How to unlock the Dragon's Bane achievement in Neverwinter - Definitive Guide
First and foremost, this achievement is going to take a long while. It's not short. Luckily, it's also not as long as you fear, either. All told, it should take 15-20 hours of boosting to secure this achievement depending on the quality of your gear. You kill 50-100 dragons per hour.
Here's how it works:
1. Get a group of 5 people. Making a session is ideal. You want a Cleric in the group (if less than 10k gearscore), but a Guardian is totally worthless.
2. Go to normal Caverns of Karrundax. Level 60's can queue for this, but be careful. If someone leaves for any reason, you can't reinvite them - a random player will join instead. He probably doesn't want to grind dragons.
3. Fight all the way to the end. This takes about 15-20 minutes.
4. Now we're at the good part. You want to start the fight with Karrundax and kill the two Dragonlings. Once they're dead, you need to die. All players should stand in fire and kill themselves ASAP. The fight resets.
5. Rinse and repeat 500 times.
Solo?
Yup, this is possible even with mediocre gear at 70.
The Details
Once you get to the fight, killing the Dragonlings should take anywhere between 1-2 minutes. It starts to take longer as you'll get more and more injuries. You can mitigate this a little bit by buying Divine Wound Kits (earned during some weekend events) off the Auction House. Clerics shouldn't bother with these. The injuries have the following effects:
Legs: The dragons melt the steel off your boots; trudging through molten steel makes you slow.
Torso: You lose a substantial amount of HP. Your healer will no longer be bored.
Arms: Remember those sick crits you got at level 30? Well now you get to see those numbers again instead of the level 60 ones.
Head: Your ability cooldowns now last ten minutes instead of ten seconds. That's sarcasm.
You can buy wound kits to deal with this, but it will take 100 gold to buy enough to clear every injury you'll ever get. Most likely, you're too poor and you're stuck fighting with foam swords.
In the end, this method isn't that bad. My initial solution said to commit suicide using the "I Am Stuck" function to kill yourself. Rumor says the devs get a ping every time you do this so they can investigate. Do not do this. Another solution says the developers will not care. Maybe not, but none of us know anything at all. I don't recommend it and you do it at your own risk. Once you learn how to die, it's only marginally faster and you'll still need the same number of sessions. My group had everyone try to die and if they didn't die to the fireballs, then you use "I Am Stuck" to kill yourself to limit the time wasted.
So if you want to take the risk like I did, once you kill the dragons you press and scroll all the way to the right. Select "I Am Stuck". This will give you the option to kill yourself instantly and respawn at the nearest fire.
Good luck!
With the Maze Engine update this solution is not valid anymore. The skirmish is can't be accessed anymore.
The Pirate's sky hold skirmish has a dragon to beat at the end.
With a lvl.70 you can solo this skirmish quite easily. I'm a healer and have no troubles. Takes about 5-10min. Just head to pirate's sky hold and talk to the guy with the skirmish icon above his head.
If you're lvl. 40-47 you can queue this skirmish.
Between the waiting times in the well of dragon, you can visit pirate's sky hold and kill this additional dragon. It even gets you some astral diamonds
-Just use the chat box "Looking for Group" in-game, or Neverwinter forums, find a friend.
-This is the fastest way yo can do it, I tested it and kept track.
-3 people do a private queue , 1 leaves or is kicked, you and your friend, stacked with 100's of Potions and Injury Kits, and Stat buff potions.
THE EASY PART
-Enter Karrandax Lair, kill the first 2 dragons and "Defeat self"
-Both of you will respawn outside of the Lair, re-enter and repeat.
-Do not kill Karrandex or anyother enemies it bugs the Grind and Dragons sometimes stop spawning.
-Only kill the first 2 Dragons**"Red Dragons".
-Equip High Armor Penatration gear, A must for speedy grinding.
-You can break it up into 3 days and and only do 2 -3 hours of grinding this.
-On days where your friends can't show up to help you grind, go to Neverdeath graveyard and kill Charandex Dragon he counts to, use the Map Change option and ask "Char up anywhere?" you'l get help from other players calling for Dragon slaying help themselves.
I just got this trophy a few days ago.
THE BORING PART
Time to complete grind: 10 Hours, just have fun and chat with mic's to kill the time....listen to music whatever...it will get a bit boring
- As of December 2020 this method still works.
- The dungeon is called “Caverns of Karrundax” and can be easily soloed with a DPS character via private queue.
- There is currently only 1 Wyrmling (small dragon) throughout the dungeon, you will want to head to the very end of the fence on and engage in the boss fight. As soon as you go in, 2 Wyrmlings will be present. Take them out and simply use the “I Am Stuck” then “Defeat Me” from the options and recycle.
- My Rogue could average 100 kills per hour but I had already killed roughly 500 dragons as part of playing normally.
Everyone knows what a dragon looks like… it’s just a matter of finding and killing them. Dragons are found in 'Heroic Encounters' and 'Dungeon Delves' mostly. All dragon encounters are level 30'ish to start and increase in difficulty up to level 60. Heroic Encounters are basically an open world event; meaning you can take a group to the area the dragon spawns in and take it down. Even random players in the area can assist with killing the dragon; there is no Queue for HE's. If you want, you can just wait around for people to show up and assist in killing it. Upon death the dragon will re-spawn in 20 minutes. Kill 50 to start and the achievement is yours... only 950 left!
Instance dragon farming: Hopefully you breezed over the roadmap and saw the bit about 'Instances.' This is key to getting a lot of dragon kills in short order. In the main menu under the 'Quest' tab, you should see a title called 'Change Instance'. This allows you to jump to other 'instances' in the same zone. The game is one server, but the players are broken up into these 'instances' so as to not overpopulate the zone. In Heroic Encounter dragon zones, you'll see the chat window light up with people calling out times on dragons with a number; the number is the instance they are in. All instances are on slightly different timers when it comes to dragon spawns, so you can bounce from one to the next killing a dragon in each instance. This is how people are grinding out mass amounts of dragon kills in a short time.
Heroic Encounter Dragons:
Charthraxis: Found in Neverdeath Graveyard.
Vartilingorix: Found in Ebon Downs.
Merothrax: Found in Icespire Peak.
Venfithar: Found in Rothé Valley.
Vilithrax: Found in Whispering Caverns.
Well of Dragons Heroic Encounters: (spawn at 45 past the hour and you have 10 minutes to kill all five).
Rogrotus (black dragon)
Kradazuur (blue dragon)
Volzakaris (green dragon)
Hohengroth (red dragon)
Glycamerax (white dragon)
Tiamat: Found in the Temple of Tiamat raid
Dungeon Delve Dragons: Epic Difficulties.
Lostmauth: Lair of Lostmauth (Tyranny of Dragons campaign).
Dragon Farming Strategy: Please see the third post of the Roadmap!
This method can be done Solo if you have an overall equipment rating of at least 17,000 points.
Problems can only arise due to injuries; if you do not have the required VIP level, then in order to maintain the normal effectiveness of the method you need to stock up on first aid kits; for 500 deaths at level 70 you will need first aid kits worth about 100 gold.
