The Purple Pauper
Beat the game having collected less than 1,000 lucre.
The achievement is for collecting less than 1,000 lucre (AKA gold/money) throughout the game. I can confirm that when you die you can pick up gold you have dropped, so it seems that you must complete the game without your total gold on you character raising above 1,000. Since you cannot collect gold, that means you cannot purchase upgrades and therefore I recommend you go for the no-upgrade achievement alongside this achievement.
Below is the gold that I had as i completed each level, use it for reference:
Macro City - Level 1 - 125 Lucre out of 1,000
Insektia - Level 2 - 235 Lucre out of 1,000
Winterdown - Level 3 - 380 Lucre out of 1,000
Sukochi - Level 4 - 490 Lucre out of 1,000
Heartless Abyss - Level 5 - 500 Lucre out of 1,000
Adept Co. - Level 6 - 810 Lucre out of 1,000
Rattletrack Rails - Level 7 - 870 Lucre out of 1,000
Bramble Flats - Level 8 - 925 Lucre out of 1,000
A few tips:
If you are at a section where there is a long path of gold, grenade jump over the coins, you will need to be decent at grenade jumping pass/through coins.
For Winterdown, the latter section has a "Runner" section, watch a video to see where the coins are so you can avoid most/jump over most of the coins.
For Adept Co., this is the hardest level in the game, unfortunately during my playthrough I didn't know you could die and respawn and pick up your dropped gold without it counting towards the achievement so I did it deathless. The main problem is halfway through the level for some reason the small gold coins give +10 gold instead of the usual +10 gold. This includes all the gold in the air vent section. Try and land inbetween the columns of gold and pass through them quickly horizontally to avoid most coins, during the mid section with the crown, wait for the small left to pass to the right and grenade jump (by passing several columns of gold).
RattleTrack rails is really easy, just jump over the coins as they come. Bramble flats, use many grenade jumps to avoid the early coins, there are no coins during the ending half of the level. The achievement will pop after you defeat Super Mack.
