How to unlock the Racer Rank 40 achievement in Need for Speed Rivals - Definitive Guide
For racer, there are 20 tiers of missions, each has 3 assignments you can pick. Racer choices are Race, Pursuit, and Drive.
Racers have 4 different types of Missions: Interceptor, Race, Hot Pursuit, and Time Attack.
Interceptor the easiest mode. You want to use Shockwave and Electrostatic Field(ESF) and just wreck the cop, don't run from him.
Races have you just racing other racers, but cops will join in based on heat level. These can get a bit frustrating once you get to the medium and hard difficulty as you are relying a lot of cop interference then you are actual driving performance. Easy you race 3 opponents, medium 4, hard 5.
Hot Pursuit are very similar to racers, except the cops are chasing you from the start of the event.
Time Attack are straight forward events that have you going from point A to B. The times can be very strict so typically if you crash more then 2 or 3 times, you won't get a gold time.
When picking assignments, from easy to hard, you want to pick Interceptor, Time Attack, Hot Pursuit, Races. Also, for the assignments that require you to earn a certain amount of money in a session, find an interceptor near a repair station and do it several times. This also works for assignments that require you to reach a HEAT level.
As you go through the story you can only pick one assignment at each tier of the story, putting you at level 21 when you beat the game. At this point, the game will let you go back and do the other 2 assignments for each tier.
You will receive rank 20 achievement for unlocking the final assignment.
You will receive rank 40 achievement for finishing 40/61 assignments.
You will receive rank 60 achievement for finishing 60/61 assignments.
Extra: For people who are having issues with the save glitch, the best method I have found to work is when you are done playing the game. Go to your home screen, open the start menu over the game and click the quit option. Once I started doing this every time I was done playing, I never had it lose progress.

I had to get to rank 41 for this to pop for some reason. Never had any issues with any other ranks but thought Id mention it as I was losing my mind thinking it was glitched for good.

After getting level 20, you will be required to completet the last 'story based' race which is a hot Pursuit called 'Grand Tour. And if you plan to get to level 60, you MUST get a gold on this race twice!
This race is no joke. It is by far twice as hard as anything else in this entire game.
First off, I want to state this race is luck based, taking an averages 10-12 minutes to complete (over 40km). The reason I believe it to be luck based is that many random things can happen; cop cars can spawn directly in front OR on top of you and when you have a race this long, so many random things can happen that will screw your race up completely. The cops severely trash your car at the end stretch as well, and sometimes they don't. Other races can crash, and sometimes they don't.
Recommended Tech: ESF and Shockwave
Recommended Car: Don't use the fastest car, Try using the F12
Recommended Upgrades: Everything level 5
NOTES ON TECH: I tried using the turbo with the fastest car I had but I found the other racers were partially scaled to my car. When I swtiched out turbo to fight the cop swarm at the end, and used the F12, I found the other racers were less challenging. And honestly, Jammer is a waste since you can easily recover when they EMP you.
During the end of the race, the last 4-5 miles, you will have a swarm of cops attempting to run you off the road. I found it best to have 2 offensive techs for this. It was also beneficial when a racer snuck up behind you, the shockwave pushed them back and I was able to keep the lead.
If you are behind, don't worry. The game is designed to have the drive ahead of you slow down or crash if you have a decent sprint without any crashes. The better you drive WITHOUT crashing the worse the AI drives.
I recommend you KNOW where all gas stations are. There are 7 before the city and one afterwards. Try to use all of them.
Lastly, upgrade every performance part on your car to level 5. It is very easy to farm a interceptor event that is near a repair shop. Start the event, trash the cop and repair. Repeat as many times as needed to get those upgrades. For this, you should equip SHOKWAVE and ESF.
PRO TIP: Before you press to start a race or time trial, you can use TURBO (assuming you have installed it of course) and then immediately press which will shoot you forward as you start the race. This worked well for the Grand Tour, and many other events. HOWEVER, it doesn't work for them all. Occasionally you will crash (but even then it sets you ahead of the other racers) BUT BUT BUT sometimes it puts you out of the race and screws with your green trail marker. However, this only happens 10% of the time it seems, so it was worth it to me for a few failed attempts.
