How to unlock the Dragon's Bane achievement in Neverwinter - Definitive Guide

Update: Old method works again! Below is the original group method. It can be done solo with very good results (quote courtesy of FrogTheWarrior, with information corroborated by Jappe XBA):

Just got mine today. Knocked out about 480 dragon kills in just over 3 hours. With the new queue system, you can essentially do this solo (with the caveat that you'll need 2 people to queue with you to get you started). The dungeon is extremely doable for a L70 DPS class to go solo, but if you don't put out damage, you'll probably want some comrades.
"Gosh, I killed one dragon and it took FOREVER - I'll never get this achievement!"
First and foremost, this achievement is going to take a long while. It's not short. Luckily, it's also not as long as you fear, either. All told, it should take 15-20 hours of boosting to secure this achievement depending on the quality of your gear. You kill 50-100 dragons per hour.

Here's how it works:
1. Get a group of 5 people. Making a session is ideal. You want a Cleric in the group (if less than 10k gearscore), but a Guardian is totally worthless.

2. Go to normal Caverns of Karrundax. Level 60's can queue for this, but be careful. If someone leaves for any reason, you can't reinvite them - a random player will join instead. He probably doesn't want to grind dragons.

3. Fight all the way to the end. This takes about 15-20 minutes.

4. Now we're at the good part. You want to start the fight with Karrundax and kill the two Dragonlings. Once they're dead, you need to die. All players should stand in fire and kill themselves ASAP. The fight resets.

5. Rinse and repeat 500 times.

Solo?
Yup, this is possible even with mediocre gear at 70.

The Details
Once you get to the fight, killing the Dragonlings should take anywhere between 1-2 minutes. It starts to take longer as you'll get more and more injuries. You can mitigate this a little bit by buying Divine Wound Kits (earned during some weekend events) off the Auction House. Clerics shouldn't bother with these. The injuries have the following effects:

Legs: The dragons melt the steel off your boots; trudging through molten steel makes you slow.
Torso: You lose a substantial amount of HP. Your healer will no longer be bored.
Arms: Remember those sick crits you got at level 30? Well now you get to see those numbers again instead of the level 60 ones.
Head: Your ability cooldowns now last ten minutes instead of ten seconds. That's sarcasm.

You can buy wound kits to deal with this, but it will take 100 gold to buy enough to clear every injury you'll ever get. Most likely, you're too poor and you're stuck fighting with foam swords.

In the end, this method isn't that bad. My initial solution said to commit suicide using the "I Am Stuck" function to kill yourself. Rumor says the devs get a ping every time you do this so they can investigate. Do not do this. Another solution says the developers will not care. Maybe not, but none of us know anything at all. I don't recommend it and you do it at your own risk. Once you learn how to die, it's only marginally faster and you'll still need the same number of sessions. My group had everyone try to die and if they didn't die to the fireballs, then you use "I Am Stuck" to kill yourself to limit the time wasted.

So if you want to take the risk like I did, once you kill the dragons you press cn_start and scroll all the way to the right. Select "I Am Stuck". This will give you the option to kill yourself instantly and respawn at the nearest fire.

Good luck!

"Patching" them not to count can be as easy as changing one character in the game code. I have no clue how this game is coded but that's how it can be in programming.

The solution most likely got downvotes because of the way you write solutions. Is there really any need for the petty little quotes that you have at the top and midway through? Also there are people who vote negative the second someone sees a solution written by someone who doesn't have the achievement

Why is having a Cleric/Guardian a must? I havent played it yet but will do in the future. Since you are going to kill yourself anyway, what is the point of a Guardian/Cleric?

By IDarK VorteXX on 11 Apr 2015 03:25
@IDarK VorteXX I haven't done this yet but I believe its due to the negative effects of 'injuries', the healer can help you stay alive long enough to kill the dragons.

You need a control wizard or a guardian fighter to control the battlefield if you can do that then a healer isn't necessary.

By evilknight23 on 12 Apr 2015 02:22
The dragons don't really melee so a tank of any kind wouldn't really help at all. It's just that sometimes you get hit by fire when you're doing the same thing over and over again.

I doubt this will be patched, it clearly says above the wrymling that it is a red dragon. The achievement is for killing dragons so there's nothing to patch. Also I don't see a way to patch the method without affecting legit groups who get stuck on the boss. Also why do you only kill 2 dragons? Karrundax is one of the easiest final bosses and he spawns 6-7 wrymlings during the fight. Wouldn't it be better to kill all of them then die?
0
0
By Infamous on 15 Apr 2015 14:34
Karrundax takes FOREVER to kill. Also, if you die during the second spawn, the first spawn doesn't Respawn.

First two is by far the fastest.

Also there's lots of dragons in the game that don't count. They must already have an easy way to make them not count. Since that's true, patching these dragons to not count might be easy as well.

By Eurydace on 15 Apr 2015 16:43
Why did they have to make them not count?
0
0
By Apostle92627 on 15 Apr 2015 19:24
Probably because they wanted the achievements to show dedication. They were on PC first (where no one cares) and the dragons didn't count there, either.

By Eurydace on 15 Apr 2015 19:29
The second three dragons dont respawn if you kill them the die. Kurrundax just instantly flies back down.

if one person kills the dragons does it count for everyone? Or is it person specific, who ever lands the kill shot gets the progress?

All kills in the game count for you as long as you were involved in the fight, does not matter who last hits it.

Not sure what's with all the salt, seems like a good solution to me.
Also to the other comments above me, I think you get credit even if you don't hit them as long as you're in the group with someone who does.

This does still work I did a session earlier and I have my final one set for tomorrow also everyone can just use the I am stuck defeat me option countless people use it with no issues and I have been using it for nine hours worth of sessions with no issue this is the recommended means for dying seeing as sometimes if you wait to long and the dragon lands sometimes the wyrmlings won't respawn and you have to run the entire dungeon again.

If you wanna make this a lot easier on yourself, buy a bunch of Divine Injury Kits from the auction house. They're usually pretty cheap. They remove ALL your injuries and give injury immunity for 10 minutes, so they definitely speed the process up significantly.

By Awoo on 29 Apr 2015 05:59
I just dropped in on a group doing it. It was going great until a glitch kept me from respawning for the second time so I gave up. But I went from 19 percent to 26 percent.

Also, save your injury kits. You don't need them for this. Just use them when your done.
0
0
By Apostle92627 on 02 May 2015 02:54
Divine Injury Kits are probably worth it if you do high damage. I know I did about 50% of my group's damage most of the time, so doubling that would have made things substantially faster.

I'm hearing Dragon's Bane is no longer tracking. This COULD be related to Dungeon Mastery and the Scrying Stones one not tracking. I'm jumping on to test it. If I don't see it increase I'll do a second run just to be sure. If it's affected, I will confirm. If not this post will be deleted, unless someone posts after me. If so I will post a confirm or deny.

Surprised no one mentioned this, but you can't respawn because your group pressed the button to re-enter before you respawned. Simply waiting until everyone has respawned before pressing the button will prevent it from happening.

By L J EDM on 06 Oct 2015 21:39
@ L J EDM stronghold will have some dragons, but they will be harder to beat than any of the others in the game so far I believe.

I got this a few months back in the well of dragons when they were really easy to kill and I was actively playing, I still am but WoD is much slower now and depending on time of day etc you might only get 3 or 4 out of 5, but the cult dragons aren't being farmed as much now so WoD the best method currently.

Best thing to do is jump into WoD and see what instances are full but you can still get an invite into, so more than 30 but less than 40, just shout in zone chat for an invite and they will invite you. Don't bother trying in an instance of less than 30, total waste of time and you would be lucky to get 1 or 2 max in the run.

I'm not holding my breath for the dungeons that were removed to come back anytime soon, PC got elemental evil months before xbox and they still don't have them back.

I can confirm that the kills still count! I just played one run of normal Karrundax with my lvl 60 TR on pc and I checked my dragon kills before the dungeon and it was at 13/50 (for the Dragon slayer achievement). After the dungeon it was at 17/50. It will return as a 3-player dungeon but you can walk into it by yourself in Mount Hotenow if you know where the entrance is. With a 70 lvl DPS it will be a breeze through solo (takes probably 5-10 minutes to get to the end) and then just start farming those dragons! Even better if you're a VIP you will not suffer injuries for dying. May 3rd can't come soon enough!

Me and my friend have been doing this in a private, just me and him for almost 19 fucking hours and I am not sure how many dragons we have killed because there is no tracker on PS4 which really fucking sucks. If you go for this achievement/trophy. prepare to grind long and fucking hard. I am not sure what we are doing wrong?

The Siege of Neverwinter event is up again. The dragons in the heroic encounters count for the achievement and you can easily solo them with a half-decent character. Switch between until you find a dragon HE. By the time you are done with the one likely another will have spawned.

A note that due to scaling in dungeons, this may be an absolute pain in the ass if you aren't significantly overlevelled.

I'm down to find a team to boost for this achievement, I'm a 31.4k IL barbarian, soloing is impossible for me since the combat rework. :(

This is suddenly a LOT easier. Go to Well of Dragons and run around for a few hours, killing the groups of drakes. Or go to the drake grounds in your stronghold.

I came across this as well yesterday while doing my weekly haul for the dragobone vale campaign. I was killing trash mobs and HE mobs and I was getting crazy fast progress on the achievement. I'm at about 84% into the achievement. Will finish the rest sometime this weekend. If this is unintentional it be a while hopefully before it's update back to killing actual Dragons :)

Hmm, and now a few hours later I'm not getting any credit for drakes in Well of Dragons. They might have fixed it.

Or maybe not - at the start of this mod I was at 14%, quickly went up to 20% and now the Xbox achievement tracker has me at 20% no matter what. But TA has me at 36% so maybe it is still working.

It's 100% still working. I went from 84% up to 95% yesterday. Could be done, but I have an achievement streak to keep going :)

Well time to calm down in here.smile

I seriously didn't want it to go that far and i wasn't mislead by anybody maybe my post on x360a was interpreted the wrong waycry Was just finfing it selfish that some guy tried to give a pointless solution when he himself got a better one. But well it's just a chievo and in my opinion as TA (and x360a) are communities to help each other get x achievements so i was just pointing out that it's ridiculous to keep things for yourselves as you're yourself part of this community.(by spendin time on here)

Peace and Love to all and happy deagon hunting

Let's just say that I'd try to hurry. I think the devs would patch this (by having Wyrmlings not count) if it was easy. However, they do seem to want to just directly use the patches from the PC version (where it was never and will never be patched). So who knows.

I tossed hate against this solution before, but it does seem to be patched. I had 10 dragons killed before running Karrundax all the way through(no resets). I am only at 11 now.

I'm not at the point in the game where I can try this out, but it looks like a fair amount of people have gotten this in the past day. That tells me that this method still works.

One of them got Dragons on the 24, and Dragon's Bane on the 25th. No way that that is possible without boosting.

Hey, can we put this achievement in the bugged category? I'm reading reports that this achievement isn't working for them (even after the run Karrundax method) while others are saying it is.

I know mine glitched on me for a few hours before fixing itself. I've since got the achievement.

It's not glitched. Just bugged.

Best bet right now is probably farming the heroic encounters with the Heralds of Tiamat in the Well (happens 15 minutes before the hour). You can get up to five dragon kills this way. Alternatively, you can choose to farm the dragons in Neverdeath Graveyard, Ebon Downs, Icespire Peak, Rothe Valley, and Whispering Caverns. Those drop for up to twenty minutes, and then come back twenty minutes after they are defeated (or twenty minutes after they leave if they aren't killed).

The best solution will likely be to wait until Caverns of Karrundax comes back as a reworked dungeon though. Hopefully they don't screw around with it too much and remove the wyrmlings from the boss encounter.

CHapter 4 of the Maze Engine campaign, has groups of Red Dragons - as i have the achievement i dont know whether this works, but you may be able to kill about 30 in a few minutes then zone out and do it again// or repeat kills - Would love to know if this works for people/counter goes up.

UPDATE:
With the Maze Engine update this solution is not valid anymore. The skirmish is can't be accessed anymore.

The Pirate's sky hold skirmish has a dragon to beat at the end.

With a lvl.70 you can solo this skirmish quite easily. I'm a healer and have no troubles. Takes about 5-10min. Just head to pirate's sky hold and talk to the guy with the skirmish icon above his head.

If you're lvl. 40-47 you can queue this skirmish.

Between the waiting times in the well of dragon, you can visit pirate's sky hold and kill this additional dragon. It even gets you some astral diamonds

Definitely the best way I've went through, already at 500+ doing this skirmish, doing it with 2 others, knocking a run out in 3 minutes, very easy.

If you can queue for the skirmishes by talking to the guy is there any reason you couldn't queue for the dungeon by taking a group to the actual entrance? Seems like if you could do that the best bet is still Caverns?

No the Underdark bosses aren't Dragons so they don't count. And I tried walking into Carrundax after they removed it, not possible. But it will return with next module The Maze Engine.

1) That skirmish hasn't existed in years.
2) Caverns of Karrundax has returned and works again so use the other guide.

In Pirate's sky hold you walk up to the campfire and talk to the guy with the skirmish icon above him. He tells you that this skirmish is for lvl.42-45, but if you want you can start it anyway with your current group

THE HARD PART(BELIEVE IT OR NOT)
-Just use the chat box "Looking for Group" in-game, or Neverwinter forums, find a friend.

-This is the fastest way yo can do it, I tested it and kept track.

-3 people do a private queue , 1 leaves or is kicked, you and your friend, stacked with 100's of Potions and Injury Kits, and Stat buff potions.

THE EASY PART
-Enter Karrandax Lair, kill the first 2 dragons and "Defeat self"

-Both of you will respawn outside of the Lair, re-enter and repeat.

-Do not kill Karrandex or anyother enemies it bugs the Grind and Dragons sometimes stop spawning.

-Only kill the first 2 Dragons**"Red Dragons".

-Equip High Armor Penatration gear, A must for speedy grinding.

-You can break it up into 3 days and and only do 2 -3 hours of grinding this.

-On days where your friends can't show up to help you grind, go to Neverdeath graveyard and kill Charandex Dragon he counts to, use the Map Change option and ask "Char up anywhere?" you'l get help from other players calling for Dragon slaying help themselves.

I just got this trophy a few days ago.

THE BORING PART
Time to complete grind: 10 Hours, just have fun and chat with mic's to kill the time....listen to music whatever...it will get a bit boring

To add to this solution:
- As of December 2020 this method still works.
- The dungeon is called “Caverns of Karrundax” and can be easily soloed with a DPS character via private queue.
- There is currently only 1 Wyrmling (small dragon) throughout the dungeon, you will want to head to the very end of the fence on and engage in the boss fight. As soon as you go in, 2 Wyrmlings will be present. Take them out and simply use the “I Am Stuck” then “Defeat Me” from the options and recycle.
- My Rogue could average 100 kills per hour but I had already killed roughly 500 dragons as part of playing normally.

the best way of getting this trophy is to farm the caverns of karrundax. there are about 7 dragons throughout the entire dungeon and takes about 20 mins to complete.

As of December 2020, there is now only 1 Dragon in the dungeon itself. You have to head to the very end at the boss fight and inside the boss room there are 2 small Dragons that begin the fight there. These can be farmed still for the trophy.

Everyone knows what a dragon looks like… it’s just a matter of finding and killing them. Dragons are found in 'Heroic Encounters' and 'Dungeon Delves' mostly. All dragon encounters are level 30'ish to start and increase in difficulty up to level 60. Heroic Encounters are basically an open world event; meaning you can take a group to the area the dragon spawns in and take it down. Even random players in the area can assist with killing the dragon; there is no Queue for HE's. If you want, you can just wait around for people to show up and assist in killing it. Upon death the dragon will re-spawn in 20 minutes. Kill 50 to start and the achievement is yours... only 950 left!

Instance dragon farming: Hopefully you breezed over the roadmap and saw the bit about 'Instances.' This is key to getting a lot of dragon kills in short order. In the main menu under the 'Quest' tab, you should see a title called 'Change Instance'. This allows you to jump to other 'instances' in the same zone. The game is one server, but the players are broken up into these 'instances' so as to not overpopulate the zone. In Heroic Encounter dragon zones, you'll see the chat window light up with people calling out times on dragons with a number; the number is the instance they are in. All instances are on slightly different timers when it comes to dragon spawns, so you can bounce from one to the next killing a dragon in each instance. This is how people are grinding out mass amounts of dragon kills in a short time.

Heroic Encounter Dragons
Charthraxis: Found in Neverdeath Graveyard.
Vartilingorix: Found in Ebon Downs.
Merothrax: Found in Icespire Peak.
Venfithar: Found in Rothé Valley.
Vilithrax: Found in Whispering Caverns.

Well of Dragons Heroic Encounters: (spawn at 45 past the hour and you have 10 minutes to kill all five).
Rogrotus (black dragon)
Kradazuur (blue dragon)
Volzakaris (green dragon)
Hohengroth (red dragon)
Glycamerax (white dragon)
Tiamat: Found in the Temple of Tiamat raid

Dungeon Delve Dragons: Epic Difficulties.
Lostmauth: Lair of Lostmauth (Tyranny of Dragons campaign).

Dragon Farming Strategy: Please see the third post of the Roadmap!

The small dragons in the Cave of Carrundax dungeon also count. As a result, there are 7 dragons for the dungeon, 1 before the boss, 5 during the battle and the boss himself. The dungeon can be completed in 20 minutes

There are also kobolds and giants in Karrundax's cave, which allows you not to bother with them separately

In module 12, they made it possible not to search for a party to launch Karrundax, just select a private one in the queue and launch it. (Everything works, I checked) there is an achievement

I finally finished off these dragons. Spent about 10 hours. Here are my observations.

In the dungeon search, select “private” and go to the “Caves of Carrundax”.
Did it at level 70. I'm a tank in the DD spec. Farming alone is very comfortable.

Let's go to the final boss. In front of him are 2 little dragons. So we will farm them.
First, press "touchpad" on the gamepad and . Let's see how many kills we have at the time we start farming.
There you can see the time spent.

We kill 2 dragons, click “change character”, wait 15 seconds for the dragons to be reborn.
We go under the same character. If after 15 seconds the dragons do not appear, wait in the menu for 20 seconds.
Again we kill 2 dragons. We repeat such actions again and again.
Via touchpad + Let's see how much we farmed. Sometimes kills don't count.

During this process, the main thing is to do something else at the same time.
So that the game would be in the background, kill dragons automatically.
Listen to music, sing, dance, watch a movie, talk on the phone, etc.

I recommend placing a clock with a second hand in front of your eyes to accurately monitor how much time has passed between the revival of the dragons.

While farming in Carrundax, keep an eye on the number of kills in the results table (touch, then ). In my party I was a DD and it turned out that I always got two kills per run, and the rest often got less. I killed the dragons too quickly and my partners did not have time to deal the amount of damage required for the score (according to my observations, ~10% is necessary), so be more careful and, if necessary, slow down.

At first we used the method of changing characters, but it works every time. Through death it comes out much faster, and it’s convenient to count from first aid kits.

I’ll add a hint: you can reduce the time even more and first aid kits won’t be needed. When you kill the first two little dragons, you need to select in the menu not to kill me, but to change the character and take the same character again. Then you will not appear at the fire in front of the boss’s entrance, but already inside and the two little dragons will be alive again, plus you don’t need to waste a first aid kit. Kill them again and change character again. Works 100%. Tested for myself.
Additionally, I can tell you that three of you need to go to Kurundax and in a closed session, so that no one else from the “left” gets thrown in. It is enough that your comrades just come with you, after which they can leave, you will be left alone and no one will interfere with farming dragons. if it so happens that you are playing alone and there are no friends who can help with this. Write in the chat what you will give as a reward for entering, for example some kind of stone. After entering, you give the “helpers” a reward and they go further and further; all you need is your patience and time.

how to do the achievement the fastest: in the above-mentioned dungeon we reach Karrundax (with the rest of the achievements completed, this is elementary solo, the main thing is to start the dungeon in three), kill 2 small dragons and die (can be done through the menu, where “I’m stuck” select “kill me” or just stand in a circle with fire). After resurrection, we appear near the fire at the entrance. Repeat the required number of times (maximum 1000/2=500). Don't forget to buy a bunch of first aid kits to treat fractures (if anything, there is a merchant at the very beginning of the dungeon, but it's a bit far to run to him). Rogoy with gear level 2200 did a solo in about 5 hours.

If you want to get this trophy quickly, there is a fairly effective way. Start "Carrundax's Cave" and reach the boss at the end of the level. There will be 2 small dragons next to the boss. Kill small dragons, after which the whole group dies, you can burn in fire or use the option in the menu -> I'm stuck -> Kill me. The last method is faster. After all the people in your group die, the battle will reboot and start from scratch. Repeat the process 500 times and the trophy is yours. Killing dragons will take about 2 minutes, so on average you can make 50 to 100 dragons per hour this way.

This method can be done Solo if you have an overall equipment rating of at least 17,000 points.

Problems can only arise due to injuries; if you do not have the required VIP level, then in order to maintain the normal effectiveness of the method you need to stock up on first aid kits; for 500 deaths at level 70 you will need first aid kits worth about 100 gold.
