How to unlock the Road to Glory achievement in Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed - Definitive Guide
If like me, you fail miserably at drifting. You might want to jump in an R32. Works convert it and smash McNamara to bits.
Just podium enough "Retro" races to unlock him first.
Sure, you'll still have to nail your corners. But the R32 is so much more powerful you can make the odd mistake and still win easily.
You don't have to win every race. But with a works converted R32 you should breeze them all.
Happy Hunting :)
(This can be done on any difficulty)

This event can be found under the level 5 tab in career mode, under the "Drift" heading.
To unlock the rival race, you must earn 20 podiums at events in this drift category.
Once the 20 podium finishes are earnt (1st,2nd or 3rd), the event will unlock.
The actual rival race is called "The Final Slide", and comprises of 4 races against your rival and other AI opponents.
As for winning the tournament, there are 4 races, and points are awarded for each place you finish in. You can check your progress on the series standings tab after each race.
You do not need to win all 4 events to win the championship, just be the overall winner at the end of the 4th.
This can be done on any difficulty.
As for drifting tips, its all about trying to drift for as long as you can at once to bump up the multiplyer. Practice a bit, and try to see where you can get around 3-4 corners in a single drift, and this will be no problem.

The first opponent is the drift champion (Vaughn Gittin, Jr. - Drift Branch) it’s best not to start with him, but start with the second (Darren McNamara - Retro Branch) before competing with him, you need to go through qualifying races, when you defeat him you will be given an achievement and he will give you his Toyota Corolla, it will appear in your garage, in my opinion this is the most suitable car for drifting, I advise you to use it for passing.
