MISSABLE
This is the race event before you can start you carreer!
It's very easy to get 2nd place but the first is much harder, because the first one ist very fast, and your gt-r turns out very fast, in the race i finaly beat it, i got the first palce in the first round. But you can restart the race over and over from PAUSE MENUE - after the race you will not be able to repeat it!
If you have missed it at your carrer start (like me) you have to transver (not copy) your save game to (usb)memoryunit and plug off the MU -> so you can start a new carrer - after you have beaten the race - you can delete this save - and transfer the one from MU back to HDD

Thanks for this! i didn't even realise there was an achievement for winning that. As most people did i came second and didn't really think to restart the race :S

As mentioned in the guide above, this acheivement is MISSABLE.
I have gotten this with several acct's (in order to boost King Of The Hill with 2 real people) and by far the easiest way to do it is.
During the first 2 "hot laps" you have to do
1. switch the camera to chase cam
2. only beat the easy time on purpose
3. only beating the easy time lets you race against "easy" opposition in the next race and with chase cam you should nail them easily enough.
Then bingo the achievement is yours.
You still end up with the achievement and $20,000 to spend on cars whether you beat the easy, medium or hard hot lap time, but by only doing the easy time you get to race easy cars in the important MISSABLE achievement race that follows.
If you decide to beat the hard time as I did with this my main acct, then expect a few retries to come 1st in the following race
Remember you can restart the race if you have a nightmare and make sure you chose the driving options that suit your style after finishing the hot lap and before starting the race..

If you missed the achievement and have live, you can have your real save on your hard drive, and when the game loads up select the cloud. This will create a new save, then beat the challenge.

Career mode starts with two trial laps after which the game provides you with suggested difficulty settings. This is then followed by a two lap race which you MUST win if you want to earn the PSN trophy/XBox achievement. If it seems you will NOT win the race (ie not in the lead before the final turn of lap 2 into the finish straight) then Pause and restart the race. You can keep doing this until you win* and unlock the "Proving Grounds" trophy.
[* Note: As illogical as it seems for a trial event that supposedly eases you into the game this first race can be very difficult to win as the default opponent AI setting is Medium. If like me you went for your best time in the two lap trial the opponent AI will reflect that. To keep the opponent AI in Easy giving you an almost foolproof chance of getting this trophy here's what you do: BEFORE you begin the career mode go to the options menu and manually set and save the AI difficulty to EASY and the driver handling to NOVICE and then deliberately get poor lap times in the evaluation trial. You then should have Easy AI opponents and win the race. IF YOU DON'T do that once you start the tutorial, you are locked at medium difficulty until after the race. You can readily change your driver capability and opponent AI difficulty after the trophy pops. Yes, totally counter-intuitive but that's how I finally won a race that was frustrating me no end, never getting better than 3rd place despite being ranked Experienced, and got the trophy.]
If, like me, you were unaware of this and you missed this trophy you will need to backup your current save file and then delete it from your console and start the game all over: redoing your controller setup, doing the trial laps and race (until you win it).
