How to unlock the Bump in the Night achievement in Neverwinter - Definitive Guide

EDIT: It's been over a year now and the game has recieved a lot of updates. I haven't played in a while, so I'm not sure if all locations are still relevant for kills. It has been reported that Vault of the nine works for the beholder. Thanks to Mince Pie 77 and The Globalizer for finding and confirming this.

This achievement is unlocked by killing a mimic, a beholder and a gelatinous cube. These monsters are very rare, and you'll only encounter them a few times on your way through the game. Here's how to find them:

Mimic - If you've played Dark Souls you'll know what they look like. They appear as normal chests, but they'll turn hostile as soon as you try to loot it. I encountered several of them on my way to 60, but a guaranteed place to get it is the Clockwork Guild Tomb. As long as you're thorough, you should be able to get this one no problem.

Gelatinous Cube - There's only one of these in the entire game, but thankfully it's unmissable. You'll encounter it during the Clockwork Guild Tomb, and you'll know what it looks like when you see it. He hits hard, so be careful.

Beholder - This is the one many are missing, probably because they just don't know where it is. I discovered that one of the bosses in the skirmish "Aberrant Assault" is a beholder. He's not even the final boss and he's a fairly easy fight with a full group. He's called "Eye Tyrant". The only restriction on this skirmish is that the minimum level to queue up for it is 57, and as far as I know this is the best and easiest place to kill a beholder.

Happy hunting!

+1 for the Beholder location. Also I think there were more Gelatinous Cubes in the game (remember from my PC times) but can't remember where. Probably in some high level dungeon. Though you'll most likely kill it in the Clockwork Guild Tomb

Thanks for the beholder location. I couldn't find any information anywhere and spent hours roaming the whispering caverns searching for one without any luck. +1

Theres also a boss (2nd i think) in Castle Never (9300 GS to enter) that looks very similar to the beholder you mentioned, I think this may also work for the achievement too but I cannot confirm, there is also tons of gelatinous cubes in Castle Never too. There's also a few mimics so the achievement can be gained easily from a single Castle Never run, although Castle Never runs aren't actually easy so..

What if your companion gets the final hit?
Does that still count as the kill?

As long as you deal damage to the boss, you should be all good.

I got credit for killing Charthraxis and I got there at the last second to send three attacks as a Devoted Cleric into him. So just hit the enemy and you get credit as skhter said.

Thanks for Beholder location. Got the achievement. Not sure why it's not loading, however.

Small correction in that you only have to be level 57 to queue for Aberrant Assault.

Thanks for the guide!

If you explore the orc barracks thoroughly on the Fists of the Warband quest, you can also find a mimic hiding in one of the back corners.

There's also 3-4 Mimics in Cragmire Crypts. By the end of the dungeon I was starting to think twice about every chest I tried to open.

For anyone who has killed all of the different monsters but not had the achievement unlock, try killing another mimic. Carrying on with quests I came up against and killed another mimic, which resulted in my achievement popping.

Worked great for the Beholder it's the eye boss I think he was the second one on the skirmish.

This can also be done with different characters. I killed the mimic and gelatinous cube with my 1st character and then with my second killed the beholder which popped the achievement straight away :)

Final boss of Vault of the Nine is also a beholder model, not sure if it counts for the achievement as I already had it, but if you're looking to be efficient, may be worth waiting for that quest rather than taking the time to do Aberrant Assault (since you get a nice artifact at the end of the Vault).

One of the random "dungeons" in the Respen's Marvelous Game event contains all three of these enemies guaranteeing you the achievement.

You can also fight two beholders during the Heroic Encounter 'Bickering Beholders' at your Guild Stronghold.

You can also unlock this during the "Portobello’s Campaign" event. One of the dungeons has a beholder at the end.

I got this for the final boss of the Vault of Nine quest that was a Beholder. I was running a devoted cleric.

Note to self...
Don't run "Aberrant Assault" solo at lvl 61........ =/

I BARELY got to the Eye Tyrant and just kept getting killed because it spawns enemies. I wasted many scrolls of life. I ain't gonna waste anymore.
Also this is on PS4. It is JUST as hard as you think on PS4... It is going to be the same on Xbox.

Found a beholder in the Convention Infilitration Quest from the Acquisitions Incorperated Campaign. I'm not sure if it cycles though since I found a Gelatinous Cube in the basement quest a few weeks back but it has since changed to some other mob spawn. Plus side is it was easily solo'd as my Wizard class but downside is you have to grind out previous quests to unlock it :(

Yeah, honestly these are all unlocked through normal play at this point, if you grind to 80 and play dungeons and progress towards BiS gear. They're everywhere. Beholders are the rarest of the three but I still seem to stumble into them regularly. Of course, if you're trying to *only* get this achievement, it's a little tricky, but welcome to Neverwinter, best to just level up your gear and boons and endgame it as much as possible, the rest comes with time.

There's a Mimic in the Many-Arrows Camp Orc Barracks. After you kill the first target - Lurg Bloodspear - you descend down stairs and continue the level. Behind the bottom of the stairs you'll see orcs behind a hanging drape. Go behind the drape and kill the orcs and at the end of this corridor is a Mimic chest. It's a level 16 quest too so it's a quick one to get out of the way.

Beholder is the rarest of them all. Accidently found one in Undermountain - Terminus(Lava Fields) map. There is room in Temple of Ladaguer (2078, -20). Flying eyehead monster is Beholder.

The Beholder is a large beast that lurks in the depths of the "Underdark." The Underdark is basically the underworld of Neverwinter, a vast labyrinth of underground tunnels and caves. A beholder enemy is probably easiest found in the 'Aberrant Assault' skirmish, which is available from levels 57 to 69. You can find one in the Kessel's Retreat skirmish (available at level 70), and within the Dwarven Valley zone in a heroic encounter.

The Gelatinous Cube can be located in the "Clockwork Tomb" quest within the "Neverdeath Graveyard," you will literally run into it. You can also find one in the 'Temple of the Spider' dungeon delve; it's a little off the beaten path though in a secret area. There are also a few scattered in Castle Never if you ever get that far. Don't confuse it with the mount version of the same name if you're searching for it in the Wiki. These 'Ooze' type enemies are also a staple for a lot of fantasy MMO's, sometimes known as 'gels'.

The Treasure Chest Mimic is not your friend; sitting there looking all innocent with the promise of epic loot only to bite your face off! One of these can also be found with the "Clockwork Tomb" along with the Cube, so to save time, kill them both in this zone. Mimic's are in multiple zones; one can also be found during the "Fists of the Warband" quest. Mimic's have been around since early Final Fantasy games and numerous games since including Dark Souls.

Here's a great tip for telling if a chest you're about to open will eat your face. If you look at the text prompt before you open it will say "Open the Chest" this means it's a Mimic and gnashing teeth will soon follow. If you see the text "Search the Chest" this is a normal chest with goodies inside!

I met the first Mimic in the tower area when the Orcs needed to destroy the Base there under the stairs in the corner if you rummage around in all the corners there is a MIMIK chest

Mimic is an evil biting chest disguised as an ordinary treasure chest, it is found very often, gelatinous cube is a large gelatinous cube, you will not confuse it with anything, whiteholder is a huge flying toothy head with appendages, similar to the head of a gargon jellyfish, the last one you will meet already when you are level 50-60. There is no need to kill them personally; participation in their extermination is enough.

Mimic is quite easy to meet, just loot all the chests you see and he will find you.
The cube can be found in the final quest at the Neverdet Cemetery location. According to the quest, you will be sent to the watchmakers' castle, there you will see him in one of the corridors, it is impossible to miss.
I first met the beholder in the “Attack of the Lost” battle, where he is the boss, you can’t miss him. Also, paladins (not sure about other classes) can meet him in a quest for an artifact (level 60).
