How to unlock the Another Man's Treasure achievement in Need for Speed Payback - Definitive Guide

This can seem fairly intimidating when you first get a derelict, but it becomes more grind than anything.

The first step is to find a derelict car. You unlock the ability to find certain ones after quest chains. Find the chassis and the parts, and you'll unlock:
Need for Speed PaybackOne Man's TrashThe One Man's Trash achievement in Need for Speed Payback worth 40 pointsAssemble a Derelict car

Refer to the solution written by NE0182 in the 'One Man's Trash' achievement that has all the videos with timestamps on where to find all the parts.

Next step is to go to your garage and choose what type of car you want it to be. Choose carefully, as you can't switch after. Whatever choice you make is going to set certain defaults for the car, and lock it to only doing those specific races. I personally chose a runner with the Ford Mustang because I needed a good Runner anyway.

Now for the grind. The only real way to go about this is picking up the tune up cards in the shop or in races. Your derelict is going to start with stock 1's in everything. Use trade in cards to get roulette style parts you need, or just buy them when the shop restocks. The best way, however, is the speed cards at the end of races. Your car has a performance level (starting at 100) and the level of cards you get is directly related to the cards you have and that level. Currently, there's no way to use another car for higher level cards to use on the weaker car. You just have to work your way up. So if you all 1's, the shop will stock 1-3 range, and you'll be rewarded that range at the end of races no matter what race you do.

As you start getting higher level cards, you'll start getting higher level rewards, and you'll eventually work your way all the way up. Since this achievement requires level 399 anyway, just keep this car and use it on all the associated races in the story to keep upgrading it. You'll get the achievement when all of your cards are level 18.

A great race I found for the runner car to grind is the Carville Trial, unlocked during the runner questline in Chapter 4. This race is found in the lower right of the map, near two drift events and another runner event. This race is just a Point A to Point B race that guides you on a rather short and simple path. There is a gas station a little south and west from the start point that's very close to fast travel back to. The time is generous, and there isn't really anywhere to really mess up. The side bets are rather easy as well, including 'Avoid all cars', 'Destroy X objects' and 'Drive clean for X seconds', for example. The side bets give a lot of money, about enough to where you can afford an additional card from the shop and get the free card from the race. If the card you get in the race isn't good enough, trade it in.

Choosing drag can be easier if you've mastered shifting. Any of the races that feature best two or best three will work. Start at the lower level ones and work your way up to more profitable races when your car is strong enough. Most of the side bets require wheelies. If your car has a high enough performance, it will do it automatically, and you'll know it when you see it.

You'll also get two other achievements from grinding the race.
Need for Speed PaybackThe StrategistThe The Strategist achievement in Need for Speed Payback worth 36 pointsGrind a previously won narrative event for Speed Cards

Need for Speed PaybackScrappy RacerThe Scrappy Racer achievement in Need for Speed Payback worth 20 pointsWin an event using a Derelict car

If anyone has suggestions for races to grind for the other classes of cars, leave a comment and I'll add it to the solution.

One thing I'd note is that for me personally this wasn't a grind at all. The only "grind" for me was sitting in the tuning shop pressing the A button while spinning the wheel with my tuning parts. I played the game on easy so like I had zero issues winning races (until the stupid drag race boss in the last chapter), so I got by by simply buying a car a tier up above the one I was using once it was unlocked, along with whatever speed cards I had won during races. Because of this, by my end game I had 100+ tuning parts from like over 30 free base crates I had unlocked through gameplay. Each crate guarantees 4-6 tuning parts. So if you're like me, odds are you'll have a surplus after the story. What I did was buy low level parts and spin the wheel to fill the spot that was my lowest level. Long story short, the higher your cars level, the better cards you get, and that's the only way that happens. Even the slightest bump from level 298-301 is the difference between level getting a level 10-12 part and a level 14-15 part. I could go into more detail but idk how many people played the game the same way I did lol. If you did you're in luck because it's a hell of a lot easier with a surplus of FREE tuning parts. I should absolutely clarify I didn't spend a penny on this method.

Oh really? Neat. You don't really need all of them though. To get all the achievements you only need the Bel Air, and for this solution you only need one in general.

To make it a lot easier: You can buy the pack with every part being stock 16 (180.000$). After that, all the parts to buy are at least 16, most 17 or 18.

Hello, I found how to glitch this achievement by accident. Let me explain how I just unlocked it without having a Derelict car to 399:

I was about to start a race for grinding this particular achievement.
My Chevo Bel Air was about level 344 something like this. I was going to the race with my Koenigsegg Regera- who is actually level 399. Arrived to the race (an off-road race) as I was in a race car the game asked me to switch car category with RB to participate. l chose my Bel Air who is level 344 and started the race. And then the achievement just popped up during loading screen when you can place a bet !! Don't even need to complete the race.

Then if you have a 399 car you can unlock this achievement by switching to a derelict car before a race.

That was how I optain this achievement. I don’t know if this was a bug from my game or if this achievement is glitched. Please try this way and let me know if it worked for you as well.

[EDIT] Glitch fixed! cry

Thanks

First of all don't try this achievement early in campaign. In chapter five there will be pack avaiable at mechanic store bringing you lvl 16 stock parts, making your grind far shorter. To get car to 399 you need to fit lvl 18 parts in all slots, no matter the brand, they can be even stock ones.
I made one of my derelict cars drag one and used race from NE of map to get best parts, you cna also buy them random ones at store .

It comes out as a bug. I'm not sure it always works. I switched in the garage from a car with a performance level of 399 to a relic with a lower rating and the trophy dropped.

The only option to save your nerves is to first upgrade the desired Nissan to level 380+, and then start joining the club...

If you are aiming for platinum and have the game on disk, and don’t want to bother leveling up relics using a switching bug, then don’t update the game, do all the trophies offline, and then update the game. I left this bug for the last minute, I thought that I would delete all the updates and take advantage of this bug, but that was not the case, the game version 1.0 just hangs on loading saves. from 1.07

If the bug does not work, we assemble a Chevrolet Bel Air 1955 for drifting and go to a drift race around the block, the race is for 2 minutes, there, without investment, you can upgrade the car to 399 by constantly passing the track, if you want it faster, you can periodically move to the workshop and buy cards 2-3 lvl higher and then after passing the Route, cards will fall out at a higher lvl

The easiest way is to immediately buy a level 16 leveling kit for $180,000, so the performance of the relic will become 366, and then use cards to reach level 399
