this will allow for a large 2x boost for REP (for cop chase and drifting skills). The cop will not get in your way so you can easily concentrate on drifting, any semi-upgraded car is suitable. Make sure not to get into a major crash that shows the mini crash cutscene or you will lose all your REP.

The below video shows a visual guide to the method. Video credits goes to Eurydace Gaming.
